The Only One Episodes 1-2 Recaps

Sheng Wang left Dushai for Shanghai when he was very little. After his mother’s death, he and his father returned to Dushai  where he continued his studies. On his first day, he is introduced to his new classmates by his principal Mr Xu. His classmates are surprised he transferred at the middle of the semester. He is supposed to sit with Jiang Tiang, the most popular and brightest student in the entire school. However, Tian is very cold towards him, refusing to share a seat with him. This leaves Sheng feeling disheartened as he thinks he really doesn’t get along well with people who have the surname Jiang.

That’s because his father is currently married to a woman with the surname Jiang who used to be his high school classmate. It turns out Jiang Tiang is her son and as soon as the two meet, they are like cats and dogs. Unfortunately, Sheng Wang can’t dwell too long on the present circumstances as his new school is holding a test the next day. He gets materials from his college friend and begins studying.

But it doesn’t help as he’s going to fail due to not keeping up with school work. He meets with the class director, a young man who offers to guide him, assuring him that the current score won’t matter but he has to make considerable progress each week.

It’s a lot to handle such that Sheng Wang feels like quitting school. But to everyone’s surprise, although he didn’t pass, he did considerably higher in certain subjects than many students who have studied the materials for a long time. He achieved this in just two days. As a result, he earns the respect and admiration of his classmates.

He is playing with his pen when it mistakenly hits Jiang Tiang who confiscates his pen and proceeds to lecture him on how he wouldn’t be able to complete studying. When Sheng returns home, he is cold to his father and Aunt Jiang who are now living with them. He doesn’t even eat the food she kept for him and instead, grabs a snack and drink to eat. He goes to Tian’s empty room and as he looks out the balcony, he suddenly sees Tian outside the gate hesitating to go inside the house. Just as Tian is about to turn away, Jiang suddenly calls out to him. The two stare at each other until Mr Wang and Aunt Jiang comes out to bring Tian in. Sheng hurries out of the room as the couple show Tian to his room.

The epilogue shows Tian secretly smiling when Sheng, who was on his way to school trips and falls, then walks past him as if nothing happened.

In the next episode, Tian is being scolded by his Chinese teacher for not doing well in Chinese. As he leaves her office, he sees Sheng being close to his new friend Tianyang who is taking him somewhere. For some reason, Tian can’t forget the moment when he and Sheng looked at each other at the house.

That night, Sheng is unable to solve a difficult math question homework and talks to his college friend Crab about it. He also laments about Tian and how he refuses to call him big brother. Crab suggests he should use it as a challenge to Tian. If he solves the question, he will have to call him big brother

So Sheng walks back and forth Tian’s door but can’t seem to pluck up the courage to ask for his help. He is surprised when Tian suddenly appears in front of his door naked except for shorts and a towel hanging around his neck. He asks him what he wants. He had heard him from his room but Sheng lies that he only wanted his pen back and Tian gives it to him before leaving.

The next morning, Sheng sees Tian eating breakfast his mother made. She serves him as well and asks that they get close but Tian leaves without Sheng. Tian’s father suddenly sends money and he tells his mother that he would transfer it to her.

At school, Tian notices that Sheng is still bothered by the question. He had seen the paper with him last night so Tian solves it for him and gives him the answer. Sheng is happy but underneath the note, Tian writes that he should mind his business referring to the time he called him back that night. Sheng retorts that if he hadn’t, he would have had nowhere to go that night. Tian gets angry at first but realising Sheng is right, he cools down. Tian smirks when he sees Sheng secretly write the answers he gave as several students sorround him.

In the next lesson, the Chinese teacher known as fortune cat praises Sheng for doing well in poetry. His only problem is his bad writing. His friend Gao Tianyang teases him for that and Tian notices their dynamic but doesn’t look pleased. Tian is scolded for his unemotional writing and when asked a question, he purposely gets it wrong even when Sheng secretly shows him the answer.

Gao Tianyang gets punished for talking too much so he isn’t able to hurry to the cafeteria like the others. There, he and his female friends talk about Sheng. He suspects one of his friends of liking him because she doesn’t care about Qi jiahao, the other transfer student.

At class, the class director scolds Sheng, Tian and Qi Jiahao for using the same formula during their homework. He makes them rewrite it on the board. Qi jiahao can’t remember but Sheng does and everyone is amazed since he copied it from Tian but still managed to remember it.

Sheng follows Tian to a restaurant since the cafeteria would be filled up. But Tian doesn’t stay and goes elsewhere. Sheng is picky about the food but still ends up eating after the owner urges him. But he forgets his wallet. Thankfully, Tian returns and pays for him

As they are leaving, Sheng mistakenly runs into Tian’s back. He turns around and tells him he doesn’t trust him. As they return to the classroom, Sheng finds the boys waiting outside. He is confused and opens the door only to be thrown objects by the girls. He dodges on time but Tian ends up getting hit much to his annoyance. Tianyang explains that during pe, the boys all leave the classroom for the girls to change since there is no locker room.

During the pe, the students take a break and they hold a game of truth and dare. When it comes to Sheng’s turn, he chooses dare. So Tianyang dares him to kiss the first person that approaches them for ten seconds. If he refuses, his punishment would be to bark and piss like a dog. Tian turns out to be the person walking towards them. To everyone’s shock as well as Tian’s, Sheng kisses him.

Upon getting home, Tian refuses to speak with Sheng and slams the door on his face. Sheng is very restless until night. He barges into Tian’s room where he finds him reading and apologizes but Tian gets angry when Sheng tells him the kiss wasn’t a big deal so he pins him to the wall and kisses him.
