The Midnight Romance In Hagwon Episode 4 Recap

Cheong mi asks Hye Jin to meet her for dinner that night not caring if Hye Jin and Jun ho have plans. Jun ho decides to spend time with his friends while Cheong mi and Hye Jin discuss at the latter’s friends restaurant.

Cheong mi expresses her dissapointment at being left out by Hye Jin and Jun woo. Hye Jin apologises for it but gets completely stunned when Cheong mi reveals her real purpose for the dinner. She wants to teach a special class for Chanyoung high school. She explains how she was betrayed by her previous academy and didn’t want to cause any tension but now has changed her mind. She also reveals how she tutored the best high ranking student at Mr Pyo’s previous school for three years before he transferred to Chanyoung. It’s clearly obvious she wants to he Hye Ji’s rival.

Jun ho is still with his friends when Hye Jin calls to tell him she was back at the academy. He rushes off to the academy and reluctantly, she tells him about Cheong mi’s decision and he is quite angry about it, opting to speak to her privately but Hye Jin stops him. They eventually begin their practice lecture and their difference in opinion becomes obvious. Hye Jin is very critical of almost everything Jun ho does, leaving him feeling quite frustrated.

As she drops him off later that day, Jun ho pours out his dissapointment over how her teaching method is different from before. When he was her student, she used to make him enjoy learning but now she only thinks of nothing but results. Hye Jin justifies her actions, replying that everyone is on their neck and so they have to ensure their plans work out or the consequences would be dire. All he has to do is follow her orders.

They part ways once they reach his apartment. For the coming days, preparations for the free lecture begins. However, on the appointed day, no student shows up except for Lee Si woo, a Haenam high school student who was secretly sent by Director Choi’s assistant to spy on Hye Jin and Jun ho’s lecture.

The reason for the absence was that director Choi realised Hye Jin wasn’t changing her lecture date and started her lecture at the same time. This situation causes a big dissapointment not only to Hye Jin and Jun ho but the entire academy especially Boss.

Hye Jin feels like cancelling the lecture but Jun ho convinces her to be strong and teach that one student as if their lives depend on it. Hye Jin gets encouraged and decides to do that reminding Jun ho that one on one teaching is actually her specialty.

As Hye Jin teaches Si woo in her less than conventional method, Jun ho is reminded of what a wonderful tutor she was to him in the past and how they had gotten so close that he gradually fell in love with her. He is happy that the person she used to be is still there. Jun ho teaches the second half and through out, Si woo seems to enjoy it. Cheong mi secretly watches their lecture unable to hide how impressed she is.

After the lecture ends, Hye jin and Jun ho bids Si woo farewell. They return to their office but everyone has already left. However Hye Jin recieves several heartfelt messages from her colleagues. To her surprise, Cheong mi is still around and she gives her snacks to encourage her but purposely doesn’t give Jun ho any. (Haha…why?)

After Hye jin tells her friend what happened, she invites her to her restaurant. Along with Jun ho and Cheong mi, they all go there. Everyone knows Director Choi was behind it but Hye Jin doesn’t blame her as she was only trying to keep her students.

Meanwhile, after arriving at his tiny apartment, Si woo enters a group chat with other students who complain about how boring director Choi’s lecture was. The others know Si woo was attending Hye Jin’s free lecture and ask how it was. With a smile on his face, Si woo replies that it was so good, he’s thinking of leaving Choisun academy and this causes an uproar in the group chat because for him, one of Haenam smartest student to betray Choisun, then the lecture must have been really good. Si woo simply smiles at this and the episode ends.
