The Midnight Romance In Hagwon Episode 2 Recap

Hye Jin is uncomfortable knowing that there’s a possibility Lee Jun ho might become a tutor at her academy. She can’t imagine herself talking formally to him so the next day, she gets his resume from the secretary and shows it to one of the coordinators for the instructor test Mr Yoon, pleading with him to reject Lee Jun ho during the interview. The man is suspicious over why she would go against her own ethics but she replies that he’s arrogant and that she’s doing it for his own good. However, the coordinator believes he would not be able to pass because of how intimidating the interview can be. Just as they are discussing, Lee Jun ho suddenly texts Hye Jin, letting her know he passed the written test

Meanwhile, Lee Jun ho practices for the written test after his college friend shows him an empty classroom. Afterwards, he resigns from his company then spends a lot of time practicing.

The instructor tests eventually take place. Hye Jin is so fidgety that her colleagues notice her. Lee Jun ho even spots her trying to look for him through the crowds of participants. He thanks her for her support but she pretends she didn’t come to see him. Lee Jun ho enters the waiting room and strikes up a conversation with Nam Chung mi, a friendly lady who had offered to drink with him after the written test. They exchange ideas and wish each other luck.

Hye Jin is part of the judges but she appears lackluster as every participant steps up to present. But when it’s Lee Jun ho’s turn, he immediately catches her interest with his charming and interesting behavior. He even makes use of her teaching technique which she had taught him when she was his tutor and indirectly praises her for being a great teacher.

As the judges gather together to decide whom to pick, each of them is impressed with Jun ho except for Hye Jin and Mr Yoon who says he has no experience. Hye Jin presses on that she has no time to teach him about what they do and tries to dissuade everyone from choosing him. However, her boss isn’t satisfied with her answer and tells her he would give her time to think.

Meanwhile, Jun ho goes home to tell his parents that he had quit his job to become a teacher at a private academy. He tries to convince them, by explaining he would earn more money and even become famous in about three years time but his parents are far from supportive. His father seethes with rage. His mother who hasn’t been feeling well lately, throws up and refuses to let him help her.

That night, Hye Jin watches Jun ho’s interview video. She then texts him so they could meet him at a park, one where they frequented in the past. When they meet, Hye Jin inadvertently tries to pressure him to drop out, telling him he wouldn’t be able to work at Daechi Chase and that she lied about enjoying her job and saying his college entrance day was the best moment of her life. However, Jun ho is pissed that she’s taking things personally instead of evaluating his skills. He mentions that she’s crossing the line and that her boss and colleagues would be appalled by what she was doing.

Hye Jin, embarrassed decides to leave but Jun ho follows her to her car, requesting to drop her off but she refuses, telling him to take the bus. She drives off but in reality, she’s so ashamed.

Mr Pyo causes a commotion by arranging extra curricular classes for the students, to stop them from going to the academies. Hye Jin hears of this and talks the matter out with her boss. They both know that his plot wouldn’t work in the longer term because the poor students would still need to be taught.

Meanwhile, Jun ho eats meat with his father at a restaurant. His father tries to convince him to return to the corporate world but when he insists on his path, even wanting to move out, he walks out of the restaurant in disappointment.

That night, Hye Jin speaks with her boss and after they reminisce about their humble beginnings, her boss asks her why she’s treating Lee Jun ho like she’s his teacher. That question alone makes Hye Jin restless. Sfe thinks things over and eventually agrees to hire Jun ho which makes her boss excited. She then invites Jun ho to her married friends restaurant.

She apologizes for her behavior then goes ahead to tell him how tough the job would be. Due to this, Jun ho realizes he got the job, watching amusedly as Hye Jin continues to list out the difficulties he would face. He would have no time, his fellow teachers would be a competition and he would have to work extremely hard. His students would blame him if they fail. She even goes as far as to mention how qualified the other lady they hired is. Surprisingly, Jun ho doesn’t take offense and when she’s done, she asks him to leave which he does.

The next day, Jun ho and Nam chung mi resume work. Hye Jin is business-like and straightforward as she tells them their duties. No sooner had they settled down than the boss calls for Jun ho. He meets him at the office and the boss congratulates him for being a hall of fame who ended up being a teacher. He offers Jun ho a deal, to become the new face of the academy due to his back story. He would be replacing Hye Jin. At first, Jun ho readily accepts but he gives the boss a better idea, to promote him and Hye Jin together as a teacher who made a success out of a vagabond student. The episode ends.
