The Impossible Heir Episode 12 Final Recap

The episode starts with a flashback

At the funeral home, Hye won gives Tae Oh his mother’s letter while encouraging him not to lose hope and to persevere. Tae Oh reads the letter and in there, his mother apologizes for being lacking and pleads with him to forget the past and bury all grudges and revenge. She adds that she loves him and will give him a big hug when next they meet, to which Tae oh bursts into tears.

Feeling somewhat rejuvenated, Tae Oh drives to his mother’s village, the place where he first met In ah and reminisces about their turbulent relationship in his old house. How they started from being partners to In ah slowly turning against him.

As for In ah, he now occupies the chairman’s office as he remembers how far he had come to get to where he is now while at the same time looking forward to being named the official chairman of Kangoh the next day. (Cold hearted son of a…)

Tae oh returns to his apartment in Seoul and places his mother’s picture and her tape recorder side by side. Then proceeds to get rid of all the investigations he had done. That night, he visits Chairman Kang who is still unconscious and promises to protect his company. A tear escapes from the chairman’s eyes.

The next day, Seonju visits his mother in prison. She’s desperate to leave and orders him not to give up on the company but Seonju breaks down pleading with her to give up. With tears in his eyes, he admits that because of her, he never got to do what he wanted and was never happy. He cries that they should finally stop being greedy and let things go. Realizing her errors, Mrs Kang cries with regret as Seonju holds her hand.

Everyone has attended the press conference. The hall is divided. Those with In ha on one side, those against him on the other. Congress man Jo, professor Chae, Inju’s wife and Huiju’s would have been fiance are on one side in support of In ha and glare sarcastically at Huiju and Seonju who are sitting on the other side.

Meanwhile, Park sajin is late to arrive. He’s actually talking to his daughter, the doctor from the prison who revealed that she was molested by Kang Inju. Park sajin expresses his regret in not looking after her properly and decides to do what’s right by ensuring that he doesn’t support a Kang in claiming the company.

Then we are finally at the part where In ha gets arrested in the elevator. He glares at Tae Oh resentfully as the elevator closes. His supporters are in a state of disarray after hearing he was arrested. The conference comes to a halt.

Park sajin then meets with Tae Oh to negotiate with him. He promises to give him Kangoh energy and Park sajin is impressed with his audacity thinking that he reminds him of a younger Chairman Kang.

While Wan, leader and his men intercept the police officer who had stabbed Mo gujin in prison and carry him away.

Meanwhile, In ah who is in the interrogation room mocks the prosecutor for not having any evidence or witnesses to detain him but gets the shock of his life when Mo gujin appears. Turns out that after he was stabbed, Mo gujin was saved by the Doctor who immediately called Tae Oh and informed him that his prediction about Mo gujin getting attacked by In ah was right. Tae Oh then visits Mo gujin in the hospital prison and convinces him to turn away from In ah telling him that In ha doesn’t have friends. He only sees people as dogs to be easily discarded. He promises to help him as long as he tells the truth.

Now Mo gujin confronts In ah by grabbing his collar as he yells at him for treating him as a dog instead of a friend but In ah without any remorse tells him that as a dog he is, he should have remained loyal. Mo gujin is so angry, he nearly punches him but he’s stopped by the police men. The prosecutor then plays the recording where In ah was talking to Mo gujin after he had stabbed Inju and his mistress. (The recording Tae Oh had hidden from the prosecutor to protect In ah)

In ah laughs maniacally knowing that this was Tae Oh’s handiwork and that he had finally given up on him.

The prosecutors clear out In ah’s office. Chairman Kang falls into cardiac arrest and the doctors fight to save his life. In ah is imprisoned and given a letter stripping him off his right to bear the last name Kang. He completely looses it and breaks down. (That’s one thing that can break the idiot down)

Huiju calls Tae oh to the family house. When he arrives, he’s surprised to see Chairman Kang alive but in a wheel chair. Chairman Kang tells Tae Oh he asked Huiju to call him.

Tae Oh and Hye Won attend In ah’s trial. He is asked to give one last speech to the court. In ah stands up and looking towards Hye Won and Tae Oh, he says that they were once looking in the same direction but when they had finally arrived to where they wanted, they started going different paths. He ends his speech by saying it’s unfortunate. When asked if he has anything else to say, he says he doesn’t. Everyone is surprised that he doesn’t give a proper apology. In ah is sentenced to life in prison.

Tae Oh then comes to visit In ah in prison. He asks how he has been but In ah replies he should know since he has also been here. Tae Oh tells him he won’t forgive him. In ah replies that he doesn’t plan to ask for his forgiveness knowing it won’t change anything. He then asks In ah why he did all those things he did to him. In ah replies that he doesn’t know and can’t remember when things started going wrong.

He then adds it could just be because he’s Han Tae Oh (guy! Admit you were just jealous of him and wanted to surpass his greatness) Tae Oh admits he liked when he was his friend. In ah replies he’s glad to hear that. Tae Oh gives him their graduation picture as a parting gift. As he’s leaving, In ah calls him back but stops himself from saying what he wanted to tell him. Tae Oh leaves, this time for good. In ah gets emotional as he looks at the picture Tae Oh left behind.

Huiju parks her things ready to travel the world. Seonju is clingy refusing to let her go but she promises to be back one day and that he should take care of their father and mother. Seonju offers to carry some of her things (Their sibling bond has recovered because of the situation)

Tae Oh and Hye won meet up for dinner. The two of them catch up with one another. Tae Oh asks if she has visited In ha but Hye won replies that she wants to focus on herself now. (Really? What have you been doing all these years?) However, without words, they know within themselves that they can never be together romantically as the lights above them dim indicating that It’s over for real.

In ha hangs himself while he’s alone in his prison cell. Tears stream down his eyes as he dies, their graduation picture by his side.

Three years later, Tae Oh is now Kangoh’s CEO after Chairman Kang gave him control, making him the first Ceo to be appointed who isn’t from the Kang family. He has Seonju and Park sajin’s support and has completed Royal road project which was Chairman Kang’s lifelong dream.

Hye won has finally reached the top by becoming the president’s aide.

We then see Tae Oh visiting In ah’s urn in the memorial hall looking forlorn as he places a flower in his space.

As he leaves the hall and drives off, he gets a text from Huiju telling him she’s in Mexico at the moment. Then he gets a call from Wan asking him for a leave from work. Tae Oh agrees and immediately, we see Wan having a wonderful time in the pool with Leader and his men. The series ends with Tae Oh and Hye won watching the fireworks from their separate places. Tae Oh watches it from the chairman’s office reminiscing how far he has come from being the impossible heir to where he’s at now.
