The first scene opens up with a young man whose suit is stained with blood. He is holding a screwdriver and is in a panicked state as he stares at dead bodies in the room.
We are taken years back.
In a train, the same young man Tae Oh is listening to music on an old Tape recorfer. Next, we see him get down from a bus in a rural area. He starts walking through the streets and arrives to check out an old building. The agent showing him the house remarks that he’s too young to live alone but the young man replies that his parents have passed away. The agent asks him why he’s here. Tae Oh replies that this is his mother’s hometown. The agent then asks for his mother’s name but Tae Oh man deflates his question by agreeing to take the house. The agent is glad and says he will bring the house contract but the Tae Oh decides to come over to his place instead.
The sound of gunshot is heard in the distance. The agent grumbles that a group of people are shooting in the day. The agent and Tae Oh then stroll through the streets with the agent explaining that their town is a peaceful one. Just then, an expensive looking car drives by. The two look inside and notice a pale faced handsome young man. The agent says the boy is In ha, the illegitimate third son of Kangah group. He is useless to his family, that’s why they confined him to this isolated place. But then he realises he spoke too much and pleads with Tae Oh to forget what he just said.
At night, In ha watches his brother from a window throwing an extravagant party where he indulges himself in wine and women. A well prepared meal is left untouched on the table as he looks on dissapointed, unaware that someone else is also watching him. It’s Tae Oh. They are both perplexed at the extravagant celebration as fireworks even explode into the night sky.
The next scene, Tae Oh goes to seek a job in a convenience store but the owner rejects him based on the fact that he’s only in highschool. He recommends a restaurant nearby who is looking for workers. Tae Oh then notices In ha stuffing items into his clothes. The owner sees him but doesn’t do anything about it. Tae Oh but when he does, In ha glares after him.
Tae Oh goes to the restaurant and is given the job on the account that he shouldn’t be late. He comes out of the restaurant. Coincidentally, In ha stops to eat apples from the opposite side of the road and when he catches Tae Oh staring at him, he asks what he is looking at but Tae Oh ignores him and walks off.
Tae Oh is coming out of a rack shop when he sees In ha apparently waiting for him. In ha asks him why he didn’t do anything when he saw him shop lifting. He says that there’s a rule about people pretending not to see him when he does certain things. However, Tae oh replies sarcastically that the people aren’t ignoring him. He’s just invincible to them. This angers In ha and he demands an apology trying to intimidate Tae oh but he isn’t intimidated and tells him that if he wants his attention, then he should steal something bigger not worthless trash. He then leaves much to In ha’s son’s chagrin.
Next, we see In ha boxing with his trainer, visualizing Tae Oh’s expression as he replays his last words to him. This makes him even more angry.
In a rowdy all boys class room, a teacher comes inside followed by Tae oh. Coincidentally, he’s also in the same class as In ha who glares as soon as he sees him. Tae ho simply introduces his name causing some boys to laugh at him for only mentioning his name during the introduction.
Tae oh goes to sit at the back of the class while the teacher praises him as a top student who scored among the top 0.1% during the mock test. The boys are in awe.
At the cafeteria, Tae Oh is about to settle down and eat when In ha and his friends push aside his food tray and sit in his space but Tae Oh ignores him and tries to sit on the chair behind him but In ha rests his leg on the chair to annoy him. Tae Oh asks what his problem is and In ha replies that he just doesn’t like him. As he walks away from him, In ha then grabs his friend’s tray and throws it at Tae Oh’s back. Then he smirks when he doesn’t do anything but to everyone’s surprise, Tae Oh walks over to him and dumps his food on top of his own, causing an instant uproar. As In ha stands up, Tae Oh kicks him down and punches him. Soon, a huge fight between them erupts. However, In ha overpowers him and as he’s about to land another blow, their teacher enters.
The two find themselves in an empty room writing a letter of apology. In ha taunts Tae Oh that now he can no longer call him invisible. In ha’s friend comes and tells hin that the teacher gave him permission to leave. In ha taunts him again because he is leaving before him and then he departs with his friend.
Outside, In ha learns from his friend that Tae oh was released soon after him. He is embarrassed because he had boasted in front of Tae oh thinking he would stay over. His mood becomes worse. His friend was going to follow him on his bike to a movie but In ha tells him irritably to get off before driving away.
Meanwhile, Tae Oh watches In ha drive away. The teacher enters surprised to see that he is still in school. He asks him if you didn’t get the message to leave.
Next, we see Tae Oh leaving school when he gets a call. The call happens to be bad news and all of a sudden, Tae Oh is running out of school. He boards a cab urging the driver to speed.
Meanwhile, In ha drives to a luxurious resort and watches his brother from a distance showing off his shooting skills to the delight of women. Irritated, In ha drives off.
Tae oh drives to a Buddhist temple and meets a bald headed woman who he calls his mom. He begs her tearfully to run away. Next, we see her leaving in a bus, Tae Oh watching over her with tears in his eyes.
Flashback to the phone call Tae Oh had recieved. It was from a man in prison who tells him his mother is alive. He says he should warn his mother not to let her guard down, that even though he is locked up, his men are still searching for her. The man is Tae Oh’s father as he tells him in a sly manner that he wants to see him since he misses him.
Just as Tae Oh leaves the bus station, a group of thugs run inside searching through the buses, no doubt they are his father’s men who are searching for his mother.
Tae Oh is staring at the front door of a boxing school. As he turns to leave, he sees In ha who is getting out from his bike. In ha taunts him for trying to learn boxing in other to beat him up. Tae Oh simply asks if the school teaches how to kill someone. In ha thinks he’s crazy. Tae shrugs and starts to leave. Surprisingly, In ha offers to teach him boxing only if he can beat him. The two get on that ring and In ha pummels Tae Oh. After getting punched several times, Tae Oh sinks to the ground but memories of Tae Oh’s abusive father fills his mind. All of a sudden, he lurches at In ha and begins to punch him ruthlessly much to In ha’s surprise but In ha manages to get to him bringing him back to his senses. In ha asks taken aback if he’s the one Tae Oh wants to kill.
He then asks Tae Oh if he wants to eat burgers. Tae Oh wants to fight again but In ha stops him. He then drives him home. As they are seperating, In ha is about to ask if they can be friends but Tae Oh shuts him down, saying he doesn’t want to be friends with him. In ha is embarrassed and says he only wanted Tae oh to refund him for the burger. Tae oh leaves and In ha calls him rude and annoying as he drives away.
Tae oh looks back and with a thoughtful look mutters the word friend.
At school, In ha’s friend tells him the rumor about Tae Oh, that his father killed his mother. He’s a murderer’s son. Just then, Tae oh enters the class and In ha gets angry with his friend and asks if he also talks about how he is an illegitimate son behind his back. He tells him how he must look down on him too and calls him a nobody much to his friend’s annoyance. In ha suddenly asks Tae oh to leave class with him but Tae Oh refuses.
Tae is listening to music on that old tape recorder when In ha comes to join him. He takes the other ear piece and listens to the song asking what the song is. Tae replies that it’s his mom’s favorite song. He reveals that his father is not his biological father, that he’s already sentenced to death in prison. He asks In ha if he’s afraid. In ha replies that Tae oh isn’t a killer plus he had never met his father before so there’s nothing to be afraid of. All of a sudden, Tae suggests they should be friends but In ha’s pride is wounded since he rejected him before. Then Tae Oh rephrases, suggesting that they should be partners instead. He wants to use In ha to climb into the major leagues, in return, he would do anything for him. In ha laughs and asks him what power he has to suggest such a thing but Tae Oh replies that it’s desperation. Tae Oh says he will give In ha his smarts and help him get into Hanguk the best university in tur country, all he has to do if tell him what they would do together. In ha smiles at this.
It’s the year 2013
Tae Oh seems to be in a hurry as he gets down from the train. We then see him teaching some students and working part time in a factory. As he gets home, he locks eyes with a young woman in the opposite building. They stare at each other with mixed reactions on their faces before going their separate ways. Tae Oh enters his apartment but is greeted with a surprise birthday cake from In ha. Tae Oh grumbles that he has told In ha not to celebrate him this year but he always does. In ha grumbles then Tae oh hands him some reports on a hard drive. In ha teases him by kissing the hard drive and saying that’s why he loves Tae Oh. He then gives Tae Oh a message that he recommended him as a tutor to a wealthy person, his half sister. In ha then asks what Tae oh is doing later. Tae answers that it’s study and work, then warns him to ensure he reads the reports. In ha, frustrated wants Tae Oh to live a little but Tae oh doesn’t care. Then In ha makes him eat more food.
At university, Tae Oh’s class mate informs him that a professor Choi Dongwuk is looking for him. Professor Choi Dongwuk praises him for his report which was coincidentally the report Kangah economic research needed. Tae Oh had discussed this with In ha previously. The report contains a method to enrich the company, one where they would pretend to invest in start -up companies when in reality, they will be merging and acquiring them.
Now, Professor Choi wants to buy the report from Tae oh. However, Tae oh refuses for the sake of future purposes. But, professor Choi secretly tells an important person about the report which would no doubt shape the future of Kangah. The man is the son of Kangah group (In ha’s half brother)
At a library, Tae Oh is researching about the Kangah succession between the two legitimate sons. Just then, he sees the woman from before but ignores her. He is about to get drinks but the girl approaches him and buys a drink for herself. She asks him why he often ignores her when they are both neighbors and are in the same department. She hopes he wouldn’t ignore her again. She starts to leave and Tae Oh calls her back to get her coffee but she tells him that she doesn’t drink Coffee and that her name is Na hye won.
Tae keeps staring even as she leaves. Suddenly, In ha appears, crying to eat with him. The two of them eat at the cafeteria. In ha then tells him to look presentable when he’s going for his tutoring job at Busanjae. As they are talking, Na hye won enters the cafeteria and Tae Oh can’t stop staring at her. In ha notices and asks Tae oh if he’s interested in her. He teases him and says he might hit on her if Tae Oh doesn’t. Tae brushes it off and when he leaves, In ha stares deeply at Na hye won noting that she looks adorable.
Tae Oh arrives at a huge mansion for the tutoring job. He is led inside by an old man called Mr Moon. Not long after, a pretty high school girl approaches him asking if he’s the tutor. He doesn’t reply and the girl sees him as arrogant. The girl happens to be Kang Huiji, In ha’s half sister, the one he is tutoring. During their lecture, the girl doesn’t concentrate and seems to be besotted by his looks. She continues to ask questions but when Tae Oh doesn’t reply, she gets bored. Finally, Tae Oh asks if she’s testing his patience. Kang Huiji challenges him to find out what kind of person she is.
Mr Moon man pays Tae Oh for his services then asks him to sign a confidentiality agreement which Tae Oh doesn’t hesitate to do.
That night, Tae is leaving the house and strolling down the street, to his surprise, he finds In ha waiting for him in his car. Next, we see the two men at In ha’s compound. In ha subtly asks about Kang Huiji and Tae oh senses that he misses his family. Though In ha denies it, he says Huiji is different because he keeps in touch with her.
They get inside for more beer and all of a sudden, In ha asks about Na hye won’s address saying he is interested in her. Tae oh tries to hide his discomfort and asks if he’s sincere. In ha replies that he is and tells him to find out about her for him. Tae Oh doesn’t reply and strolls away. In ha smiles to himself as Tae Oh leaves.
Tae Oh returns home but witnesses Na hye won being assaulted by her mother. She even breaks her window to get her attention and demands money from her claiming she had the right because she gave birth to her and made it possible for her to get into Hanguk university, the best in the country. Tae feels pity for her. After sometime, he watches Na hye won strolling the streets at night. When he notices it’s about to rain, he grabs an umbrella and meets her. Na hye won is surprised by his attention but Tae Oh replies that he had to since they are neighbors and class mates. He invites her to drink with him.
Soon, the two of them are outside a convenience store drinking as the rain pours outside. Hye won is surprised that he isn’t talking about what he saw earlier but Tae Oh replies that he is used to acting clueless.
Chairman Kang is in his office deliberating who between his two legitimate sons to give the future establishment program to. He is disappointed to learn his first son bought a club, suspecting he only wants to fool around.
Meanwhile, Mrs Kang tells her second son that he has to cut off everyone who would become an obstacle to his success. She sends for In ha and tells him to sign a contract and give up his inherited shares. Although, he would still enjoy privileges accrued to him as part of the family. Tae Oh had already predicted this would happen so advised In ha that should such happen, he should give it up to make them loose guard.
Tae oh is finished with his job as a tutor and is heading home when In ha picks him up in his bike and announces he signed the paper. They head to Tae Oh’s apartment with plenty of groceries except for alcohol. In ha then goes to buy beer. At the convenience store, In ha sees Hye won and invites her to have a drink with him and Tae Oh.
Tae Oh is flustered when he comes out of the house and sees In ha and Hye Won together. In ha suggests they go to his own place to drink because Tae Oh’s apartment is too cramped. Tae Oh gives an excuse about cleaning up and goes inside. Hye won is about to follow him but In ha stops her. However, Hye won says she only wants to use the restroom.
Inside, Hye won tells Tae Oh not to get the idea and think that she followed in ha here because of him. Tae oh asks her if she wants him to think that. Hye won teases him by saying what if she does. She remarks that he looks cute, leaving Tae Oh confused.
The three go to In ha’s house. In ha flirts with Hye Won and even asks her out but Hye Won rejects him, and when In ha persists, she says he will make her uncomfortable, causing In ha to stop. Tae Ho is secretly happy and through out, he can’t stop staring at Hye Won, mesmerized by her beauty. After they finish eating, In ha offers to drop Hye won home but Tae Oh reminds him that he was drunk from wine. He offers to escort Hye won instead. As he watches them leave together, In ha feels strange.
Tae Oh and Hye won are sitting separately in the bus when she texts him, asking to go for another drinking round with him.
Hye Won takes Tae Oh to a high place. There, she reveals her real intentions. She tells Tae Oh she’s just like him, a struggling person. She knows why Tae Oh is sticking close to In ha and just like him, who wants to gamble on In ha to see if he is a golden rope or not. She asks if Tae Oh can help her get to the top. Just then, In ha arrives at Tae Oh’s house. He wonders to himself why Tae Oh didn’t tell him Hye Won lived nearby. The episode ends with the three pondering different thoughts in their heads.
The episode comes to an end.
