The Auditors Episode 6 Recap

Episode 6 recap begins with Han-soo spending the night near the office cafeteria to try to catch the culprit. He encounters an unidentified person tampering with the cafeteria food. Cha-il, who has also been waiting, joins the chase. They corner the man on the rooftop, but Cha-il loses him and instead meets the president there.

He asks the president if he had seen anyone pass by but the president denies it. Cha il informs him that he was chasing the blackmailer and the president urges him to ensure he captures the culprit. Cha il calls Han soo to the control room and together, they check the surveillance footage of them chasing after the blackmailer. They come to the conclusion that he is an insider considering how he knew where to go, to avoid being seen.

Vp Hwang and director Yang are glad about the apology notice thinking that Cha il must feel dispirited but when Cha il boldly passes  by them, Vp Hwang is quite annoyed that it isn’t the case.

While asking around the company for the Blackmailer, Han soo comes across Chief im, Director Pyeon’s assistant and apologizes for the raid on his Director Pyeon’s office. He asks him to report anything to the audit team but Mr Lim is skeptical and doesn’t believe anything will change if he does.

At the office, the team talk about how almost everyone skipped lunch even thought it’s open now. Yum Kyung suk complains of feeling sick from stomach ache. At a meeting, Cha Il reveals that the apology was a ploy to trap the culprit into attempting the crime again and catching him red-handed but he failed to catch him. Although the audit team cannot uncover anything related to the blackmailer and the spiking incident, Cha-il is convinced it’s a victim of the bidding scam. They reason that since the blackmailer’s actions could have led to deaths, it’s possible he might have lost someone, driving him to such a drastic decision. One of the staff, Mr Moon, narrates how his father died from overworking. If he hadn’t won the court case against his company, he might have done something really crazy. The team decides to investigate employees with connections to the canteen biddings who may have recently lost a loved one. Cha il complements Mr Moon for being a fast worker and requests him to gather material. This makes him happy.

Mr Moon is indeed very fast and soon he is able to narrow down the employees who got affected by the scam and gives the documents to Han soo and Seo jin who leave together to investigate. Cha Il instructs Ms Ok who is acquainted with almost everyone in the company to fish out for information.

Vp Hwang and director Yang coincidentally meet President Hwang. Vp Hwang tells the president to focus more on the construction company than the J-Ibm project but president Hwang believes the Ibm is the future of their company.

After eliminating candidates, Cha-il finally identifies the culprit. The next morning, he meets Chief  Im and director Pyeon who are waiting for the elevator. He suddenly tells Chief Im  he must have been tired from running away yesterday. That’s when Chief Im discovers he has been found out. He tries running away but fails when he collides into a cleaner’s equipment. At the interrogation, Chief Im recounts how his mother fell ill and recently passed away after losing their money in the bid scam. When he tipped off the audit department, he was ignored and the company refused to take any responsibility for its subcontracting agency’s scams. However, Cha-il convinces the president to take moral responsibility by covering the victims’ legal costs. However, he is surprised when the president suggests transferring Director Pyeon to the Sanpo factory.

Director Yang informs Vp Hwang that the blackmailer had been caught and that the apology letter was simply a hoax. Director Pyeon is upset to hear that he will be transferred to a lower branch. He realizes that the president got Cha il to the company in order to get rid of him. He then takes out his anger on Han soo who happens to be in his office clearing out Chief Im’s things warning him that he will see what would happen when the real president returns.

Outside, Han soo gives Chief Im his things. He tells him that the company has decided not to press charges but he should recall that a lot of people were affected because of him. He asks how his mother died and the two sit down to talk about it. He narrates how his mother got sick due to stress and eventually passed. He wonders if he should have just kept sending appeals over and over to the audit team even though they would do nothing. After this, Chief Im leaves and Han soo saddened, returns to tell the others that he had escorted Chief Im from the company. Cha-il urges his team members not to ignore complaints and to audit properly to prevent innocent people from being affected. As everyone leaves for home, Han soo tells Seo jin that he is afraid of such a thing happening again. Seo jin tells him everyone would see them as an audit team that takes action only when there’s a threatening letter.

When Han soo returns home, he is upset. His Dad wants to speak with him but his mother suggests they leave him alone.

The next morning, Han soo gives Cha il a notice he has drafted suggesting they should get closer to the employees so they can feel free to report problems to them. The other members support him and Cha il agrees and puts up the notice. Vp Hwang is unimpressed when he sees it and asks Director Yang to provide him with every information about Cha il.

After having a meal together, the team returns to find a lot of workers in front of their office all thanks to the notice. Cha il then puts Han soo in charge of the bulletin board.

After president Hwang checks on his brother who is about to recover, he speaks with director Bang, an old friend of his father and they discuss how the company has been declining over the years. Mr Bang isn’t happy with the brothers fighting over managerial rights and feels that their father should have divided things well before he died.

On his way home, Han soo spots Cha il eating alone in a restaurant and immediately meets him but takes permission to sit with him. He asks if he usually eats alone and does not have anyone at home but Cha il replies that he lives alone. Han soo comments on how the audit team has been changing since his arrival and that he feels proud to be a part of them. His new goal is to become someone like him although he is still not convinced by his ideology not to trust anyone, he hopes that Cha Il can at least trusts his team. Cha Il doesn’t say anything to that and the two just quietly eat together.

When Cha Il returns to his dark and lonely home, he remembers Han Soo’s words about being a proud member of the team and recalls when he was younger and had to deal with a corrupt audit team superior.

When Han soo resumes work in the morning, he is happy as the employees greet him warmly. He meets Cha il and Seo jin who are waiting for the elevator. Just then, they are attracted to a ruckus. A company employee threatens to self-immolate while claiming to be a whistle-blower for office bullying. His name is Yeon woo and he is a friend of Han soo. Han soo pleads with him to put out the fire but before Yeon woo can act, Vp hwang intervenes by grabbing the lighter from his hand and punching him till he falls to the ground. He yells at everyone to get back to work before leaving. Han-soo rushes to comfort Yeon woo.

It’s revealed the employee, Yeon-woo, is an acquaintance of Han-soo and Seo-jin and was considered for the employee of the month due to his good personality. They can’t understand why he almost started a fire. Before the questioning, Cha il meets with president Hwang to report what happened. As he’s leaving, he sees a suspicious looking man enter the president’s office.

Meanwhile, director Yang has discovered a terrible secret about Cha il which he is sure will make him embarrassed before his team members and quit. He suggests to Vp Hwang to expose the secret but Vp Hwang decides to take it slowly.

Han soo asks Yeon woo what happened since he was so happy when he got transferred to the tech development team. That’s when Yeon woo reveals to him and Cha il that he has been bullied by his direct superior, Manager Park, both verbally and mentally. He was happy to be a part of the team which was handling the J-ibms project which will shape the company’s future. This was the reason why he stayed silent until now but suddenly found out he could no longer access the files because he was excluded from the project.  Upon his complaint, Cha-il and Seo-jin interview the head of the technology department Mr Lee who happens to be the suspicious looking man Cha il had seen entering the president’s office. However, they find no complaints against him as he claims that Yeon woo was incompetent and lacked a strong base. He reveals that Manager Park suggested he be removed because he was not beneficial to the team.

Han soo takes Yeon woo to his parents’ restaurant. They subtly scold him for not making time to see them but he apologizes that he was too busy. Han Soo tries to cheer him up by giving him some chicken and slowly, Yeon woo starts smiling.

The next morning, Yeon woo reveals to Cha il that Mr Park always insulted him when it was just the two of them. There is no voice recordings because it’s prohibited by the company. Meanwhile, Manager Park denies the allegations and adds that Yeon-woo has been incompetent, despite his patience. Seo-jin comes back from interviewing the department members but cannot get any proof supporting Yeon-woo’s claims. They all say the same thing about Yeon woo, that he is incompetent.

Han soo makes Yeon woo stay at his home and then asks if there’s no one else who knew of the bullying. Yeon woo replies that he only scolded him in the presence of everyone but used harsh words when they were alone. Han soo asks about Mr Lee and he describes him as a nice person. Just then, he gets a call from Mr Lee who gives him a ten day leave. Yeon woo realizes that he has been removed from the J-BIMS project, which he passionately wanted to join.

Han-soo is angry about this and complains to Cha il. Cha il reiterates that there is no evidence so they have to postpone the investigation but Han soo recalls before leaving  that Yeon woo informed him that the president instructed Cha IL to stop the investigation. He confronts Cha Il about it, disappointed that he has given up ignoring Yeon woo’s pain that drove him to try and burn himself. Cha Il argues that he is not ignoring Yeon woo’s pain. He is only postponing the case and that he should leave out sentiments due to his personal feelings. Suddenly. Han soo asks what he will do if there is an attempt to leak the company’s technology. This catches Cha-il’s attention as the episode ends.

This episode has all the elements blended into one. I love how the drama shows that Cha iL isn’t perfect and can make mistakes and loose sight of things. However, Han soo who is quite stubborn seems to be the only one that can get him to see things in a new perspective.
