Episode 5 recap begins with Shin Cha-il receiving a threatening letter. Consequently, he stops everyone from eating. Vp Hwang happens to be there with director Yang complaining about Cha Il and Ms Yoo’s betrayal. However when Cha il appears, he is angry. We learn that some laborers have been hospitalized, but with a big company event around the corner, the president asks Cha-il to internally investigate the case without the issue getting leaked to the public.
Vp hwang meets Cha il outside the president’s office and the two get into a confrontation when Cha il refuses to tell him why he stopped everyone from eating. He nearly fights with him until the president arrives to put a stop to them.
The team discusses the negative impact of the case on the company with Han soo angry that the blackmailer is using food to cause a mess. Yum Kyung suk tries to use the opportunity to smear Cha Il’s name but Cha ill calls all of them for a meeting where they decide to shut all cafeterias and investigate the cafeteria staff and all the stakeholders. He instructs Han soo and Seo jin to check out the construction company Cafetaria where it all started.
While Han soo and Seo jin are discussing the case, they see an angry Vp Hwang who is speaking to someone on the phone demanding where people will eat once the cafeterias are closed.
Yum Kyung Suk tells the Director the reason for the sudden shut down of cafeterias. When the director hears that they were all almost poisoned to death, he stumbles in shock. He gets a call from Vp hwang and meets up with him, unable to tell him about the food poisoning since it’s confidential.
Cha-il visits the head of the contracting department director Pyeon and finds that the canteens’ management was being outsourced to an agency, but the contract with the agency has ended. The director is especially uninterested in participating in the auditing process and is uncooperative, refusing to give Cha iL the number of the contract agency. He gives him documents making his assistant Mr Lim uncomfortable by accusing him of embezzling a little. Cha il advises Mr Lim to desist from doing that but then tells him that if he experiences any violence from his superior, he should inform the audit team. With that, he leaves.
Han-soo and Seo-jin visit the cafeteria where the incident took place and talk to the canteen manager who doesn’t seem to be at fault. She tells them the problem must have come from those sending them ingredients and that only the japchae meal was affected but she shares a knowing glance with director Yang when he and VP Hwang Dae-woong visit the canteen to learn more about the case. Vp Hwang is visibly kind towards Seo-jin, which Han-soo observes but can’t decipher. Vp Hwang asks them to stop blowing things out of proportion as they share a good meal, verifying that the food quality is not the issue.
Ms Ok tells Cha il that director Pyeon is arrogant towards him because he used to be the sick president’s right hand man but the current president doesn’t like him which has reduced his influence. He had helped the former president secure a land deal and since then became haughty.
President Se-woong feels suspicious when he learns that his older brother might recover soon.
Vp Hwang instructs Han soo and Seo jin to tell Cha il to close the case. After he leaves, Han soo finds him suspicious especially with how nicely he behaved towards Seo jin but she brushes it aside. On their way back, Han soo and Seo jin tell Cha il their findings, even sending him pictures of the clean kitchen.
Han Soo tells his parents about the food poisoning at his company. They advise him to spread the news around, not keep it a secret like how they kept their relationship a secret while working together.
The audit team begins their investigations into anything that seems suspicious. Meanwhile, director Yang is most bothered about the case. Vp Hwang believes there’s a spy latched on him considering how Ms Yoo’s whereabouts was easily detected. He asks director Yang if he is the spy but he denies it revealing that the canteen owner is his in-law, and he had lobbied for her to get the JU canteen contract. He requests Dae-woong for help as he might get caught in the crossfire.
Han-soo discovers director Yang’s association with the canteen owner. He tells this to Cha il. Yum Kyung suk overhears and texts director Yang who is frustrated. He finally reveals the threatening message the audit team recieved that if they don’t audit the on-site restaurant, they would poison all the canteens. Vp Hwang is enraged that he wasn’t informed about this prior.
Cha-il then interviews both the director of the contractor team Director Pyeon and director Yang, who accepts his connection to the owner. He confiscates their phones, but the audit team finds no foul play through their call logs. Cha-il, along with Han-soo and Seo-jin, then retrieves all the documents and computers at director Pyeon’s office.
After work, Han soo tells Seo jin he felt bad to look at the workers’ faces when they carried away the documents and computers. Seo jin tells him not to bother about such things. While discussing the case, Han-soo and Seo-jin hypothesize that the culprit might be a victim who couldn’t win the bidding due to corruption. They find the restaurant that lost the bid and meet with the owner. The victim informs them of the rampant bribery by the agency in charge of subcontracting the canteen. She and many others lost a huge amount of money to scams by the agency. They inform Shin Cha-il of their findings, putting the director of the contracting director Pyeon under more scrutiny.
Han Soo informs his parents about their recent situation and how close they are to finding the culprit. They cheer him on and in his privacy, Han soo seems very happy.
The next day, Shin Cha-il meets with director pyeon about his association with the agency owner, but he denies participating in any corruption. Cha-il is then called to the president’s office with VP Dae-woong present. Due to director Yang and the contracting director submitting their resignations, the president informs Cha-il that they’re losing the employees’ faith. Meanwhile, the team are unsure they would fix this problem, Only Han soo has faith in Shin cha il but he is shocked when Cha-il decides to issue a company-wide apology from the audit department and stop investigating the on site restaurant due to lack of evidence and that the threatening letter was a prank. He tells Han soo and Seo jin to write the letter and orders the restaurants to be reopened by tomorrow.
Cha il’s apology letter to Director Yang and Director Pyeong circulates around the company. Han soo doesn’t believe Cha IL gave up while Seo jin believes he listened to President Hwang’s order. Seo-jin receives a call from Vp Hwang who tells her that his methods are different and that the company is his battlefield. Unlike Cha il who only cares about his cause, he cares more about the welfare of the company and staff. He suggests an ice breaker between them, and Seo-jin agrees to have a meal with him and her mother later.
Everyone leaves after work while Han soo stays behind. Meanwhile, Cha il’s whereabouts are unknown. President Hwang seems upset to see Cha il’s apology letter seemingly bothered that his brother would recover and return to take over the company. Later, Han-soo reasons that since the blackmailer knew the new audit manager and delivered the letter straight to the audit department, it could be an insider’s job. He realizes that Cha Il only pretended to drop the case in order to figure out the blackmailer’s next move. Han soo waits in the canteen until morning and spies the people delivering food items. However, one of them in a mask nearly poisons the soy sauce but Cha il who has also been hiding this entire time catches him. The attacker runs into Han soo and the two starts running chasing after him at the same time but they end up losing him. However, Cha il ends up running into president Hwang just as he’s close to catching the culprit.
This episode is really entertaining and full of twists and turns. I love how Han soo who used to give in to everything is now on the front row fighting for justice. Also, I think the show is trying to make us suspect president Hwang. I feel he is putting all these obstacles on Cha il’s path in order to help him get rid of these corrupt people. I don’t think he’s happy about his brother’s return because he too was corrupt. Anyway, I’m looking forward to the next chapter but I do wish the president isn’t a bad guy.
