During episode 9 of The Atypical Family, Gwi-ju tells Ms Bok about the additional family ring that Da-hae had. Ms Bok tries to comfort Gwi-ju about his future by pointing out that the fire is already in the past and Da-hae’s presence is evidence that he will be okay.
Once Gwi-ju departs, Ms. Bok is optimistic that Da-hae and Gwi-ju could restore the reputation of the Bok family. This is the moment she recalls the lottery ticket but can’t locate it. In the meantime, Soon-gu goes to a club to hand over the 2.3 billion won lottery ticket to his dance partner’s husband. It is later exposed that Baek Il-hong planned this scheme, manipulating the husband and wife, who are notorious swindlers, to trick Soon-gu.
Soon-gu comes back to his house and discovers that someone has sent photos to Ms Bok of him dancing at the club. Feeling deceived, Ms Bok confronts Soon-gu, who admits he had to keep his distance and be cautious around her because she always knew what was coming next. The situation escalates into a major disagreement, causing Ms Bok to request Soon-gu to exit the residence.
The following day, the rest of the family believes Soon-gu is away on holiday, except I-na, who saw her grandfather as he was departing and had a feeling that something was amiss. At the same time, Da-hae is surprised to come across the 2.8 billion won winning lottery ticket with Baek Il-hong and tells Gwi-ju about it. She cautions him that Baek Il-hong is scheming to ruin his family and that her actual goal is to harm Ms Bok, the profitable source of the lottery.
At the same time, Ms Bok confronts Dong-hee and her fiancé and exposes him as a fraud due to his cheating on Dong-hee with Grace. The man exits the restaurant, and Dong-hee mentions that everyone is careful in their home because of Ms. Bok’s dreams. She mentions having to give up her own dreams because Ms. Bok insisted that she marry and start a family in order to continue the Bok family lineage. We still don’t have information about what transpired between them. Upon Ms Bok’s departure, she encounters Baek Il-hong and he accompanies her to the sauna to aid in her relaxation before sleeping.
While at school, I-na is being picked on by nearly all her classmates, causing her to damage her glasses and become the subject of mockery. She can almost read Hye-rim’s mind as she pretends to assist her, all the while secretly mocking I-na. I-na ultimately escapes. While looking through his father’s room for hints on his whereabouts, Gwi-ju gets a call informing him that I-na has disappeared after leaving school without permission.
Gwi-ju, Da-hae, and Hyun-tae search everywhere for I-na together, but without success. Gwi-ju comes to the realization that he is unaware of his daughter and that I-na has been by herself for a considerable period of time. During her search for I-na, Da-hae stumbles upon the sauna and discovers Ms Bok napping. During a disagreement with Il-hong, it is uncovered that Baek Il-hong perceives Da-hae as her deceased child, prompting her to go to great lengths to ensure Da-hae stays close. Da-hae clearly tells Il-hong that if she continues to interfere with the Bok family, she will disown her and walk away.
Da-hae encounters Gwi-ju, who is looking through I-na’s room for hints on her location. They discover her damaged mobile phone. While thinking hard, Da-hae envisions the upcoming presence of Gwi-ju, who tells them that I-na can be found in the gym at school. Da-hae senses something isn’t right about the upcoming Gwi-ju but chooses to hurry with the current Gwi-ju to search for I-na. She is discovered in the gym’s storage room, where Hye-rim had placed her under lock.
During dinner at a restaurant, Gwi-ju demands to know the identity of the person who locked I-na inside. Da-hae accompanies I-na to the bathroom, where I-na confides in her about her issues with Hye-rim. Da-hae recounts her personal encounter with bullying and affirms to I-na that she has a supporter in her father. Upon Da-hae’s return, she advises Gwi-ju to remain composed, without speaking, and to focus solely on making eye contact with I-na.
Afterwards, seated side by side, Gwi-ju takes Da-hae’s suggestion and I-na delves into his thoughts, understanding the depth of his affection for her. Gwi-ju finds out her ability, while I-na reveals how her ability led to the death of her mother and drained happiness from Gwi-ju’s life. In a flashback, it is shown that after Gwi-ju went back to the past, I-na unintentionally heard her mother’s thoughts: “This is because of you.” The reason is that you came into the world on that day. During her childhood, she pondered if she shouldn’t exist, causing her mother to become flustered and resulting in the accident. Since that time, I-na has viewed herself as a monster. Gwi-ju embraces her, reassuring her that it’s false. He loves and treasures her. The two eventually reconcile as father and daughter.
Upon regaining consciousness at the sauna, Ms Bok informs Il-hong that her daughter is still alive. During a flashback scene, it is disclosed that Da-hae instructed Ms Bok to exploit Il-hong’s daughter as a vulnerability, suggesting she may have been deceiving Il-hong.
At the same time, Dong-hee is using the stairs as a workout, with Grace assisting. On the rooftop, Grace invites her to fly together, forming a unique connection as the overlooked members of their families. In another place, Gwi-ju assists I-na in learning how to ride a bicycle. While returning, I-na encounters Joon-woo, who advises her not to escape and assures her that he is trying his hardest to stay away from her. Because I-na did not acknowledge his confession, he feels dismissed. Before he exits, I-na whispers that she also has feelings for him.
At the same time, Gwi-ju and Da-hae have a conversation about I-na. While Da-hae is on the verge of informing Gwi-ju about his future self appearing strange, Gwi-ju promptly jumps back in time to the moment of I-na’s birth, happy that he can now go back. Upon his return, he assures that he will also rescue Da-hae, and proceeds to place the Bok family ring on her finger and another on his own. He claims he will return to rescue her in order to reunite with her in 13 years and fall in love with her. They exchange a kiss.
In the meantime, Ms Bok has a frightening dream and rushes to the club to find Soon-gu, breaking down and telling him that Gwi-ju is going to die.
