The Atypical Family Episode 3 Recap

In Episode 3 of The Atypical Family, the story continues from the previous scene where Gwi-ju is shocked when she touches Da-hae from the past. Therefore, since Da-hae can see and touch him, it is an entirely new experience for Gwi-ju.

In the present, he returns to his room and attempts to travel back in time to reunite with his deceased wife, Se-yeon. However, unlike Da-hae, she is unable to see or touch him.

Feeling uncertain about his newfound abilities, he decides to visit Da-hae at the spa. During their meeting, it is revealed that Ms. Bok has requested Da-hae to resign from her job and come live with the family, in hopes of persuading Gwi-ju to reconsider a new romantic partner.

Ms Bok convinces Gwi-ju to go out on a date with Da-hae by mentioning that she had a vision of Da-hae wearing the Bok family ring. Gwi-ju meets Da-hae at the park because he is curious about her connection to his abilities, but he finds himself remembering a significant event from his past that had a profound impact on his life.

In a flashback, we are introduced to Gwi-ju from a previous time. He is working as a firefighter when he hears about I-na’s birth. He quickly goes to the hospital as one of his good friends covers for him at work. Despite being the happiest day of Gwi-ju’s life, he quickly learns that for numerous parents, it turns into a nightmare when a fire breaks out at a neighboring school, resulting in the loss of many students’ lives.

Gwi-ju later learns that his good friend had also died in the fire. For years, Gwi-ju dwells on a memory that is both his most cherished and most painful, hoping to find a way to alter the past but ultimately without success. Yet, within this memory, he discovers a vibrant door that he can physically reach out and touch, leading him to believe that he can potentially help others by seeking out a solution.

For seven years, Gwi-ju continues to involuntarily revisit the same memory while traveling. On the day of the accident, it was revealed that Se-Yeon was weary of Gwi-ju’s constant traveling and requested that he cease it. She threatened to leave him, but Gwi-ju accidentally traveled to the past. When he came back, he discovered that Se-yeon had died in an accident.

After revisiting his memories, Gwi-ju returns to the present and decides not to approach Da-hae, who is waiting for him at the park. Da-hae and her deceitful family plan to seize control of the Bok family’s property.

The strategy is for Da-hae to wed Gwi-ju and collect proof of his mental instability in order for Da-hae to gain control of the Bok family’s assets as the legal guardian.

The following day, Da-hae arrives at the Bok family home carrying her bags and a bouquet of flowers she presents as a gift from Gwi-ju. She also reveals that Gwi-ju hugged her, which surprised Gwi-ju as he does not recall actually doing so.

When he takes her to the side, she shares with him about how he hugged her and gave her flowers in the park. Gwi-ju ponders these strange events and wonders if it could be his future self once more. I-na, who doesn’t seem to care about Da-hae coming to the house, goes to school and it becomes clear that she has a strange obsession with her glasses.

In another place, Dong-hee fantasizes about being a stunning model, maybe reminiscing about her past, but in her dream, she begins to fly, gains weight, and ultimately crashes. Upon waking up, she discovers that her mother has listed their house for sale, as the real estate agent arrives with potential buyers. It has been disclosed that the Bok family is facing financial difficulties due to the plummeting stock prices of Ms. Bok. At the same time, Da-hae is occupied with documenting this latest development and sharing it with the rest of the group.

Afterwards, Da-hae prepares a meal for everyone, but no one shows interest in it. Soon-Gu, Gwi ju’s father is leaving the house because he hardly ever gets a break from doing chores. Gwi-ju tells Da-hae that their family doesn’t eat dinner together.

Some time later, Da-hae notices I-na eating ramen, asks her about her glasses, and helps tidy up her eyebrows, saying that I-na is beautiful and shouldn’t feel unnoticed. She notices Gwi-ju looking at the two with affection and believes that I-na is the crucial factor. This is the moment when it becomes known that I-na is a telepath, and she unexpectedly exclaims, “You’re referring to the key to the 50-billion-won building?” which catches Da-hae off guard.

Later at school, I-na is approached by a classmate who invites her to join the dance club, but ends up accidentally throwing her glasses across the room. Han Joon-woo, who is I-na’s classmate and whom she has a crush on, gives back her glasses right after she hears him think to himself, “She’s pretty”

I-na has also agreed to join the dance club that Joon-woo is a member of.

At the same time, Dong-hee’s relationship is close to falling apart. Grace eavesdrops on Dong-hee’s conversation after her fiancé cancels their dinner reservation. Dong-hee chooses to offer a few influential individuals a special treatment instead. However, Dong-hee catches her fiancé cheating on her with Grace, who is actually orchestrating the betrayal. Subsequently, they decide to end their relationship.

Once again, Da-hae has cooked a meal at the Bok family mansion that no one wants to eat. Gwi-ju assists her when the kitchen towel catches fire and notices that she is scared of fire.

With a sense of empathy, he takes a seat at the dining table to have his meal, and is accompanied by I-na. It was disclosed that I-na had requested Da-hae to prepare a stew for her.

Afterwards, Gwi-ju and Da-hae discuss the flowers, and when Gwi-ju goes outside to take out the garbage, he notices the same flowers being sold. He believes that Da-hae holds the key to something important, as she is the only one able to see or touch him in the past.

He goes to the park while carrying the flower bouquet. By coincidence, Da-hae stumbles and they end up embracing as they meet each other.

In another part of the current scene, Da-hae prepares tea for Ms. Bok and secretly puts sleeping pills in it. Dong-hee comes back and requests a cup of tea at the same time. She has doubts about the tea Da-hae has been giving Ms Bok and suspects that Da-hae may have been mixing sleeping pills in it. In order to demonstrate her argument, Da-hae consumes the tea that has been tampered with.

Dong-hee is monitoring Da-hae while Da-hae struggles to stay awake. Afterwards, she follows Dong-hee into a room where she suspects Dong-hee of stealing from her mother, only to accidentally capture her floating in the air.

Feeling shocked, she quickly leaves but accidentally stumbles and is caught by Gwi-ju, who is soaked from the park’s water fountain. She looks in the mirror nearby and notices that Gwi-ju’s reflection is missing. Startled, she takes a few steps back and lets out a scream!
