Episode 6 recap begins with Hu-yeong and Hong-ju sharing a passionate moment as they express their feelings for one another. Hu-yeong takes Hong-ju out on a date and encourages her to enjoy her meal. Initially shy and awkward, Hong-ju feels more at ease thanks to Hu-yeong’s support. They return to Seoul that night and are about to kiss in the car when CEO Baek spots them and playfully urges them to continue.
Once inside the house, CEO Baek confronts Hu-yeong about his resignation from his job in the USA, revealing that his sister intends to handle the situation herself, which worries him and especially after his parents divorce. He asserts to CEO Baek that he won’t return to the USA because of his feelings for Hong-ju and refuses to heed his uncle’s advice.
Later that night, Hu-yeong receives a call from his friend Joseph in the States, who questions his resignation. Hu-yeong blames it on Serendipity, and Joseph expresses curiosity about how Hu-yeong’s mother will react, making Hu-yeong realize that others are more concerned about her response. He calls Hong-ju to arrange a meeting, but she declines, saying she is already in bed. They flirt over the phone before ending the call, with Hong-ju feeling shy and embarrassed about their new relationship.
The following day, after being cautioned by his uncle to behave in his house, Hu-yeong tries to have breakfast with Hong-ju but discovers she is out on a girls’ date with Hye-ji. Hye-ji is getting her hair permed for a hiking trip with Mr. Sohn and her father the next day, and Hong-ju, influenced by Hye-ji, decides to get her hair permed as well.
That evening, the two friends gather at Sang-pil’s restaurant. Sang-pil is about to bring up Hong-ju’s contract with Jun-ho in front of Hye-ji but is interrupted when Hong-ju confronts him. Hu-yeong feels frustrated as he waits for Hong-ju to contact him, while she enjoys herself with others. Sang-pil updates him on the happenings at the restaurant. Later that night, Hu-yeong waits outside for Hong-ju, who eventually arrives with a drunken CEO Baek. CEO Baek is upset about his ex and tries to call her, but accidentally reaches CEO Bae, who is irritated by the call. Hong-ju speaks to the person on the line, unaware that it is her boss, though she finds the voice somewhat familiar.
Hu-yeong helps CEO Baek home but abandons him when his uncle nearly reveals he quit his job to avoid traveling. He leaves with Hong-ju, who is worried about CEO Baek, while Hu-yeong is more concerned about not having seen his girlfriend all day. Hong-ju frets over her messy hair, but Hu-yeong compliments her hairstyle and asks her out on an official date for the next day. The following morning, Hong-ju and Hu-yeong prepare for their date, while Hye-ji gets ready for a trekking trip with Mr. Sohn and her father. Mr. Kim informs Hye-ji that Mr. Sohn is unwell and won’t be joining them for the trek. Hye-ji attempts to express her feelings for Mr. Sohn to her father, but he dismisses her concerns.
Feeling upset and bored, Hye-ji decides to join Hong-ju, interrupting her date with Hu-yeong. At the café, Hu-yeong and Hong-ju hold hands, which makes Hye-ji feel excluded. To distract her, Hu-yeong suggests that Hye-ji visit Mr. Sohn. Meanwhile, Mr. Sohn wakes up and sees a message from Hye-ji, pondering how to reply. Hye-ji worries about her casual outfit, so Hu-yeong and Hong-ju help her pick out something new and drive her to Mr. Sohn’s place. As she steps out feeling determined, Hu-yeong comments on how she used to be shy in high school, while Hong-ju notes that Hye-ji has found her true self since then.
At that moment, Mr. Sohn’s mother arrives to check on him. Later, Mr. Sohn goes outside to get a cab for her, and Hye-ji unexpectedly encounters his mother. She is already scolding Mr. Sohn about being single and sees Hye-ji as a suitable match for him. The mother talks to Hye-ji about the strong men in the Sohn family, mentioning that she has seven sons, which embarrasses Mr. Sohn. He angrily tells his mother to leave, leaving Hye-ji bewildered.
After Mr. Sohn’s mother departs, Hye-ji tries to assist him by grabbing his arm, but he is taken aback and pushes her away. Hye-ji interprets this as rejection and returns home feeling upset. Meanwhile, Jun-ho visits his uncle, Mr. Kim, Hye-ji’s father, and is surprised to learn that Hu-yeong was his high school student. They discuss Jun-ho’s breakup with Hong-ju, and Mr. Kim advises him to stay away from her after his past actions, which frustrates Jun-ho.
Hong-ju and Hu-yeong exchange furtive glances as Hu-yeong drives them to an art gallery. They engage in playful banter during the car ride, which continues at the gallery. Hu-yeong confesses to Hong-ju that his heart races whenever she says his name and reveals that he has had feelings for her since high school. Their romantic moment is interrupted when CEO Baek calls Hu-yeong home for an urgent matter. He drops Hong-ju off and promises to see her the next evening. Once home, Hong-ju discovers her high school memory box and reads an essay titled “Ambition,” where she mentions Hu-yeong after discussing his aspirations during a conversation in the pit.
Meanwhile, Hu-yeong visits his mother in her hotel room, leading to a tense exchange. He informs his Mom Do-seon that he won’t be returning to the USA with her, but she refuses to accept his decision. The following day, Hye-ji goes about her workday as usual, but Mr. Sohn seems anxious around her. He is taken aback when he sees that Hye-ji has cleaned and returned his shoes, behaving very formally towards him.
At the same time, Hong ju prepares for her workday at Jun-ho’s house. She plans to meet Hu Yeong before work but finds out he is not home. As Hu Yeong drives to the RockAsset Office with his mother, Hong-ju waits at the bus stop as she typically does. Do-seon recognizes her from a meeting they had ten years prior and remarks how Seoul is a very small place.
Meanwhile, Hong-ju is concerned about Hu-yeong’s well-being. On the other hand, Mr. Sohn is trying to gather the courage to apologize to Hye-ji for his rudeness. He encounters her on her way to class but ends up botching the apology. Hye-ji misinterprets Mr. Sohn’s words and feels sad, questioning why the PE teacher is being unkind to her. She then apologizes to him again and vows not to burden him with her feelings anymore.
At RockAsset, CEO Baek is anxious because his sister is at the office. Do-seon informs him that she plans to live in South Korea full-time now that Hu-yeong has resigned. Hu-yeong attempts to convince her not to stay for his sake, but his mother is resolute, insisting she won’t leave without him. Coincidentally, Hong-ju arrives at Jun-ho’s house and sits at his desk.
Jun-ho hopes to discuss his panic attacks and mental health issues with Hong-ju to clarify his situation during their breakup. However, Hong-ju overlooks the hints he has dropped through their shared memories. Jun-ho tries to persuade her to work with him longer, but she declines and is about to leave when he suddenly collapses from an anxiety attack.
A flashback from ten years ago shows Hu-yeong waiting at a bus stop across from Hong-ju. He receives a call from his mother about their move to the USA and boards the bus before Hong-ju can reach him. Do-seon, watching from her car, notices Hu-yeong looking at Hong-ju. When Hong-ju crosses the street, she is disheartened to see that Hu-yeong has already left on the bus. Do-seon approaches Hong-ju at the bus stop and offers her the anime CDs that Hu-yeong had forgotten. Hong-ju finds the encounter with Do-seon strange and decides to leave as the episode ends.
As nice as this episode of Serendipity’s Embrace was, it’s a real downer knowing we only have two episodes left to savor. The chemistry between Do-seon and Hong-ju has me scratching my head, though. What was she up to in her car that night if she had already spilled the beans to Hu-yeong about their big move to the USA over the phone? And honestly, why would a parent share such a monumental detail through a call? Suspicious, right?
On the flip side, the budding romance between Hye-ji and Mr. Sohn has me on the edge of my seat, and the thought of waiting another week for the next episode is just too much to bear! They’re absolutely adorable together and it’s clear they’re head over heels. I have no doubt they’ll end up as a couple, but that just makes my heart ache for poor Sang-pil.
With CEO Baek’s little escapade with CEO Bae, Sang-pil is left as the lone wolf of the group. Perhaps he could find a spark with Jun-ho? That would definitely add a delightful twist to this already charming K-drama!
