Episode 2 of Serendipity’s Embrace starts with Hong-ju waking up after her drunken misadventures from the night before. She becomes especially embarrassed when she recalls her interaction with Hu-yeong. Just then, Hye-ji shows up at her place to bribe Hong-ju with food to learn what she was up to last night. At the same time, Hu-yeong has breakfast with his uncle and the latter asks about Hu-yeong’s meeting with his first love.
CEO Baek suggests they should invite their upstairs neighbor, who is none other than Hong-ju, over for breakfast. Hu-yeong startles his uncle when he refuses by claiming that he didn’t make enough food.
While Hye Jin and Hong ju are drinking, Hye Ji scolds Hong ju for appearing late to their get together which might have seemed rude to Hu Yeong. (My girl has forgotten she barely lasted five minutes with Hu Yeong before getting drunk herself).
Hu Jeong apologises and tells her about getting drunk at Director Kim’s party and going to Sang-pil’s restaurant, upset that Joon-ho suddenly showed up.
Hye-ji is fuming when she learns that Joon-ho has returned to South Korea after abandoning Hong-ju. She gets upset at his audacity for showing up in front of Hong-ju after what he did. Hong-ju tells her best friend that she played it cool in front of Joon-ho but Hye Ji doubts that. The two decide to mull over their respective first loves by eating pastries. Hong-ju asks if Hye-ji has gotten a chance to talk to Hu-yeong. Hye-ji calls Hu-yeong handsome and manly but Hong-ju disagrees, describing him as annoying back in highschool.
A flashback shows young Hye-ji crying about how Hu-yeong hadn’t responded to the 10 love letters she had given him using Hong-ju’s help. When Hu-yeong does not respond to any of the letters, Hong-ju suggests that Hye-ji should write him a public letter so she disturbs him everywhere, at his class room, while he is running during sports with his class mates, at the library but he ignores her every time which leads Hong ju to advice Hye ji to give up on Hu Yeong but Hye Ji asks if she too can give up on Joon ho.
So she makes the biggest confession. One day, Hu-yeong finds a love confession written by “H.J.” on the chalkboard of his classroom. Hu-yeong’s classmates, including Sang-pil are shocked and tease him about it but Hu-yeong just wipes the note without any reaction.
The episode moves back to the present day as Hong-ju tells Hye-ji how rude it was of Hu-yeong to never respond to her. Hye-ji claims that it was fate that she was fluent in English now that Hu-yeong had shown up in their lives. She adds that she was fated to move to the US with Hu-yeong and the two friends get excited.
At the same time, Hu-yeong subtly convinces CEO Baek to call his neighbor Hong-ju and ask her to hang out with him the following day. CEO thinks he should hang out instead with his first love and is quite suspicious since he is taking the initiative to reach out to a woman first. He thinks that Hu Yeong doesn’t know Hong ju but he says he met her yesterday which further adds to his uncle’s suspicions
Hye Ji is advising Hong ju to date when CEO Baek calls Hong-ju. They start talking about her blind date. CEO Baek advises Hong ju not to go out with the person Hye Ji recommended causing Hye ji to feel offended and expose that he’s dating as well. Just then, CEO Baek asks Hye Ji if she went to Obok high, the same High school as Hu Yeong and if she went on an outing yesterday. Hye Ji clarifies this and embarrassed that his uncle might misunderstand, Hu Yeong grabs his phone telling him to go straight to the point. CEO Baek then tells Hong ju that she needs to take care of the “kid” who is travelling from the USA. Hong-ju assumes that CEO Baek is talking about his “niece” after he sends the picture of a little girl. She agrees.
Hu Yeong is upset at his uncle’s mistake because the photo he sent is his child photo where he looked like a girl. So he pettily refuses to help him look for an important item. CEO Baek then texts Hong-ju to bring Hye-ji along, assuming that Hye-ji is the girl Hu-yeong has feelings for.
Hye Ji thinks they will be seeing a kid so she decides not to go, saying she is doing something important tomorrow.
The next morning, Hu Yeong dresses himself in preparation for his day with Hong ju. She shows up at the house expecting a little kid but is shocked to see Hu-yeong there who clarifies that the picture is actually his baby picture when he was at a recital. She is embarrassed when he tells her to stop drinking too much but then Hong-ju agrees to entertain Hu-yeong for the day when he asks her to.She is about to text Hye Ji when Hu Yeong gives her the keys to his car to drive.
Meanwhile, Hye-ji tries to spend the holiday getting a massage and gets upset since her plan to spend the holiday with Hong ju has failed. Just then, her father enters her room urging her to go on a trekking trip with him.
Hong ju drives Hu Yeong to the amusement park. She drags him on various rides and notices how Hu-yeong is smiling a lot more than he used to when they were in high school. Both of them had a nice time. Later, Hong-ju tries to call and text Hye-ji but she is having a hard time climbing the mountain with her Dad and his friend Mr Noh.
Hu Yeong is reading a text from his uncle who is misunderstanding that he is out with his first love Hye Ji. Hu-yeong ignores the text and just then, Hong ju meets him. He tells her the rides were lame and that they should do something hardcore but Hong ju wants to go home telling him it’s draining to be outside. She hasn’t had fun in a long time because she was too busy working. Nevertheless, she thanks him for the outing. Hu Yeong wants to have more fun but Hong ju drags him into eating spicy ramen. He challenges her assuming she has low spice tolerance after witnessing how much she hated that spicy Chicken Sang pil had given her but to Hu-yeong’s surprise, Hong-ju wins the contest and he agrees to do anything she wishes for. As per the dare, Hong-ju convinces Hu-yeong to dress up in hanboks which makes her excited. Hu Yeong complains that he is dressed as a Eunuch and she as a king but Hu Yeong hilariously reminds him that as the loser, he can’t complain.
Meanwhile, Hye-ji, who is tired from trekking, nearly trips when Mr Noh, who is actually a young man, saves her from tripping. Mr Noh checks if her foot is injured but then gets awkward when he notices he is seeing her bare skin. He panics and the two fall over. They bith apologise to each other but have to cut their conversation after Hye ji’s dad calls out to them. Mr Noh leaves first and Hye Jin recieves a message from Hong ju telling her she has something to say about CEO Baek’s ‘niece’
She also gets excited when Joon ho, who happens to be her cousin, texts her that he will be coming over. She suddenly becomes so energized that she speeds down the mountain surprising her father.
Hu Yeong and Hong ju take photos of each other throughout the rest of the evening but at a point, Hu Yeong gets mesmerized by Hong ju’s beauty when she’s parking her hair. Just then, she gets a call upset to find that it’s Joon ho. She’s tempted to answer it until Hu Yeong grabs it away. She takes his photos and also gets overwhelmed by his handsome looks.
As the two head out to go back home, Hong ju wants them both to have more fun but it suddenly starts raining. In the car, Hong-ju looks at the pictures they had taken and admires them. Hu Yeong compliments himself for being a great photographer leaving Hong ju laughing. She then asks Hu-yeong to visit South Korea often as it was fun catching up with him. Hu Yeong tells her she’s acting like they wouldn’t meet each other again. Hong ju tells him that it would be a few more years before they see each other again. That’s how school reunions are often like.
On the other hand, Joon-ho shows up to meet his cousin, Hye-ji’s parents. After their meeting, Hye-ji waits outside for him and confronts him for messing with Hong-ju’s feelings and ditching her three years ago. She warns that she will protect Hong ju but Joon ho coolly says Hye ji is being protective because she knows Hong ju still likes him. He then teases that he likes her new personality after she got her face done. He leaves Hye Ji cursing after him.
Hu-yeong decides to spend more time with Hong-ju and takes her to the Han River, hoping to eat some fried chicken as they watch the night lights. Due to the rain, Hu-yeong and Hong-ju watch the Han River from inside the car with no chicken stall in sight. Hu Yeong then asks Hu Yeong if she remembers their last conversation. She says she does and Ju Yeong is happy thinking she understands his feelings but she was actually referring to how she spoke about their time in school. Hu Yeong laughs in disbelief, making Hong ju awkward. She then mistakenly rolls down the glass causing rain to splatter on her. But Hu Yeong leans over her to close the glass unknowingly creating a tense romantic moment as they stare at each other. Hu-yeong gets close as if to kiss her but Hong-ju asks him to go back to his seat and drop her back home.
On the drive back, Hong-ju and Hu-yeong keep glancing at each other, awkward over what happened earlier. Once they arrive outside CEO Baek’s house, Hu-yeong grabs Hong-ju’s arm to shelter her from the rain. Hong-ju gets awkward and borrows an umbrella to go home. Hu-yeong asks her to hang out with him for fried chicken soon. Hong-ju agrees and leaves. Hu Yeong keeps thinking about their moment while Hong ju wonders how the vibe between her and Hu-yeong has suddenly changed, thinking if it’s because he’s handsome as she even thought he was going to kiss her.
Another flashback from high school shows Hong-ju scolding Hu-yeong and threatening to kick him for ignoring Hye-ji’s love letters. She tells him that if she were in her place, she would never like him. Hu-yeong harshly tells Hong-ju that her friend should focus more on learning Korean than writing love letters. Hong ju nearly kicks him for this but stops herself and tells him to properly reject Hye Ji.
The entire school learns about the incident and Sang-pil teases Hu-yeong. He wonders why Hu-yeong hadn’t rejected Hye-ji already asking why he kept dragging things. Sang-pil asks Hu-yeong if he likes interacting with Hong-ju whenever she gives him Hye-ji’s letters.
Hu-yeong thinks about all the times Hong-ju chased after him to give him the letters from Hye-ji. One day, Hu-yeong is in the library when he finds Hong-ju napping. He saves her from dozing off and hitting her head on the table. Hu-yeong reads the book request letter Hong-ju was writing. He edits it so that the school library would buy the book that Hong-ju wanted to read.
The episode moves back to the present night as Hu-yeong thinks of ways to get Hong-ju to hang out with him. He stares at his smiling face in the pictures they took wondering when he suddenly started smiling.
The next day, Hong-ju gets to work as usual confused when everyone seems to be awkward around her. She is called to her boss’s office. Hong-ju’s boss tells her that she will be working with a writer for their company’s new animation project. To her shock, she finds herself looking at Joon-ho who is the author of the novel she will be working with for her project.
A flashback from 3 years ago shows Joon-ho abandoning Hong-ju without telling her where he was going. She chases after him at the airport but does not get a response from him. Present-day Hong-ju, who is still hurt by the incident, refuses to offer any help to Joon-ho and agrees to produce the animation project on her own.
Meanwhile, at the Rock Asset headquarters, Hu-yeong tells CEO Baek that he is not going to take his flight back to the USA and is extending his stay for another week. CEO Baek wonders if Hu-yeong is staying back for his first love and the two take a walk around the street.
Meanwhile, Hong-ju chats with Joon-ho at a nearby cafe after their meeting with her boss ends. Joon-ho tells Hong-ju that he is back for her and clarifies that he abruptly left the country to research for his new novel. Hong-ju tells Joon-ho that it does not matter why he is back because they are no longer together. Joon-ho argues that weren’t officially broken up which means that they were still together.
At the same time, Hu-yeong spots Hong-ju in the cafe with Joon-ho. CEO Baek tells him that the guy is Hong-ju’s ex-boyfriend who broke her heart. Hong-ju leaves the cafe and Joon-ho follows after her as they run into CEO Baek and Hu-yeong. Joon-ho tries to grab her hand, to coax her into talking to him but she pulls it away.
Hu-yeong intervenes in the conversation and grabs Hong-ju’s hand pretending to be her boyfriend. Hong-ju uses the opportunity and walks away hand-in-hand with Hu-yeong.
The episode ends with an epilogue where a younger Hu-yeong consoles Hong-ju with ramen when she is sad about Joon-ho’s military enlistment. He teases her telling her that he will report her for dating a soldier.
The tension between the two leads are palpable. Hu Yeong is aggressively letting his feelings show and Hong ju is choosing to ignore it. Meanwhile, Joon ho is a cocky jerk who believes he can do whatever he wants with Hong ju’s feelings but he will clearly see that he now has a competitor. As for our cute Hye Ji, it seems there is a potential love interest for her and it may not be Sang pil. Anyway, it was a nice recap. Stay tuned for more.
