While in her mother’s room, Wan soo gets a flashback to when her mother Chun-hee left her to fend for herself after loan sharks came to their house looking for her, we come back to the present when her mother finally wakes but is unable to recognise her, telling Wan-soo to call her daughter, a pro golfer so that she can apologise to her. Wan soo gets angry and asks why she is apologising. Chun hee responds that she is guilty for squandering all her daughter’s hard earned money. For a brief moment, she seems to recognise her and after apologising to her for the last time, Chun-hee passes away, leaving Wan-soo to be left heartbroken and distraught. Do yoon leaves she and her brother alone. Her brother tells her to go home and that he will give their mother a quiet burial as Chairwoman Park had ordered.
At home, however, Mi-ran is unsympathetic to Wan-soo’s plight and forces her to attend a meeting instead of taking time to grieve her mother’s death. When Wan soo refuses, she threatens to have her brother locked away just like she did to her mother so Wan soo has no choice. Her brother cremates their mother’s ashes and someone captures him sitting outside the funeral home alone with his mother’s ashes. While Wan soo has to attend the meeting to help consolidate her brother in law Yong min’s wife’s family cosmetic business with a chineses associate. When she returns home, she fetches her mother’s ashes and leaves with Do-yoon’s help. Mr Park panics because their whereabouts is unknown since they had switched off their phones and turned off their GPS location. As for Yong kook, he completely freaks out thinking that Wan soo and Do yoon are having an affair.
Meanwhile, Wan soo goes to her old home from when she was a young girl that no one knows about to find some peace and grieve properly. There, she shares her heartbreak with Do-yoon who at first tries to refrain from touching her but eventually cannot resist, letting her rest her head against his shoulders but neither of them is aware that someone is tailing Wan-soo and taking pictures of her.
Wansoo then goes to the river with Do yoon on a boat where she spreads her mother’s ashes. However, Chair woman Park looks over the pictures that the mysterious man had sent her, including the ones where Wan-soo is hugging and crying with Do-yoon.
When Wan-soo arrives back home later, Yong-kook is extremely angry and punches Do yoon before firing him. His mother calls him later, upset that he let his weakness show, more concerned that the two are having an affair than the fact that Wan soo’s mother just died because that is what he always does. She hits him several times and insists he apologize. She tells Mr Park to tender her son’s apology to Do yoon on his behalf.
However, Wan-soo decides to visit Do-yoon later that night, and he straight up asks her to be his woman and questions why she keeps hurting herself. She, in turn, asks him to be her man and stand by her side. She tells him she needs him but he has to earn her trust, further asking him to show her proof that someone from her family is connected to all the deaths around them.
Meanwhile, Chairwoman Park tells Yong-kook that the only way for Wan-soo to leave the family alone and not destroy their reputation is for her to die and she promises to kill her just as she got rid of Ko Jin-hee, his celebrity girlfriend who died from a drug overdoes. Meanwhile, Do-yoon tells Wan-soo about everything that he knows about the Chairman’s death and she continues to prod him to learn more before making any rash decisions. Mr Park suddenly enters shocked to see them together but Wan soo acts like they aren’t doing anything suspicious, lying that she only came to give Do yoon footage from her shooting at manila. When she leaves, she hears Mr Park shout at Do yoon. Mr Park is angry that Do yoon left without informing anyone but Do yoon flares up, citing that he is a human being. She had just lost her mother and he couldn’t be heartless by refusing to help.
That night, he heads out to the gambling den he first saw Mr Park at to get more information – however, his plan seems to be something else. After showing his face to the CCTV cameras, he is asked to leave and the footage lands on Mr Park’s phone, shocking him. Meanwhile, Wan-soo gets an idea to fudge the deal between Cosmo Cosmetics and China and rushes out to hold a meeting and Do-yoon confronts Mr Park about his whereabouts in Manila. He accuses him of having a hand in Ju hyuk’s death but Mr Park reveals that that he was actually running a money laundering scam for the Vice Chairman.
Do yoon then asks him about the late chairman’s death and Mr Park reluctantly tells him that the reason why the chairman was found outside the home was because he died having sex with a woman resulting in a heart attack. To save his reputation, everyone lied that he died from a heart attack. However, even after hearing this, Do-yoon remains unconvinced and promises to get to the bottom of the mess.
That night, Wan-soo asks to meet him and after cleverly getting rid of housekeeper Byeon, Do yoon tells her everything. She’s uncomfortable that he let Mr Park know his suspicions and she asks him to look into Mr Han, the manager of the slush funds, as well. However, in bed, Wan-soo is unable to forget about Do yoon’s proposal to be his woman. She also can’t stop thinking about her interactions with him.
The next day, the house is in uproar after Wan soo appears in advertisements that are released on the day of Cosmo Cosmetics’ new product release. Ji-yeon, her sister in law and Yong-min are thoroughly angered with the development and confront her about it. Although Yong kook defends her against them, it seems like Wan-soo doesn’t care about anything and fears no one. As she comes back from a charity function later that day, Do-yoon finds a flock of deadly drones following them in hopes of killing Wan-soo and tries his best to dodge them.
After being followed by the drones for quite some time, Wan-soo’s car is finally hit by one of them, leaving a burning wreckage in its wake. The killer turns out to be bodyguard Lee Jin, who leaves after checking whether or not everyone is dead. However, after she drives off in a motorbike, a bleeding Do-yoon finds a way out of the burning car and takes an unconscious Wan-soo out with him. Hurt and bleeding, he falls down protecting her and all three of them including the second bodyguard are eventually rescued by emergency services.
At the hospital, it turns out that all three of them are alive but Do Yoon had to undergo a risky surgery on his back where metal had pierced him. It’s a success and Do yoon is wheeled into a room.
Meanwhile, Yong kook is with Wan soo when she eventually regains consciousness. The first thing she asks about is if Do Yoon made it out alive and this visibly upsets Yong kook who tells her that doctors call her survival a miracle considering she wasn’t injured. He is spiteful because Do Yoon risked his life for Wan soo. He tries to hold in his anger and tells her he would leave after Mr Park arrives because of paparazzi.
Tae ra and her mother tries to take advantage of the situation to get attention by telling a random reporter who she is. The reporter takes pictures of Tae ra and her mother as they pretend to be sad over Wan soo while entering the hospital.
Meanwhile, Lee jin comes to Do yoon’s private ward and tries to kill him when Yong kook enters, spoiling her plan. After taking a bitter look at Do yoon, he leaves while Lee jin is unable to complete her mission due to the cameras. She informs someone over the phone that the mission has failed. At home, lawyer Han pays the Commissioner General off so that he doesn’t investigate anything about the incident and keeps things under wraps. Meanwhile, at the hospital, a tense Wan-soo goes to meet Do-yoon, only to find the bed empty. We see him getting the CCTV footage from the crash site from a colleague, ready to dive into who could’ve tried to murder him.
Mr Park sees Yong kook with an update on his wife’s case informing him that a motorcycle driver was spotted at the scene but is yet to be identified. Yong kook doesn’t seem like he wants to talk about it as he gives Mr Park another bag full of money for him to launder at the casino. As he leaves, Mr Park recalls when Do yoon told him that he might have paid for an assasination without knowing it. Mr Park begins to suspect Yong kook.
Meanwhile, Chairwoman Park and Lawyer Han seem to also suspect Yong kook’s secret dealing but Chairwoman Park tries to defend her son. She then complains over Yong min’s refusal to take over the foundation and insults his intelligence which seems to anger Lawyer Han so much that he gives her dagger looks which causes her to get tense. (I think Yong min is lawyer Han’s son)
Meanwhile, things remain tense between Yong-min and his family as he and his wife refuse to bow down to anyone and refuse to get into business without an apology from Wan-soo. Although Lawyer Han tries to talk sense into them, they refuse to listen and keep putting their points across. It is revealed that Yong min’s wife Ji yeon even has a lover and this doesn’t sit well with Yong min but she doesn’t care because theirs is a marriage of convenience. She was even meant to marry his older brother Yong kook before the deal fell through and she ended up with Yong min thanks to lawyer Han’s intervention.
At the hospital, Wan-soo meets Do-yoon before leaving and asks him why he continues to put himself in danger for her as she cannot repay him but he explains that he is following his heart. Wan soo eventually tells him that she trusts him now. He wants to show her the footage of the incident but she doesn’t care about that. Instead, placing a hand over his injured chest and hugging him, thereby sharing a tender moment together. Before leaving, she tells him not to risk his life for her again.
At home, Wan-soo and Chairwoman Park continue to share an icy conversation. She asks her how she miraculously survived that dangerous accident, surprised that her body guard risked his life for her. She adds that it’s because they pay them well but Wan soo triggered by her statement asks if she has ever paid someone for their life to which Chair woman Park says she would soon find out. Then she instructs her to talk to Tae-ra’s half-brother who is a hedge fund manager in Hong Kong and is willing to invest in their business. Wan soo enables Tae ra and her mother to enter the house after her mother is being restricted by housekeeper Byeon. During their conversation, Wan-soo reminds Tae-ra about her boundaries and instructs her to not overdo anything so as to not get kicked out.
That night Yong Kook watches his mother enter Lawyer Han’s place with wine to reconcile. Yong kook recalls when he was young and how his mother shamelessly slept with lawyer Han in her matrimonial bed ignoring him when he begged her to stop. Instead, she claimed that his father already knew about her affair. (Now I understand why Yong kook grew to be such a perverse man)
Wan-soo later talks to Hyun-soo about getting the NOW Foundation ledgers but the two have a falling out after he asks her to stay away from this mess because both of them can end up getting arrested if anything comes out. Meanwhile, Do-yoon tries to convince Mr Park to tell him the truth about who could be trying to kill Wan-soo.
Later Do yoon is seen taking a walk. Wan soo sights him from the balcony but hides when he nearly catches her staring at him. That night, Wan-soo secretly comes over to Do-yoon’s room in order to update him about the ledgers and asks him to get them for her. The next day, Do-yoon finds a chance to break into Sang-il’s house and find the ledgers but finds many roadblocks on the way, one being a particularly invested Lee Jin who spies on him. She immediately lets Lawyer Han know that Do yoon has sneaked into his house. He then asks Lee Jin to keep an eye on everything at NOW Foundation. On the other hand, after installing a camera in Lawyer Han’s home, Do-yoon finds the ledgers just as he is about to leave empty-handed. However, it seems like Lawyer Han keeps the slush fund ledgers hidden in the safe.
Just as Do-yoon brings the ledgers back to Wan-soo at NOW Foundation, they are visited by the Prosecutor’s Office with a search and seizure warrant as well as an arrest warrant for Wan soo’s brother Hyun-soo. The situation leaves Hyun-woo and Do-yoon shocked.
Someone give me some romance! This slow burn thing and Wan soo’s straight expression…
Anyway, it’s interesting. Yong kook’s part where hw witnessed his mother’s affair from a young age really got to me. It’s no wonder he is such a mess. There is no doubt that Lawyer Han is the villain in this story but I may be wrong. Wan soo and Do yoon have insane chemistry but the actors should use it to their full potential for goodness sake!
