Black Out Episode 6 Recap

In the beginning of Episode 6, there is a scene from 10 years ago where Jeong-woo secretly covers Bo-young’s school expenses to prevent her from feeling humiliated in front of her friends. He also comes to the aid of Bo-young and Jae-hee, preventing them from getting physically assaulted by a drunk Dong-min. In the current time, Jeong-woo aids Sang-cheol in driving a group of gangsters off.

At that moment, Sang-cheol receives a message from the police informing him of Dong-min’s unexpected and unlawful discharge from jail. At that moment, Dong-min phoned Jeong-woo and invited him to come over to his place for a meeting. Sang-cheol attempts to alert Jeong-woo but he departs to see Dong-min. The police officer pursues Jeong-woo. Simultaneously, Dong-min goes into Jeong-woo’s residence carrying a firearm as Choo-ho stands guard outdoors.

Jeong-woo enters his home and attempts to converse with Dong-min. He brings to Dong-min’s attention the years of suffering Bo-young endured due to his alcoholism and Jae-hee’s domestic violence. This only increases Dong-min’s anger and he aims the gun at Jeong-woo. Jeong-woo denies killing Bo-young and requests Dong-min to shoot him. Dong-min points the gun at Jeong-woo but fails to hit him.

Sang-cheol, upon arrival at the scene, shouts for Jeong-woo. Dong-min successfully makes his way out of the house through the uncommon exit and gets into Choo-ho’s car. At the same time, Gu-tak presents Ha-seol to his younger son and Su-oh’s brother, Geon-oh. Geon-oh does not respond to Ha-seol’s greeting as she says goodbye and heads home. She’s surprised by the striking resemblance between the brothers.

Sang-cheol tends to the wound on Jeong-woo’s forehead and declares that he will remain overnight to watch over him. Geon-oh inquires with Gu-tak about Su-oh’s condition and finds out he is hospitalized following another bout of epileptic fits. Gu-tak tells Geon-ho to get out of town and warns him not to see Jeong-woo or anyone else.

Young-sil and Hyung-sik come back from dinner simultaneously. Young-sil inquires her husband regarding the alarming message and cautions him about jeopardizing her forthcoming election campaign. The following day, Sang-cheol wakes up at Jeong-woo’s place and discovers the bullet that was shot at him by Dong-min. He notices a group of children damaging Jeong-woo’s house and then chases them off.

Upon Jeong-woo’s arrival at home, Sang-cheol inquires whether he is comfortable with enduring bullying and assault from the villagers. He urges Jeong-woo to leave town, but Jeong-woo insists on staying to seek justice for his friends and mother. Jeong-woo requests Sang-cheol to reopen the case in order to obtain justice for his close friends. Sang-cheol informs Jeong-woo they must locate additional evidence to reexamine the case.

Jeong-woo sifts through old photos and shares with Sang-cheol about the bag that Bo-young always carried around in high school. The pair agrees to search for the bag. However, Gu-tak visits Geon-oh’s room and discovers bottles of alcohol. He rouses Geon-oh from sleep, urging him to go back overseas as soon as possible and never return.

Geon-oh becomes distressed after reading a news article about Bo-young’s remains. Simultaneously, Jung-sook pays off Ha-seol’s debts and terminates her employment. When Ha-seol attempts to argue, Jung-sook discloses that Gu-tak requested for her dismissal. Ha-seol goes to Gu-tak’s home and encounters a intoxicated Geon-oh. Geon-oh is taking sips from a bottle of wine and offers Ha-seol a drink, but Ha-seol declines.

He shows interest in finding out that she is Su-oh’s friend and requests a favor from Ha-seol. When Jeong-woo goes to Bo-young’s house, Jae-hee slaps him as soon as she sees him standing at the door. Following Jae-hee into the house, he requests the purple backpack she always had with her. Jae-hee informs Jeong-woo about the support she received from his mother, Geum-hee, during difficult moments in her life, but Jeong-woo tragically ended up killing her daughter.

Jae-hee was torn between expressing gratitude towards Geum-hee or harboring resentment towards her for Jeong-woo’s actions. Jeong-woo assures that he is not the one responsible for Bo-young’s death, however Jae-hee has a meltdown and urges him to depart from the city. She informs Jeong-woo that she will look after Geum-hee and requests him to depart from the town as soon as possible.

Simultaneously, Choo-ho aims to prevent Dong-min from being taken into custody. Dong-min claims that Jeong-woo will never turn him in. At the police station, Sang-cheol reads Bo-young’s autopsy report and suggests she may have been sexually assaulted due to signs of a pelvic fracture.

Hee-do suggests that the break may have had different causes and points out to Sang-cheol that the corpse had been decaying for 11 years. Sang-cheol is unhappy and brings the report to Gu-tak. He argues that the absence of underwear and broken pelvis suggest sexual misconduct.

Gu-tak consults with a forensic specialist who asserts that the information on Bo-young’s postmortem examination is not definitive to warrant a case review. Sang-cheol informs Gu-tak about Dong-min’s attempted murder of Jeong-woo and inquires about the reason for his release from jail. Gu-tak informs Sang-cheol that Dong-min’s admission was withdrawn due to being made while intoxicated.

Gu-tak urges Sang-cheol to concentrate on assisting Bo-young’s family in arranging a dignified funeral for her rather than attempting to reopen the case. Simultaneously, Jeong-woo requests assistance from Na-kyeom and Min-soo. Geon-oh departs from his house to rendezvous with Jeong-woo and becomes overwhelmed upon witnessing the damage done to his home. Meanwhile, Young-sil requests her secretary to assist in identifying the person who sent the threatening messages to Hyung-sik.

In the hospital, Ha-seol encounters Hyung-sik and requests to visit Su-oh. When Ha-seol mentions that she resides at the Muchen Garden restaurant, memories of his previous talks with Da-eun resurface for Hyung-sik. After Ha-seol exits the doctor’s cabin, Hyung-sik receives another message from the person he harmed, claiming that he murdered her 11 years ago.

Hyung-sik suspects that Ha-seol is the one who sent the text and suggests that she come see him that night. Min-soo joins his parents and Dong-min for a meal while attempting to locate Bo-young’s backpack. Geon-oh goes to Byeong-moo’s home and encounters his father, Heung-soo. He tells Heung-soo to bring Byeong-moo back, and he does so reluctantly.

On the other hand, Sang-cheol talks to the high school teachers and inquires about Bo-young or Da-eun. He meets Jeong-woo there, who is also attempting to communicate with his teachers. Sang-cheol informs Jeong-woo that they were running out of time to have the case reopened before Bo-young’s funeral.

Byeong-moo arrives at the restaurant accompanied by Jae-hee. He requests Dong-min to hasten Bo-young’s funeral, but Heung-soo appears and attempts to pull Byeong-moo away before Geon-oh gets there. Geon-oh arrives promptly and discusses Bo-young’s death with Dong-min at that moment. Apologizing for his delay, he stops himself from speaking further as Min-soo and Byeong-moo attempt to prevent it.

Geon-oh begins to laugh and they escort him out of the restaurant. He expresses his happiness with Min-soo and Byeong-moo’s accomplishments before departing. Inside the restaurant, Choo-ho urges Heung-soo to stay composed and pretend like nothing occurred in order to avoid Dong-min’s suspicions. Gu-tak attempts to purchase a plane ticket for Geon-oh to return to the USA, only to find out that Geon-oh is not allowed to leave the country due to being caught in a drug dealing incident.

Jeong-woo arrives at Gu-tak’s office and requests a recap of the case. Gu-tak informs that the wrench used to murder Da-eun was discovered in Jeong-woo’s room and his shoes contain blood and mud, indicating he departed the house amidst heavy rainfall on that night. Jeong-woo informs Gu-tak that he never put on the shoes given to him by his mother. He inquires about the purple backpack belonging to Bo-young.

Jeong-woo surprises Gu-tak by inquiring about Su-oh and Geon-oh’s activities on the night of the killings. Hee-do becomes angry and forcefully removes Jeong-woo from the station. Meanwhile, Sang-cheol attempts to have a private conversation with the homeroom teacher. He finds out that Jeong-woo was not only a hardworking student but also a great friend to Bo-young.

Later that night, Young-sil’s assistant tails Hyung-sik as he drives Ha-seol in his vehicle. At the same time, Geon-oh heads to the greenhouse and searches for an item hidden in one of the potted plants. He discovers a suitcase and brings it to Jeong-woo’s residence. Simultaneously, Gu-tak discovers the absence of the suitcase in the greenhouse and requests Choo-ho and Heung-soo to search for Geon-oh.

On the other hand. Geon-oh enters the house of Jeong-woo and expresses his apologies to him. He indicates the suitcase where Jeong-woo discovers the purple one. The episode concludes with Jeong-woo questioning Geon-oh about whether he is responsible for Bo-young’s death.

So this drama’s intrigue is just getting bigger and bigger. There are so much to unpack especially with Geon Ho’s appearance. However, we shall see as the series progresses.
