Meanwhile, Myung Yoon is waiting outside of their meeting room when Gap seok approaches, asking why she’s spying but Myung Yoon asks him why Lee Gun was deposed. Gap seok refuses, telling her to ask her master or mistress.

All of a sudden, the commander of the royal guards and his men arrive to arrest Lee Gun bringing with them a royal edict but to their shock, he presents to them the royal seal which the queen had secretly given him through Dosung. Due to this, the royal edict is fake. The royal guards commander and his men are rounded up and sent away.

Lee Gun, his grandfather and Myung Yoon have lunch together. However, Myung Yoon’s conscience keeps hitting her hard. His grandfather is impressed with her knowledge of medicine and Lee Gun praises her as well.

Later, under the guise of dressing his wounds, Lee Gun speaks with Myung Yoon in private, apologising for not exposing his true identity to her this whole time. Myung Yoon apologises for treating him disrespectfully but Lee Gun has nothing against her especially since she saved his life. He assures her that although he would take revenge against Lord Choi and his family, he would spare her. However, this only ends up hurting Myung Yoon deeply.

The king’s condition is worsening so Dosung pleads with Lord Choi and the queen dowager for help, accepting to become the crown prince and do everything they ask as long as they save the king. However, they are worried about Lee Gun’s return but he tells them he would ensure he never returns to the palace.

They agree to help and go to the king’s room. The queen dowager has the queen taken away and even Dosung can do nothing about it. Lord Choi starts treating the king and he stabilizes.

Dosung then goes to his mother to tell her the news and she’s happy but when he announces that he would become the crown prince, she rejects the idea. Dosung is upset especially after figuring out she gave Lee Gun the royal seal. Although, he isn’t upset that she gave Lee Gun the seal, he’s upset that she hid the information from him. The queen tries to stop him but he has made up his mind. When he leaves, the queen’s court lady advises her to tell Dosung the truth but she can not bear to reveal that his grandfather plans to kill his father once he becomes the crown prince.

Bothered by Myung Yoon’s sad expression, Lee Gun goes to see her that night and asks her to tell him her problem. It is then that she reveals her real identity, that she is Lord Choi’s daughter and that she helped him because she wanted make up for what her father had done to him.

Lee Gun is struck by her confession and extremely disappointed. He cannot fault her for her father’s misdeeds but it’s just the fact that she is Lord Choi’s daughter that makes it hard to forgive her. He tells her he is going to take her to Hannam the next day so they can go their seperate ways. But that night, memories of their time together torments him.

Early the next morning, he goes to her room to speak with her but she’s gone. Meanwhile, Myung yoon has met with Mo Baek. She agrees to come back with him on the condition that he doesn’t go after Lee Gun. Mo Baek tells her she’s his first priority so he would do what she wants.

Lord Choi has gotten a lead against left councillor, an anonymous letter informing him that Left councillor’s grandmother was actually a slave who disguised as her master’s daughter after the war and married into a noble family. In their era, people are descendents of the matriarchal line which means, the left councillor, the Queen and Dosung are all slaves. With this, they can stop him from plotting against them.

Meanwhile, the magistrate tells Left councillor that Lord Choi is looking into his family, especially his maternal grandmother. Seeing his uncomfortable reaction makes the magistrate suspicious. However, they are unaware that the tip was sent by Lee Gun’s grandfather who had prepared this in case Left councillor tried to stop Lee Gun from becoming king. Lee Gun thanks him and his uncle for all their help hoping to meet them at his next destination, Hanang.

On their way, Gap seok asks about Myung Yoon but Lee Gun refuses to talk about her. When Lord Choi learns from Moo Baek that Myung Yoon now knows Lee Gun is the deposed crown prince, he gets worried. He speaks with Myung Yoon once she returns, insisting that he wants her to be crown princess by marrying Dosung. Myung Yoon is against it especially after what happened with his brother. However, Lord Choi tells her that Dosung would still marry her because he was in love with her.

Myung Yoon cries alone, refusing Oh wol’s company leaving her to wonder why she’s in such a bad mood.

Dosung eventually convinces his mother to support him.

The Queen dowager’s court maid lady Kim informs Lord Choi that the Queen dowager feels down and has not been eating her meals. She pleads with him to suggest she take some fresh air outside. Lord Choi successfully convinces the Queen Dowager.

After hearing of this, left state councillor hires a man to assassinate the queen dowager on her way in exchange for saving his daughter from being sold into slavery. He gives him a gun which he would use to shoot her. The queen dowager is accompanied by her maids and escorts including Lord Choi and Left state councillor. She stops by a temple to pray. Afterwards, she asks Lady Kim when the temporary palace would be fully built. She can’t wait to leave the palace and be near her dead son. Lady Kim replies it would soon be completed. However, as she’s returning to her entourage, Lord Choi notices the gun pointed at her from a distance. The assasin shoots but Lord Choi takes the bullet. The queen dowager panics upon seeing him unconscious with blood rushing from his wounds.

Left state councillor is angry at his failed assassination attempt and pretends to worry but the queen dowager faces him angrily, accusing him of being responsible.

The End.
