Missing Crown Prince Episode 4 Recap

Despite himself, Lee Gun allows Myung Yoon to take him away to the gisaeng house. She gives him medicine and he gets upset when she insists that she only came to help because her mistress told her to and not out of her free will.

She returns home and her father Lord Choi who is aware of what she did asks her where she kept Lee Gun. She refuses to tell him purely because she doesn’t want her father’s hand to keep being stained with blood. When he tells her she is to become the Crown princess, she reminds him she has already shared a bed with another man, how could she bear to decieve the crown prince. Lord Shin is so annoyed that he sends away but she tells him her mind regardless, that she only wishes to stay with him to heal people.

That night, she confides her worries in Oh wol while Lord Choi tells Moo Beok not to follow Myung Yoon until she has laid down her guard and thinks no one would be watching her. This way, they would find out where Prince Lee Gun could be hiding.

The next day, the king’s enunch (the one who tried to assassinate Lee Gun) approaches the king during his morning walk and tells him that the royal chief secretary is dead. (The king had planned to use him to gather more army and had only told Dosung)

He summons Dosung and asks if he told anyone else about his plan with the Royal secretary. Dosung fearfully admits he had told his mother because of how nervous she was. The king now understands that his grandfather must have known and killed the royal chief secretary. Dosung wastes no time in confronting his grandfather while he’s with the Queen and his mother and he admits it, saying he only agreed to do the queen dowager’s bidding in order to protect Dosung and his mother after the queen dowager threatened to kill them. His only purpose is keeping them safe and he says that once Dosung becomes king, they could easily eliminate her.

Meanwhile, Lee Gun is waiting for Myung Yoon’s return although he tries to hide it from Gap Seok who can easily see through him. Myung Yoon sets out to see Lee Gun, unaware that she’s been followed by Moo Beok. On her way, she’s stopped by Dosung who expresses his feelings for her but she rejects him, telling him she’s about to marry someone else. Dosung is frozen in shock after hearing this. He follows Myung Yoon to where she pretends to care for a female prostitute. But all the while Lord Choi sees them. After sometime, Dosung leaves, Thinking the coast is clear, Myung Yoon sets out again to see Lee Gun, unaware that she’s been followed by Ma Beok. Just as she reaches his room, Ma Beok accosts her. He quickly opens the door but finds it empty leaving both him and Myung Yoon surprised.

Ma Beok returns to Lord Choi to apologise for not finding Lee Gun. However, Lord shi has another plan up his sleeve. He visits Dosung privately where he’s drinking to ward off his heart break. They exchange pleasantries and Lord Choi goes straight to the point and asks if he had feelings for his daughter Myung Yoon.

Meanwhile, Myung Yoon lingers in Lee Gun’s room, visibly upset that he left without telling her. She tries to hold back her feelings of concern towards him and decides to wait and see if he returns.

However, Lee Gun had secretly met with Sang Soo, his eunuch who had stabbed him and he apologises profusely for what he did. Lee Gun decides to forgive him as long as he tells him what he wants to know. Sang Soo tells him that the Royal secretary is dead and that the queen nearly got poisoned. He also suspects the left councilor, Prince Dosung’s grandfather, is now working with the queen dowager. He then tells her the most shocking one, that the queen dowager still met with a man at Buyong hall and that it was the Court lady who had first sent him the anonymous message that discovered this. He tells Lee Gun that many people don’t like the queen dowager and that they only follow her orders because they are afraid of what she might do to them so they all act like they obey her.

The next scene shows Lord Choi attending to the Queen Dowager when she suddenly gets overwhelmed with emotions as she’s reminded of Lee Gun’s harsh words towards her. To everyone’s shock, she sends them all away requesting to be alone with Lord Choi. The court lady who is appalled by this, warns the other maids to be quiet about this but for some reason, she secretly cries. (Now, that’s suspicious)

Lord Choi gets close to the Queen Dowager and she admits she’s tired of everything and urges them to run away but Lord Choi tries to make her see the consequences of her decision, they would be haunted and killed but the Queen Dowager doesn’t care as long as she can live even a day as his wife. Lord Choi tells her of his plan to make Dosung the crown prince. The queen dowager isn’t sure he would be loyal to them but Lord Choi replies that when a man is in love, he would abandon anything. Same with Dosung who is in love with his daughter. For her, he would even stab his brother Lee Gun in the back.

That night, Lee Gun is surprised to find Myung Yoon waiting for him in his room at the gisaeng house. He seems amused to watch her get angry at him for leaving without telling her. He then asks her permission to leave again although she nearly beats him for it. In the end, the two of them along with Gap seok go to Heo sin joo’s burial. While Gap Seok distracts the family by acting like a mourner, Lee Gun and Myung Yoon secretly enter the place where Heo sin joo’s body is kept and Myung Yoon performs an autopsy where they discover that Heo sin Joo was actually poisoned.

The next day, Lee Gun decides to get Dosung’s help although Gap seok is against it due to his safety. Lee Gun insists and the two meet at a secluded cave which is their usual meeting spot. Dosung gets angry with Lee Gun for not contacting him throughout this time but Dosung questions if he’s still on his side after hearing his grandfather has joined hands with the Queen Dowager. He even shows him his stab wound, a result of trusting people but Lee Gun declares he could even give his life for him. Satisfied with his response, Lee Gun tells him what he knows, that he has discovered Lord Choi is the queen dowager’s lover due to all the coincidences especially with Heo sin joo’s death. They were the only two physicians allowed in the Queen Dowager’s Chambers. Dosung thinks they need more evidence. However, Lee Gun instructs him to head over to the Royal infirmary and gather the officials.

Meanwhile, Lord Choi and the queen dowager discover the king is planning to rally his soldiers. Knowing they can’t defeat him due to his military prowess, they decide to use their last resort. The queen dowager summons the queen and asks for her help. She admits she has a lover, a man who was engaged to be her husband before she married the late king. After they met again, they resumed their affair and now, she only wants to leave the palace to be with him. She begs the Queen to talk to the king on her behalf, to let her leave the palace. The Queen, pitying her, tells her that due to the king’s suspicions of her father, he no longer trusts her so the queen dowager suggests there is another way.

The queen meets the king to give him the food she had prepared. The king who is a bit untrusting at first, lets down his guard and agrees. The food taster comes to eat the food but while they aren’t looking, pretends to eat a fish. (These people are so dumb) Seeing everything is fine and the food is poison free, the Queen urges the king to eat.

Meanwhile, Lee Gun meets Lord Choi and confronts him over his affair with the queen dowager. Shockingly, he doesn’t deny it and admits he’s her lover. That she was his before she married the late king and she would always be his. Roused to anger by his shamelessness, Lee Gun threatens to behead the two of them and throw their flesh to the wolves but Lord Choi seems nonchalant.

They come out with Gap seok and meet Dosung who is waiting outside with the officers from the Royal infirmary. Thinking they are here to arrest Lord Choi, their leader suddenly declares that Lee Gun is a traitor. Lee Gun looks at Dosung in disbelief and he turns his face away, a signal that he has betrayed him.

Myung Yoon is heading back home when she sees Lee Gun tied and kept in a cage as he’s led away by officers. She cannot believe her eyes. The episode ends.
