Miss Night And Day Episodes 1-2 Recaps

In the first episode, we meet Lee Mi-jin, a government job hopeful who studies diligently every night in order to succeed in her exams. Despite consistently excelling in written exams, she frequently struggles in interviews, often appearing to be held back by her age.

Following her eighth failed interview, she goes back to her family, who celebrate her victory believing she got the job but instead it’s another candidate with the same name. Feeling crushed by her circumstances, Mi-jin encounters a man who had offered her his contact information, stating that he can assist her in choosing through a referral system. She hands over her bankbook and papers to him, but a stranger interrupts, pointing him out as a fraudster. While the scammer flees desperately, followed closely by the stranger and with Mi-jin’s outcry in the background, he is ultimately apprehended by the authorities.

The unknown person assists Mi-jin in reaching the police station. It was discovered that Mi-jin had utilized her family’s emergency funds to compensate the con artist and cannot promptly retrieve the money as it was transferred to a disposable account. Additionally, she admits to handing over her bankbook to the man, and was warned by the officer that if this is linked to a phishing scam, the victim which is hercould quickly become the culprit. And this is how she ends up facing two problems.

In another place, we realize the unknown person who helped her is Gye Ji-ung, a meticulous prosecutor, who realizes that he accidentally switched his case file with Mi-jin’s resume while assisting her. When he contacts Mi-jin, she confuses him for a different scammer and proceeds to curse him creatively before blocking his number. Upon arriving at home, Mi-jin encounters a cat that appears to have mystical qualities, feeds it milk, and remarks that it hopes it can find a wealthy owner who is well-compensated and provides it with high-quality organic meals.

Having done this, she returns to her room, sets fire to all her study materials, and indulges in alcohol until she passes out, reflecting on the hours she spent studying diligently for the exam, only to be left penniless and unemployed. While drinking, Mi-jin jumps into a well to rescue the magical cat that had jumped in. Time comes to a halt and then goes backwards. The following day, Mi-jin awakens inhabiting the form of a woman who is 50 years old.

Her family fails to identify her and pushes her out of the house while the police arrest her, despite the old woman insisting she is Mi-jin. Their conclusion is that her mental stability is in question, and Mi-jin manages to get away with the officer in pursuit. While attempting to escape from him, the sun goes down and she goes back to her own physical form. She comes back to her house and determines that the sun could be responsible for her abrupt change. The following day, despite all her attempts, she undergoes another transformation, this time barricading herself in to avoid being pursued in public.

Believing the cat is connected to the strange situation, she quietly leaves the house and goes to the vet clinic where she had rushed after the cat fell down the well. However, upon her arrival, she discovers that the cat had gotten away. At the same time, the enchanted cat materializes in a room featuring a poster displaying the image of a person named Lim Sun who is missing.

The following day, while Ji-ung is dealing with a legal case involving celebrity Ko Won, it is revealed that he becomes a cranky, sharp-tongued perfectionist while working. In the meantime, Mi-jin goes to a plastic surgery clinic and seeks help from a shaman to reverse the curse, but she is unable to find relief.

This is the moment she discovers a public service announcement for seniors and attends the interview where she not only succeeds but excels thanks to her levels of energy comparable to someone in their 20s. She finally lands a job while Ji-ung is transferred to her town as he investigates a missing person case.

At the start of episode 2 Mi-jin envisions a cat that resembles her aunt Lim Sun’s former pet. While exploring the attic, Mi-jin comes across a sad missing person poster of her aunt, indicating that her aunt disappeared many years ago and her mother had put forth all efforts to locate her without success.

Afterwards, Mi-jin departs ahead of time for her position at the prosecutor’s office, where she is employed as a janitor. While happily cleaning and dancing to music, she encounters Gye Ji-ung at his new workplace. She is so shocked to see him, she almost trips over herself. He catches her in time but in the process, her hand hits a cactus. It’s extremely painful. She asks what he is doing there but he responds that she’s in his officer and that he is a prosecutor.

As predicted, he appears distant and indifferent in his professional demeanor which he claims leads to frequent resignations among his workers. While Mi-jin’s father and the landlord, who is also a real estate agent, are having a meal, Ji-ung stops by to find a new apartment to move into quickly.

Following some strange inquiries about Ji-ung’s belief in ghosts, the agent presents him with a creepy apartment that he promptly agrees to rent as he can move in right away. Ji-ung realizes the house is haunted when he has dreams of a murder and the bathroom light keeps turning on.

The following day, Ji-ung surveys the region and it’s evident that he has a personal agenda. Afterwards, we meet the senior employees and get to know their individual eccentric traits.

Mal-tae is employed for his background as a past police officer, assigned to look into the incident of a discarded cigarette and point fingers at a colleague, the alleged Gwang-seok who was brought in through a referral and is known for his lack of shame.

While struggling to grab the cigarette case, Na-heun, the traditional disability hire, falls down as they continue to argue. Ok-hui, a nepotism hire and bystander to the fistfight, is considered ‘pretty but dumb’ while Lim Sun, the top applicant with incredible stamina, arrives at the scene to stop the fight. In the end, they reconcile when the guilty party agrees to take care of the others in return for not being turned in for a penalty.

During his legal battles and media scrutiny, celebrity Ko Won chooses to step away for two years and ultimately ends up serving the public alongside Ji-ung and Mi-jin.

While speaking to the press, a shady individual splashes him with a liquid as Mi-jin pushes him. Right before the acid-like liquid was going to hit her, Ji-ung elegantly comes to the rescue with his umbrella, shielding Mi-jin (Lim Sun). She and the onlookers admire him greatly until another attorney bursts their bubble by revealing how challenging Ji-ung is while working.

Afterward, due to being blocked, Ji-ung goes to Mi-jin’s house to collect his document and give back her resume. Mi-jin hurries home and sits tight until sunset to see Ji-ung. She attempts to locate the document but recalls that she had destroyed them in a fire.

The two of them continue to search for it at a used bookstore where she previously sold the item. However, things get quite tense between them when Ji ung saves Mi Jin from falling books, securely wrapping her in his arms. Afrerwards, it gets kinda awkward as he clips her torn shirt. Mi Jin then tells him about her life and all she has endured.

After searching for some time, Mi jin does manage to locate the documents; however, Ji-ung had already left to handle an urgent issue. A murder has occurred a considerable distance from Ji-un’s residence.

Upon arriving at the crime scene, Ji-ung notices that the blood is recently fresh and, upon further investigation, suspects that the perpetrator could be in hiding. In a scene from the past, it is shown that his mother was killed in a similar event, which could be the reason for his return to the town. It proves to be correct, and Ji-ung pursues him while informing the police in the vicinity.

When he gets Mi-jin’s message that she’s leaving, he hurries to her knowing she’s in danger.

On her way back by herself, Mi-jin sneaks a look at the document and discovers several pages filled with reports of missing women. This is the moment Ji-ung witnesses Mi-jin and the perpetrator approaching her in a vehicle.  As he closes in on her, the episode ends with Mi-jin’s shocked expression and the documents falling on the road.

The first two episodes are quite cute. It’s a bit predictable but it’s a promising plot. I just know I’m going to enjoy it thoroughly. Well, I hope.
