Before the incident, Han Bom had promised Ki Joo to throw him a birthday party. However, it seems all that planning would come to nothing as he’s face to face with detective Lee Seon ho, the person who killed his uncle. Lee Seon ho reveals that he had always felt unsettled whenever he saw him but after seeing the missing person poster of his uncle, he finally understood why he felt that way. He recalls sarcastically to Ki Joo, how everything went down. He was drunk driving with Hyeong il and Seong taek, the two men involved in the vacation home murder. They were all drunk but he was the one driving and ended up causing Han Bom and her parents tragic accident. When he got out to check if they died, he panicked and dropped his phone when Han Bom’s mother held onto his leg.
He drove away but the other two who were more regretful pleaded with him to call 911 but he told them they would all go in for it if the truth came to light. Returning to get back his phone, he saw Ki Joo’s uncle. Desperate not to leave anyone alive as a witness, he ran into him with his car and he fell into a ditch.
Years later, after going to jail for his crime, Hyeong il and Seong taek met him to ask for financial help and that was when he decided to kill them by telling them they could rob the vacation home. However, they had to bring someone to take the fall for them. That was where Kim Yoon Cheol came in. The two arrived and he poisoned them with sleeping medicine he put in expensive alcohol. Just as they woke up, he killed them by hitting their skulls with a hammer. After that, he texted Yoon Cheol with one of their phones, asking for assistance in packing the money and that was how he was set up.
Unfortunately for him, the vacation home manager Kim Seong Soo had seen him escaping through the back door after the murder he committed and started asking him for money to keep his mouth sealed. So one day, he decided to kill him by inviting him to his apartment. He tried strangling him but Kim Seong Soo seemed to relent in not dying. That was when he suddenly a heard a voice in his ear telling him he would assist in killing him. Right before his eyes, he saw Kim Seong Soo being lifted in the air and strangled to death. Then the shadow of death appeared in front of Lee Seon ho, saying they would kill everyone that stood in their way together. He then possesses him.
Ki Joo is in shock after hearing this. Detective Lee then tells him it’s his turn to die. He brings out a knife and the two start fighting but due to being possessed, Lee Seon ho gets the upper hand and ends up stabbing Ki Joo in the stomach but despite that, Ki Joo manages to get out of the apartment but he’s losing blood fast. Lee Seon ho takes his time going after him but Ki Joo ends up in a public place leaving Lee Seon ho to halt his pursuit. That’s when Ki Joo ends up in the hospital fighting for his life
Ki Joo’s spirit appears to Han Bom to apologise after telling her everything but she cries uncontrollably. Meanwhile, the shadow of death enters the studio having possessed Detective Lee. His main purpose is to get the camera but when he tries grabbing it, he can’t and finds himself outside. He tries to enter again but the studio disappears. It’s only a blank wall before him. That’s when he and Lee Seon ho realises that Ki Joo is still alive.
Later, Ki Joo himself tries to enter the Studio but he’s ejected out, meaning he would have to use his real body. Plus he gets saddened at the fact that he can’t touch anything. He goes to the hospital where Seung Hoon and Baek Nam are delighted to see him. Although Baek Nam ku slaps him to ensure if he’s alright. Turns out he feels pain and that’s because he’s still alive. The three discuss about exposing Lee Seon ho’s crime. Ki Joo wants to investigate Lee Seon ho’s apartment alone but he also wants the other two to protect Han Bom. However, Han appears, encouraging the three to go together. Since she has the safe zone, she would be fine. Ki Joo reluctantly agree.
However, Lee Seon ho pays a sudden visit disrupting the protective charms Han Bom had put on the door. Knowing his intention, she sends him out but he overpowers her, heading straight to kill Lee Seon ho. However, Ji won and Lee Seon ho’s partner detective enter at that moment unknowingly saving her.
But they aren’t able to sense something was wrong moments ago because Lee Seon ho pretended perfectly. His partner asks some questions and finally leaves with Lee Seon ho. On their way, he talks about the investigation and produces a phone belonging to Kim Seong Soo but Lee Seon ho snatches it away saying he would investigate the phone himself.
Han Bom expresses her fear of Ki Joo dying to Ji won who finally reveals she had cancer but got cured. Han Bom is so worried but relieved and Ji won tells her Ki Joo would pull through like she did. Meanwhile, Seung Hoon posseses a woman’s body and leads the police to Lee Seon ho’s house. But the police refuse to check the apartment after realizing Lee Seon ho is a detective. They leave much to Seung Hoon’s dismay. But suddenly, Lee Seon ho and the Shadow of Death attack him till he ejects from the woman’s body. The shadow of death warns him that if he exposes them, he would be the first person he would come for.
Seung Hoon reports this to Ki Joo in fear. Ki Joo says he meant for Seung Hoon to get caught because it would make Lee Seon ho agitated thinking he’s been watched and try to get rid of Kim Seong Soo’s body. They are both watching his apartment building CCTV camera and soon notice Lee Seon ho moving a large bag out of his apartment. They think it’s Kim Seong Soo’s corpse. Seung hoon and Baek Nam ku follow him to the police station and open his car booth where he had kept the bag. After they check it, they are shocked to discover there’s no body, only clothes.
Meanwhile after investigating Lee Seon ho’s apartment, Ki Joo goes to the hospital to spend time with Han Bom. She hugs him even though their bodies can’t touch. She then tells him to help her fall asleep. They lie down together and she promises to throw him a lavish birthday before falling asleep. He tells Han Bom he loves her just in case he dies. (While she’s sleeping? Why can’t you say it when she’s wide awake? Men!)

(Their part just vexes me so much. I don’t know whether the writers are trying to tell us cheating because you’re lonely is okay. Nothing about it is okay!!! Also the fact that they let one of my favorite actresses Han groo act this part after her long awaited comeback since getting married and having her twins is downright disrespectful)
Deep breaths. Let’s continue. This hassle won’t spoil my love for the drama.
Now, Lee Seon ho and his partner head to Ki Joo’s studio where they discover Kim Seong Soo’s corpse in a suitcase. Lee Seon ho actually brought it there to frame Han Bom. The police arrest her and not long after she is taken away, Ki Joo can feel himself fading off. Seung Hoon rushes to let him know he has just entered emergency surgery.
Lee Seon ho and his partner question Han Bom but when his partner leaves briefly, he showcases his maniac behavior mocking Han Bom about how he would frame her for Kim Seong Soo’s murder like he did to Kim Yoon Cheol. Han Bom yells at him and he nearly strangles her under the power of the shadow of death, determined to kill her but his partner returns and he pretends everything is fine, lying that Han Bom was only being nervous. Lee Seon ho then heads back to the hospital and starts searching everywhere like a crazed man until he’s stopped and escorted out by security.
It turned out Seung Hoon had possessed the body of the hospital director and had Ki Joo’s body moved to the vip ward. That way, he would be protected at least temporarily. However, they have to find evidence to free Han Bom so Ki Joo comes up with an idea. He and others summon all the desperate ghosts promising to open the gate of the dead to anyone who is able to find footage of Lee Seon ho placing Kim Seong Soo’s dead body in his Studio.
They receive plenty of footages and search for a while. Meanwhile, Han Bom tries to convince Lee Seon ho’s partner that he’s the culprit. Of course he doesn’t believe her until she tells him to check Kim Seong Soo’s call records which Lee Seon ho had told him nothing was there.

Finally, Seung Hoon gets surveillance footage from a ghost that lives near the studio. The video of Lee Seon ho moving the dead body into the Studio was captured from a taxi cab that is always parked near there. Meanwhile, Lee Seon ho meets his father Prosecutor Lee at his office asking why he hasn’t prosecuted Han Bom yet. He tells him he did a sloppy job covering up his crimes which is why he had to clean them up himself. That’s when prosecutor Lee realises he killed Kim Seong Soo. He gives Lee Seon ho two dirty slaps shouting that he would cut ties with him and never cover up for him again. But the shadow of death takes over and Lee Seon ho squeezes his father’s neck but he realizes himself soon and runs away but not before the evil spirit tells Prosecutor Lee to cooperate or risk losing his son.
Burdened by Han Bom’s words, Lee Seon ho’s partner checks Kim Seong Soo’s call logs and realizes that Han Bom spoke the truth. Lee Seon ho had actually spoken to Kim Seong Soo before his death. Suddenly, he receives a video from an anonymous sender and gets astonished upon seeing Lee Seon ho in the video dragging the suitcase that had Kim Seong Soo’s corpse into Ki Joo’s Studio
Lee Seon ho checks the security footage in the hospital and discovers Ki Joo was kept in the VIP ward. Like someone who has lost his mind, he heads over there attacking all the security men that stand in his way. He eventually enters the ward thinking Seung Hoon is alone with Ki Joo only to be cramped by the police who had hidden in the room.
They all point their guns at him including his partner as they warn him to surrender but he escapes and takes Han Bom who had just entered after being released hostage. He drags her to the rooftop, determined to kill her as he says everything is her fault. If it weren’t for her, she would have killed Ki Joo long ago.
Ki Joo arrives pleading with Lee Seon ho to spare Han Bom. Unfortunately, he’s a ghost so there’s nothing much he can do. The police surround Lee Seon ho with guns but Lee Seon ho is already possessed by the shadow of death and can’t leave Han Bom. He tries to stab her with his knife but his partner shoots him on the arm. They think he is dead but he gets up again and grabs Han Bom to jump off the roof with her. But Ki Joo, who had found it difficult to grab things, grabs Han Bom, saving her. The safe zone appears ejecting the shadow of death from Lee Seon ho’s body as he falls to his death.
Everyone is surprised to see Han Bom dangling in mid air. Ki Joo pulls her back up and they hug but right in her arms, he vanishes leaving Han Bom and the others to think that Ki joo is dead since that day is his birthday.
