In episode 5 and 6 of “Love is Poison”, Haruto returns home and immediately senses Shiba’s jealousy when he mentions his lateness. To calm Shiba, Haruto embraces him from behind, reassuring him that his heart belongs to him and that he would never cheat.
Thanks to Haruto’s investigation, Shiba uncovers that Maki, has been selling company secrets to a rival and blackmailing the managing director. Both Maki and the director are fired, marking yet another victory for Shiba at his law firm.
Shiba’s next case involves a New York auto parts dealer, and the CEO promises him greater prestige if he wins quickly. However, Shiba finds it difficult to focus, as Haruto constantly occupies his thoughts. Meanwhile, Kazama, who notices Shiba is in love, teases him by offering an energy drink, comparing it to the power of love. Shiba, determined to suppress his feelings for Haruto, buries himself in his work.
One night, Haruto visits Shiba with food and fresh clothes. Shiba tries to resist, considering Haruto as his “poison”, but eventually gives in, allowing Haruto to feed him. After Haruto leaves, Shiba feels unexpectedly energized, leading him to believe that love might be the ultimate motivator. This breakthrough helps him advance in his case.
While chatting with Kazama at a bar, Shiba learns about a lawyer who lost everything because he fell for the wrong person. Determined to avoid this fate, Shiba decides to end his feelings for Haruto, viewing them as a weakness, especially since Haruto is a con artist. His internal struggle leads him to fall ill, and Haruto ends up caring for him. Shiba is surprised to find that Haruto has helped him complete his legal work by studying the law books on Shiba’s shelf. Haruto reveals that, helping the weak and poor has brought him the most joy.
In a shocking confrontation, Shiba accuses Haruto of being a con artist. Haruto is taken aback and asks how long Shiba has known, but Shiba coldly asks him to leave. Heartbroken, Haruto complies, thanking Shiba for their time together.
Outside, Haruto reflects on his relationship with Shiba and realizes he truly fell in love with him, despite his criminal background. He meets a group of street kids who express their admiration for him. Haruto gives one of them an allowance, stating that he’ll soon be making a lot of money because he’s returning to his old life. He reunites with his con artist crew, accepting that he doesn’t belong with someone like Shiba.
As time passes, Shiba resumes his old life but feels an empty space in his heart that only Haruto can fill. Things heat up when Kazama informs him that the police are closing in on the land scam gang Haruto is associated with. Worried, Shiba searches for Haruto. At a bar, Shiba encounters Yuu, the boy Haruto gave an allowance to earlier. Yuu asks Shiba if he’s Haruto’s boyfriend, to which Shiba denies, calling himself just a roommate. However, Shiba soon learns that Haruto has been taking care of the street kids, with plans to make money and build a home for them to start over. This revelation touches Shiba, changing his perception of Haruto.
When Shiba discovers Haruto’s location, he rushes to find him. Meanwhile, Haruto is negotiating a deal worth a billion yen with the scam leader, but the leader refuses, nearly resorting to violence. Shiba’s sudden appearance shocks everyone, especially Haruto. Shiba pleads with Haruto to come home with him, stating he doesn’t belong in the underworld. Shiba is beaten by the scam leader’s men, but during the beating, he apologizes to Haruto for his harsh words and admits he misjudged him. Moved by Shiba’s sincerity, Haruto fights off the men and escapes with Shiba into the rain.
Once safe, Haruto asks Shiba if he only came back because he’s a useful partner, but Shiba confesses that he’s in love with him. Haruto, with tears in his eyes, acknowledges that he always knew Shiba couldn’t live without him. Haruto then confesses his love for Shiba, and the two share their first kiss, officially becoming a couple.
That night, the pair share a bed for the first time, but Shiba notices Haruto having a nightmare, calling out for his mother. This moment makes Shiba realize that there are still many things about his new lover that remain a mystery.
