So-bok, furious, bans Jeong-nyeon from performing again, despite Jeong-nyeon feeling that her performance saved the show.
After the play, Ki-joo warmly congratulates Yeong-seo with a hug, telling her she performed well. Meanwhile, Hye-ran tells Ok-gyeong that Jeong-nyeon’s journey is over, though Ok-gyeong, impressed hopes she’ll learn from her mistakes. Later, Joo-ran and Jeong-nyeon leave the theater, where a group of fans enthusiastically praises Jeong-nyeon’s performance, making her realize the negative impact her outburst had on the play. At home, Yeong-seo’s mother greets her warmly highlighting that she could tell Jeongnyeon was Gyeon Seon’s daughter as soon as she heard her voice. but soon shifts to praising Jeong-nyeon, commanding her daughter to surpass her rival and break her spirit.
At Maeran, Jeong-nyeon, banned from training, spends her time studying the other characters and practicing on her own. She even teams up with Joo-ran to rehearse a scene, leaving Joo-ran unexpectedly flustered. Meanwhile, Yeong-seo overhears and recalls her mother’s harsh words. Later, Jeong-nyeon finds her mother’s record broken and confronts Yeong-seo, who is practicing tearfully. Yeong-seo asks Jeong-nyeon to teach her how to sing effortlessly, but Jeong-nyeon replies that she won’t live in her mother’s shadow and advises Yeong-seo to find her own path too.
Joo-ran and Yeong-seo stumble while practicing their scene, distracted by memories of rehearsing with Jeong-nyeon. Meanwhile, Ok-gyeong later steps in to help Jeong-nyeon refine her understanding of the role of Precious, reminding her to consider the broader story.
Meanwhile, So-bok and Do-aeng discover an intruder in the prop room, possibly from inside the troupe. On the day of the performance, a stage light falls, injuring Joo-ran. With her stand-in unprepared, Joo-ran insists Jeong-nyeon take over as Precious, but So-bok warns her that one mistake could mean her dismissal from the troupe.
On stage, Jeong-nyeon stays focused through her scenes, but during the Precious-Gomigeol moment, her acting throws Yeong-seo off, causing her to forget her lines. Jeong-nyeon improvises, helping Yeong-seo regain control. After the performance, So-bok praises both of them and officially promotes Jeong-nyeon to a trainee. Later, Do-aeng reveals that Mr. Ko likely caused the stage light incident. So-bok, Hye-ran, and Do-aeng find the troupe’s ledgers and cash missing in his office. So-bok decides not to involve the police to protect the troupe’s reputation.
Later, we learn that Hye-ran and Mr. Ko are working together. Ko reveals that Hye-ran has been paying off journalists to keep Ok-gyeong’s past under wraps. Hye-ran explains it’s to protect her secrets. At home, Hye-ran and Ok-gyeong argue when Ok-gyeong prepares to meet friends. Ok-gyeong accuses Hye-ran of trying to push out the other talented actresses, while Hye-ran clings to her position as the lead, unwilling to accept competition.
The Maeran troupe travels to Busan for a performance. While there, one of the locals invites Ok-gyeong and Hye-ran to a wedding, and Hye-ran agrees on both their behalf. She’s unsettled by how much Ok-gyeong admires Jeong-nyeon. Meanwhile, while negotiating a joint production, the director suggests a more equal profit-sharing arrangement, but for now, Maeran takes a larger cut. Later, Joo-ran and Jeong-nyeon are chatting when they encounter Yeong-seo, who surprises Jeong-nyeon with a Chae Gong-seon record to replace the one she broke.
The following morning, So-bok announces a joint production featuring the young versions of the prince and princess. Students can audition for these roles, which will solidify their future as the successors to Ok-gyeong and Hye-ran. The twist? They must audition in pairs. As the announcement ends, both Jeong-nyeon and Yeong-seo look towards Joo-ran, their next steps uncertain, setting the stage for a dramatic choice in Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born Episode 7.
*Episode 8 of Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born begins with the students undergoing intense training under So-bok, who emphasizes that the songs for the joint production The Princess and The Frog are particularly challenging. Yeong-seo asks Joo-ran to partner with her for the audition, and Joo-ran requests time to think about it.
Later, Jeong-nyeon suggests they practice together, assuming they will audition as partners. When she questions whether Joo-ran has decided to partner with Yeong-seo instead, Joo-ran reassures her that it’s not like that.*
The next morning, Joo-ran approaches Yeong-seo and decides she wants to audition with her. To Jeong-nyeon’s surprise, Cho-rok asks her to partner up instead, revealing that she saw Joo-ran and Yeong-seo practicing together.
Jeong-nyeon confronts them, and Joo-ran admits her fear that Jeong-nyeon might get too absorbed in her character again, making Yeong-seo a more reliable choice. As Jeong-nyeon leaves, Cho-rok shares her desire to win the audition despite her perceived lack of talent. The following day, Jeong-nyeon agrees to work with Cho-rok after she reassures her about learning from past mistakes.
Meanwhile, Ki-joo visits So-bok and reveals she’s been selected for the judging panel of the joint performance. She’s eager to see which of the two girls, Jeong-nyeon or Yeong-seo, is better. After a press release, Jeong-nyeon’s true identity is revealed, intensifying the rivalry between the girls.
As Jeong-nyeon and Cho-rok practice, Jeong-nyeon is distracted, and Cho-rok wonders about Joo-ran and Yeong-seo’s chemistry. Hye-rang adds fuel to Jeong-nyeon’s jealousy, encouraging her to practice excessively. Afterward, Yeong-seo confesses that she overheard Joo-ran’s conversation and knows she was Joo-ran’s second choice.
Do-aeng and So-bok discuss the troupe’s finances, hoping the joint performance will help clear debts. So-bok finds Jeong-nyeon practicing with a sore throat, urging her to rest, but Jeong-nyeon, fixated on surpassing Yeong-seo, continues and screams in frustration when her voice falters.
A flashback reveals Gong-seon pushing herself too hard, causing severe consequences. So-bok warns Jeong-nyeon to stop competing with Yeong-seo and focus on her own interpretation of the lead role.
The next morning, Cho-rok tells Yeong-seo that Jeong-nyeon has been secretly training, and Yeong-seo finds her in a cave, sick.
Stubbornly, Jeong-nyeon goes back to the cave and sings and coughs up blood. She wakes up Back at Maeran, Jeong-nyeon tries to sing but no sound comes from her throat. Thankfully, it’s only a dream, and she discovers she hasn’t actually lost her voice when she wakes up.
On audition day, Joo-ran confides in Yeong-seo about her decision, admitting she was nervous practicing Jamyunggo and feared losing herself in her character. Yeong-seo reassures her, offering her support. However, Jeong-nyeon is missing, having been to the mountain. When Joo-ran and Yeong-seo perform, they do well, though So-bok suggests Yeong-seo should act more foolish for her role.
Jeong-nyeon arrives at the green room, still sick and hoarse. An argument breaks out over Hye-rang’s advice, which Ok-gyeong overhears. She confronts Hye-rang angrily. Next, during Jeong-nyeon and Cho-rok’s audition, Jeong-nyeon’s voice falters, and she begs for another chance. So-bok agrees. Jeong-nyeon manages to sing clearly but collapses from exhaustion and blood loss at the end, passing out on stage.
