Happy Of The End Episodes 1-2 Recaps

The episode opens up with the main character Chihiro finding himself in a man’s car. In a voice over, he describes how the man nearly killed him but he still willingly went with him because he thought he would never see him again.

In a flashback to twenty hours ago, we see Chihiro starving to the point he steals a little boy’s burger. That night, he finds himself in a gay bar and the moment he locks eyes with our other lead, Keito, he is immediately drawn to him. He introduces himself. They are the same age, twenty three and they both start talking. Chihiro flirts, telling Keito he is his type and Keito gets embarrassed and asks about him. He suggests they go somewhere quiet and talk. Chihiro immediately agrees. But in the process of getting intimate, Keito suddenly hits him with a Vibrator and proceeds to punch him repeatedly in the face.

The next morning, Chihiro wakes up on top of garbage with Keito laughing that he’s still alive. Another man, Kaji approaches, attempting to finish him off with a shovel but Keito reminds him that they weren’t told to kill him. Turned out they were sent by Chihiro’s former lover whom he cheated on and stole his black card. The man wants his card back and sent them to retrieve it but Chihiro tells them the card looked useless so he threw it into a convenience store trash.

Keito and Kaji start to leave but Chihiro complains over how Keito deceived him. He is intent on finishing what they started at the hotel so the two let him come with them.

Keito tells him cheekily that he will let him have sex with him if he helps them find the card. He reveals they are scouts for hostesses and sex workers and Chihiro asserts that they are trash just like him who leeches off people but he’s better than them.

As they drive off, Chihiro can’t understand why he still wants to sleep with Keito after getting beaten up by him so badly. He recalls how he was kicked out of the house by his father and how he failed at every job he did. He felt like he was trash but there was something about Keito’s eyes last night when they first met that seemed pure.

He is forced to move Keito’s things to his apartment. It’s quite run down and Chihiro observes that Keito is different from his first impression. He is quiet and feels it would be great if he can have sex with him. Keito simply shows him a camera someone left on the stairs. Chihiro is very happy with the camera and reveals he wanted to be a photographer. He asks to take Keito’s photos and they go outside but he keeps wasting time because they have one shot only to take.

Chihiro then tells Keito to tell him something. Keito then asks when he started liking men. Chihiro tells him it’s been since he was little. His parents took him to the hospital hoping to cure him. Since then, he realized that he had to hide his real self and when he was in school, distanced himself from everyone. Keito asks him if he had ever being in a relationship. Chihiro admits he was in a relationship with a guy called Shunichi until recently when they broke up. Shunichi was the only one who spoke to him in school when he was trying to keep to himself.

After graduation, Shunichi asked him out and they became lovers but Chihiro wasn’t sure if Shunichi really liked him. His fears materialized and Shunichi ended up marrying a woman. Chihiro’s parents and his brother then disowned him for being gay.

However, Keito refuses to reveal his relationship with his mother, claiming that it’s a secret. Chihiro notices how gentle his face gets when he talks of his mother. He tells him to think of his mother. Chihiro then takes his picture but Keito restricts him just as he takes a shot. This frustrates Chihiro.

That night, Chihiro tells Keito how he sometimes feels like dying. Keito tells him they should have sex so he doesn’t have such thoughts. However, what he does is to jerk him off.

Two weeks pass and Chihiro asks Keito if he can continue to stay at his house. He agrees. Just then, Kaji and another man arrive with drinks. They all have a drinking session together. When Chihiro asks Kaji if he is Keito’s boyfriend, he denies it, explaining that he has a girlfriend Emiko who is a hostess. He plans to leave his current work, open a ramyun shop and marry her. Keito adds that Emiko might not want to leave her job for him and this makes the others laugh especially Chihiro. Annoyed, Kaji smacks Chihiro’s head, calling him a leech who even lives off someone who beat him up.

This is when Chihiro reveals his pain about his ex boyfriend who dumped him for a woman. The alcohol gets to him and he lies down to sleep. Kaji later wakes him up to help him take the other man who was drunk away. Afterwards, Kaji suggests they have a drink and smoke cigarettes together. On their way, Chihiro spots Keito and a woman together. Kaji explains she’s his mother. Keito always gives her money but Kaji doubts she’s his real mother. Chihiro notices Keito’s smile, something he rarely does.

After another jerking off session, Keito notices how thin Chihiro is. Chihiro explains it’s because he has no money to eat extra things apart from noodles so Keito suggests they go shopping and they end up buying lots of snacks. Chihiro cooks a meal for them which turns out to be delicious. As Chihiro is washing the dishes, he wonders why he cares so much about Keito when he knows little to nothing about him.

Keito is working on his laptop when Chihiro approaches and asks him what he would eat. Keito wants omelette rice and Chihiro finds it easy to make. Keito lovingly looks at Chihiro while he’s talking of the ingredients to buy but then past memories of being hurt by loved ones resurfaces and he hardens his heart. He flinches when Chihiro touches him. Chihiro apologizes and leaves.

Later, they eat the omelette rice Chihiro prepared. Keito complains that it’s plain but eats it regardless. He then gives Chihiro a necklace with a love shaped pendant. He claims he got it from one of his snacks and Chihiro shyly wears it even though he thinks it’s lame.

However, one day on his way back from shopping, Chihiro sees Keito’s mother sitting in the middle of the street looking lost and beaten up. Keito arrives and the two of them try to help her up but she resists them until Keito calls a certain man who takes her away in his car. His mother used to work in the man’s agency. Chihiro lost the pendant in the process and Keito helps him find it, smiling at how happy he looks to have it returned.

While they are lying together in bed, Keito thanks Chihiro for helping him with his mother. He reveals that his mother actually came from China and worked as a prostitute in Japan. She got pregnant for one of her customers and when Keito was fifteen abandoned him to follow her lover. The card that Chihiro threw away is actually a membership card for an organization that deals in child prostitution. He was a child prostitute at the time. Chihiro feels sorry for him and Keito finally reveals that his real name is Haoren since he’s chinese.
