Episode 6 of Good Partner begins with Eun-kyung and Yu-ri in the courtroom, where they discover that the real issue in the divorce battle isn’t the division of assets but the custody of Eun-kyung’s daughter. Meanwhile another couple is going through a divorce trial and the woman is tired of raising her kids because the father is useless. After the hearing, Eun kyung and Yu ri encounter the couple also going through a divorce. They are arguing as the woman accuses her husband of being a useless father while he thinks she isn’t fit to be a mother. The woman meets Eun Kyung and begs her to take her case but Eun kyung is preoccupied, that is until the woman tells her she’s a fan and supports her. She is moved and at Eun-kyung’s suggestion, Yu-ri offers a consultation to the woman.
Immediately after reaching the law firm, Eun-kyung panics when she realizes her daughter, Jae-hee, is missing. She searches everywhere until she finds Jae-hee with Choi Sa-ra. She makes Jae hee leave the restaurant and threatens Choi So ra not to use her daughter. It turns out that not only is Jae-hee aware of her parents’ impending divorce, but she’s also clever enough to have figured out that her father cheated on Eun-kyung with Choi Sa-ra but Eun Kyung tries to deny it. However, Jae hee can’t be easily deceived and says nothing when Eun kyung suggests she will live with her and see her father during weekends.
Meanwhile, during the consultation, Yu-ri learns that the woman’s husband neglects his responsibilities at home, frequently drinking excessively. Surprisingly, the woman doesn’t want custody of her children. Unlike Eun-kyung and Ji-sang, who are fighting for custody, this couple is fighting because neither wants it. Yu ri is surprised that the woman will leave her two boys with such an irresponsible man but the woman is only thinking about herself, feeling that she’s living a life of torment.
Yu ri talks to Eun kyung about how surprised she is that there are couples who don’t want their kids. Eun kyung advices her to just do what her client wants. Yu ri learns from Eun kyung about Sa ra taking her daughter and is pissed. But Eun kyung admits she isn’t confident in winning the custody since she was always absent from her daughter’s life.
Elsewhere, Sa-ra’s colleagues make her uncomfortable after correctly guessing that she’s Ji-sang’s mistress during a staff lunch. While snooping on Eun-kyung’s laptop, Sa-ra discovers that she is about to be promoted to the Chief Manager position—a role Sa-ra had wanted for the longest time. She’s happy and makes herself comfortable in Eun kyung’s office, sitting in her chair but Eun kyung catches her.
Sa ra asks Eun-kyung to settle the divorce case in exchange for Jae-hee’s custody, but Eun-kyung is obviously not in the mood to humour her. Sa ra tells her she’s the one who pushed her husband into having an affair and to think about what she said, not just to get angry at her.
Meanwhile, Yu ri’s client’s husband refuses to divorce her during a court session and Sa ra realises that he just wants to avoid paying child support. Eun kyung tells her to gather evidence proving the father’s fault but they figure that if they do, the woman would end up with custody of her kids which is something she doesn’t want.
In another consultation, the woman shares with Yu-ri and Eun-kyung how challenging her life has become. She’s lost her sense of self and has developed depression, while her husband’s carefree lifestyle only adds to her struggles. She ends up loosing it when her children make a mess and shouts at them but she comes to her senses and cries that she just needs to rest. This makes Eun kyung recall her argment with her husband who kept critcizing her for not caring for her daughter since giving birth to her and insist they have equal responsibility knowing fully well she was stressed out to the point she threw up.
Eun kyung watches the woman hug and apologise to her children. Eun-kyung, who can relate to the woman’s difficulties, especially after being out of the job market for over a decade, comes up with a plan.
Ji sang takes his daughter to the new house he has bought but becomes elusive when she asks if only the two of them would leave there together. He apologises that he would not be getting back together with her mother.
Eun kyung’s plan is to make the husband realise himself and help the family bond together. She tries to avoid the topic when Yu ri points out that she needs to bond more with her daughter in other to win the custody battle. As Yu ri leaves, Eun kyung assures her that she will pay more attention to her daughter.
Woo jin invites Eun kyung out on a walk now that everyone has forgotten their office husband scandal. They discuss the custody of her child and Eun kyung feels she may not win due to her repeated absence from her child’s life but Woo jin tries to comfort her hinting that at least, she took care of her financially and taught her work ethic. Eun kyung asks why he’s still unmarried after knowing so much about parenting and he replies that he seems to know much about others lives wheres as his own life seems foggy.
Eun kyung returns home with bra she bought for her daughter but things go sour as her daughter only wears wireless bra and tells her that she shouldn’t bother since the house keeper buys the things she wants. She gets sarcastic and Eun kyung asks her to tell her what she’s really upset about and Jae hui lets out all her insecurities, crying that she’s sure she wants her gone as she never had time for her. Eun kyung is shocked by this as Jae hui cries that she should leave her alone to think and make her own choice. Eun kyung leaves and Jae hui cries to herself.
Jae-hee eventually asks to meet with Yu-ri. The two get friendly and eat at a restaurant. Yu ri tells Jae hee about her father’s affair when she was in high school and how it still affects her even as an adult. She advises her that her happiness and choice are more important than the custody battle. Jae-hee expresses to Eun-kyung that she wants the freedom to decide what she wants to do and who she wants to live with.
Later, in court, Eun-kyung and Yu-ri execute a plan where they falsely claim their client was in a car accident and is now hospitalized. Eun kyung also argues that due to the client’s depression, she is unable to care for her children, suggesting that the father’s parents, both educators, should take custody if the father cannot. This infuriates the father The judge eventually rules for negotiation.
Jae hui is lonely as other children are being picked up from their academy except for her. That night, Eun ho meets with Yu ri while she’s eating alone in front of a convenience store. He decides to stick to being her friend and encourages her to talk to him whenever she wants so she tells him about her case. He finds it interesting which surprises her. She doesn’t feel divorce area is where she should be but Eun ho stops her thinking, advising her that there’s no right and wrong in relationships, only the couples know how things are. She suddenly leaves making Eun ho think sadly she might be meeting a man.
Actually, Yu ri is meeting her client who feels relieved to have the time to herself. She wants to go away and treat her depression, get a job and finally be able to care for her children. Yu ri realises the sacrifices parents go through for their children.
Later, the case is settled with the father gaining custody while the mother watches the children on the weekends so he can be free to drink as much as he wants. As they head back to the office, Yu ri acknowledges Eun-kyung’s strategy worked and sees her as someone to look up to but she can’t understand why the husband would divorce just to be able to drink but Eun-kyung says he didn’t divorce just to drink. This was his opportunity to finally be a good father and remarks that it often takes a divorce for some people to start being responsible parents, as we see the father finally stepping up for his children. He and his ex wife now get along well.
The next day is a highlight in Choi Sa-ra’s life, as she’s promoted to Chief Manager and assigned to a new office. But her happiness is short-lived when Eun-kyung fires her as the episode comes to a dramatic end.
This was Eun kyung’s tactic. To give her something she had always wanted, just to take it away from her cruelly. Yu ri was right. She definitely is the queen of revenge. I’m glad Good partner is back as the episodes haven’t been uploading for some reason. I think they stalled until their competitor, the Auditors finished airing. It’s just my opinion. Anyway, it was a wonderful episode that dealt very well with intricacies of parenthood.
