Episode 9 starts with Jung-wook looking to release tension, which is a cover for him injecting drugs into himself. One of the women accompanying him leaves to procure the drugs from a man in a parking lot. After getting high, Jung-wook emerges. The man from before is ready to take Jung-wook home, but Jung-wook wants to drive himself.
While driving, he collides with a cyclist in his condition. So-hee’s father witnesses the accident right after dropping off a customer. He pursues Jung-wook in an attempt to make him cease. Jung-wook forcefully drives his car into the taxi causing it to collide with another car, resulting in severe injuries to So-hee’s father.
Currently, the investigators are talking about how the vehicle was an unauthorized taxi operated by nightclubs. Chief Gu backs the TCI in the case. So-hee is not present, as she is at the hospital next to her father who is unconscious. She remembers when her father mentioned to Yeon-ho that the taxi was So-hee’s childhood home and feels terrible. The time for visiting ends, and she has to depart from her father’s presence.
Tae-ju is outside, waiting for So-hee. He desires to assist, but she blames him for not probing the unlicensed taxis issue during his time in power. A flashback depicts Tae-ju and Jung-wook arguing over how Tae-ju closed the case without apprehending the individuals involved, who were similarly privileged children from wealthy families.
At the same time, Yeon-ho and Hyung Kyung discover that the person who typically drove the taxi was Lee Byung-chan. They search for him at the club and converse with Mijin, the woman who was with Jung-wook. She claims Byung-chan was behind the wheel when he had a confrontation with So-hee’s dad. Yeon-ho and Hyung Kyung inform the rest of the TCI team that Jung-wook is implicated despite Mijin’s claims that they exited the car prior to the accident.
In another place, Kyung-soo is awake and bound to a chair. A man wearing black clothing uses electric shocks to make him reveal Jung-wook’s name.
Through monitoring CCTV footage, the TCI is able to pinpoint Byung-chan’s whereabouts to a specific area. They search in junkyards and discover the car right before it’s totally wrecked. Despite the poor condition of the car, forensic experts can determine that three seat belts were being used during the crash.
Jung-wook’s blood and DNA were also discovered close to the driver’s seat. Detective Jung advises caution, as the person in question is the son of the Commissioner General. They bring this information to Chief Gu, who is naturally worried about the situation. Detective Jung insists that the next move is to obtain a confession from Jung-wook.
So-hee absorbs all this information from Hyung Kyung and heads to the club to directly face Jung-wook. Jung-wook is arrogant and mocks her. Fortunately, Yeon-ho manages to remove So-hee before she can strike back. Jung-wook’s father then calls him while waiting outside the club. Commissioner Pyo is filled with anger due to the chaos that Jung-wook has created. Jung-wook also becomes angry and informs his father that he will handle everything on his own.
In another place, Yeon-ho mentions that he was keeping an eye on the club, anticipating Byung-chan’s arrival, when he witnessed So-hee pursuing Jung-wook. He promises to show that Jung-wook is responsible.
The day after, Yeon-ho interrogates Jung-wook but he is able to brush off the questions with a laugh. Simultaneously, Lee Byung-chan reaches the police station and surrenders himself. He acknowledges he was the driver who caused the accident and Dong-gi, who is interrogating him, cannot provide evidence to the contrary.
As Jung-wook is leaving, he deliberately stirs up So-hee once more, leading the rest to intervene and prevent her from attacking him. Following that, the detectives request a warrant, however Chief Gu declines to do so until more evidence is presented. So-hee becomes increasingly irritated. Yeon-ho states that he will apprehend Jung-wook because he has an additional personal motive to do so.
Yeon-ho brings So-hee to his house and reveals his research on his previous accident. He informs her that Kyung-soo, Jung-wook, and Jae-young were using Commissioner Pyo’s car without a license when they saw his accident. They claimed Kyung-soo was the one driving, however, it seems evident that Jung-wook manipulated Kyung-soo to protect himself, similar to the current situation.
Additionally, he informs her of the blackmail situation and reveals that Kyung-soo, who reached out to Yeon-ho in the last episode, has mysteriously disappeared. So-hee comes to the conclusion that a different event must have occurred on that particular evening. The solitary memory Yeon-ho has of the event is catching sight of a sudden burst of light. They speculate that these might be the headlights of a vehicle straying into the oncoming lane on the road.
Commissioner Pyo, the father of Jae-young, and Tae-ju are in conversation about the identical situation. Tae-ju mentions Lee Jung-sub, the girl’s father, and his presence at the hospital when Kyung-soo disappeared. Tae-ju proposes to Commissioner Pyo that they should “trap” them. Next, Tae-ju and other officials are observed leading Detective Jung out, alleging that he is avoiding the investigation. Meanwhile, Tae-ju will assume the role of the TCI’s leader. Chief Gu himself admits that he is unable to prevent this from happening.
Detective Jung comes back after being at a disciplinary committee. He informs Yeon-ho and So-hee that he has been given a three-month disciplinary penalty. Yeon-ho inquires at last about the relationship between him and the Lee Hyun-soo case. Detective Jung presents his findings on the case to him. He states that something was not right – the emergency phone call. Han Kyung-soo made the initial call but abruptly ended the conversation.
The emergency dispatcher attempted to contact Kyung-soo, but he didn’t answer until four minutes had passed. An event occurred during that span of four minutes. Yeon-ho explains to them how Commissioner Pyo came to see him and persuaded him to admit to the wrongdoing. Not long after, Detective Jung was relocated to the rural area. He then tells Yeon-ho to go see a journalist who had been reporting on the incident.
Yeon-ho and So-hee comply and the journalist informs them that his superiors have prohibited him from further discussing the topic. Additionally, he provides them with several photographs and states that the accounts of the witnesses were not consistent with the photos. Prior to their departure, he advises them to proceed with caution.
Tae-ju arrives at the TCI office and inquires about the whereabouts of Yeon-ho and So-hee. The investigators then inspect the pictures and discover that the tire tracks on the pavement are consistent with Commissioner Pyo’s car tires, which were being used by the adolescents. They return to the place where the crime took place and Yeon-ho starts remembering more details about what happened.
After reconstructing his memories, he comes to the realization that he did not actually murder Lee Hyun-soo. Jung-wook and the other two were the ones who ran her over. During their return journey, the pair contacts Detective Jung and informs him of the situation. Next, the team leader informs them that the culprit who murdered Jae-young had a disabled leg.
Next, we observe Detective Jung approach Jung-sub and inquire about his daughter’s husband. Next to each other, we witness Kim Min-sung, the forensic investigator, slipping on a prosthetic limb. Yeon-ho approaches him and addresses him with his actual name – Kim Hyun-min the husband of Lee Hyun-soo who was presumed dead. (I knew it! Although it was surprising it was the sweet forensic scientist)
