Chief Detective Episode 9 Recap

Yeonghan and his team continue to bring justice to the city, apprehending swindlers, thieves, and all manner of criminals for the people. After another successful day, they return to the station to find Namsin waiting with her friend, the young woman who has a report to make. The girl tells them about women disappearing from the factory where she works, a case that Unit 2 had previously investigated and closed.

Yeonghan questions Unit 2’s Chief Hwang Soo-man, who admits he didn’t properly investigate and simply closed the case. He tells Yeonghan’s team they can take over if they think it’s important. Yeonghan snatches the case file, warning Hwang that he’ll punch him on the face if the case turns serious. The team begins their own investigation, learning about 5 missing girls from the factory after their monthly meetings.

At the factory, Yeonghan spots a worker with suspicious injuries and learns the factory owner, the son of an influential man in town Kwon Hyung-geun, had assaulted her. The worker also tells him the owner would single out girls during the meetings. Yeonghan rushes to confront Hyung-geun, only for commander Baek to intervene, fighting and punching Yeonghan before taking Hyung-geun away, as he is the son of a high-ranking officer.

Soon, a body is found near a cliff in the factory’s uniform. Forensic evidence shows the woman was brutally tortured before being killed but there were flesh found under her nails meaning she desperately fought back against her attacker. Yeonghan is saddened he couldn’t save her, but is determined to bring her justice. The team finds the victim was likely targeted by a group called the Tennis Boys Club, which Hyung-geun is part of. They confront them and discovers that another one of the boys Yon hak has scratch marks on his neck closely resembling the marks found under the victim’s fingernails.

Yeonghan tries to get information from the owner of a pub frequented by corrupt officials, but she is unwilling to cooperate. However, one of her employees, who the team had helped previously, convinces her to provide testimony.

Meanwhile, the victim, Soon Jung’s mother is devastated over her death as she was the only one who assisted her in taking care of her younger siblings. Hyeju and Yeonghan as well as the rest of the team try to comfort her.

Meanwhile, one of the boys Jung il humiliates a pair of professional tennis players after setting up a match with them. Because he and his team are defeated, he starts slapping and hitting them but another boy Hee-sung seems more sympathetic by giving them money. But in their privacy, the others accuse Hee sung of putting them in this current predicament with the police. Yoon hak warns him never to get cocky with them again or they would expose how much of a nutcase he really is. To apologize, Hee sung gives them a bottle of expensive wine.

The pub owner meets Yeonghan at Hyeju’s book store and reveals to the team that although, all the boys where bad, one of them, Jung Hee-sung, was the worst offender, indulging in opium and torturing her staff.

The team sets out to apprehend the boys, but Hee-sung orchestrates a car accident that kills two of them, Yoon hak and Hyung geun. They figure out that Hee Sung is responsible but they don’t have enough evidence. The lone survivor, Nam Jung-gil, is rushed to the hospital, where Yeonghan confronts Hee-sung. He maintains his innocence but gets triggered when they mention that opium was found in his car. Hee-sung then warns Commander Baek, who covers up the incident by claiming the opium found was just salt.

Infuriated, Yeonghan’s team now sees Commander Baek as Hee-sung’s accomplice. With officer Nam disguised as a doctor, the team is able to get information and they stake out the hospital, waiting for Jung-gil to wake up. Hee-sung tries to silence Jung-gil by choking him to death, while Yeonghan attempts a daring rescue, only to find himself in peril as his makeshift rope breaks, leaving him in a dangerous situation.

Wow! What a rollercoaster of an episode. Those rich kids really are worse than scum and I’m glad to see them get their just rewards. The series is slowly coming to an end and I’ll just have to admit that the series has been pretty decent so far.
