Chief Detective Episode 2 Recap

After Sam sun hits Yeong han in the head, he gets hit as well by Jungbum for once biting his brother’s ear off while Sam sun is trying to convince the others to share the loot with him. The two wake up outside and Yeong han asks Sam sun why he hit him. He replies that he saved his life. He had noticed that the American was aiming for his head so Yeong han would have died if he hadn’t hit him. Yeong han thanks him and the two decide they will not let things lie. When they return to the police station, they see Chief Byun and his men who mock them for looking dirty and for being loosers. Yeong han insults them back not caring about their rank. He and Sam sun tell them to be prepared for what happens next before they both leave to wash up.

The youngest detective rushes in minutes later and announces that the warehouse’s location has been known to the public. People are taking things from there. Chief Byun and his men rush over there discovering it’s true. This is the handiwork of Yeong han and Sam sun. The two laugh, knowing that there would be commotion due to what they’ve done.

Meanwhile, Yeong han returns to the police station to find Superintendent Chief Choi giving Chief Byun and his men an earful for letting the smuggling incident reach the public. He wants to punish Yeong han and Sam sun but they remind him that things would have gone a lot worse if they had informed the American military police. No doubt, all of them would have been arrested. The superior Chief Choi has to be silent.

Lee Jungjae has discovered Yeong han was responsible for his losses as the Americans have refused to work with him again. He tells his subordinates, Viper and Jung bum to deal with him. Meanwhile, the thugs try to talk to the big man from the market but he intimidates them with his strength and they back off.

A young student lingers in a library, admiring the beauty of the owner, Hyeju. She asks him if he needs anything but he isn’t able to talk as her friend Namin appears to gossip with her. The student leaves and Namin points out that he’s always there probably because he likes Hyeju but she dismisses it. The friend then tells her about the crazy new cop in town who let snakes loose on some hardened thugs. Hyeju thinks he’s really crazy. But coincidentally that night, while running from thugs determined to kill him, Yeong han runs into Hyeju’s library. The young university student is there as well hoping to confess his feelings before Yeong han barged in. He pleads with Hyeju to hide him.

At first she refuses but she gets a change of heart upon hearing the thugs are closer. She hides Yeong han inside a cellar and when the thugs come by, she pretends she hasn’t seen anyone. She sends the university student away by pretending to give him a book he has bought. Hyeju then acts dramatically after the thugs topple her books. This causes them to leave in embarrassment.

Hyeju brings Yeong han out of the cellar. When he reveals he’s the one who set snakes loose on the thugs, she’s not all that impressed. She notices the injury on his forehead and dabs at it with her handkerchief, warning him to learn to fight better than setting snakes loose. Yeong han tries to convince her he really can fight but she doesn’t believe him.

That night, Yeong han can’t stop thinking about Hyeju. He is surprised when Chief Yu suddenly visits to check up on him because Viper had called him saying he would be dealt with. Yeong han is flustered that Chief Yu cares about him so much although the older man tries to hide it.

Meanwhile, the university student Hojeong is set to leave abroad for studies but his true intention is to be a policeman. However, his father isn’t in support of his dream because the police aren’t well paid and lack a good reputation. But when Hojeong discovers there’s an open recruitment for the police, he can’t help but take the form.

Meanwhile, Yeong Han, frustrated at being the only officer in his unit, requests Sam sun to join him. He agrees after a while as long as Yeong Han allows him to bite bad guys. Together, the two head to the market to convince the tough guy Jo Gyeong Hwan to become a Police man but he refuses due to the corruption of the police system. He says he would only get in if he can work with the police man who set snakes loose on those mean thugs. Yeong han reveals he’s the one and Jo Gyeong Hwan happily agrees to follow him.

Meanwhile, Hojeong is still debating on whether to follow his dream of being a police man or not while packing up his things. He sees an old police badge he had collected and throws it away but each time, it bounces off the window and returns to him. It happens so many times that Hojeong takes this as a sign and fills the police form, quickly returning to the recruitment center.

Hojeong and Jo Gyeong Hwan respectively pass the recruitment. Hojeong with his high iq and Jo Gyeong Hwan with his strength after defeating three martial artists. Jo Gyeong Hwan along with Yeong Han and Sam sun all celebrate his success with a drink and introduce themselves to each other. The shop owner is glad that Sam sun who is always a loner mostly enjoying company with his puppy finally has people to hang out with.

While they are eating, they see a lovey dovey couple and Yeong han is suddenly reminded of Hyeju. That night, he summons his courage and asks her out to a movie. She accepts to go out with him. The next day, Yeong han introduces Sam sun and Jo Gyeong Hwan to Chief Yu and just then, superintendent Chief Choi enters to proudly introduce Hojeong a graduate from the prestigious Hanyu University who will be joining unit 2, Chief Byun’s team. The officers are surprised as to why someone like him would join the police force. Just then, detective Oh enters to let them know they caught an American welding dynamite. To communicate with him, they take Hojeong with them to interrogate him while superintendent Chief Choi mocks Chief Yu and his team, telling them to do public service. However, things go awry when the American sets loose the dynamite during interrogation. Hojeong is the only one who manages to subdue him and throw the dynamite but it ends up exploding superintendent Chief Choi’s car.

Meanwhile, Yeong han with chief Yu and the rest are forced to become actors for a movie director. As they are returning to the station, Yeong han asks Chief Yu why he isn’t fired yet despite going against Lee Jung jae. Chief Yu replies that they would soon know the reason why. When they get to the station, they are surprised to see Superintendent Choi’s car being burnt. Yeong han feels concerned when Hojeong is being yelled at by Chief Byun and later that day, he finds him drinking alone at a bar.

A white racist American soldier gets into a nasty fight at a bar with a Korean soldier. After arresting a group of thugs, Yeong han and the team are made to go to the scene of the fight. Meanwhile, Chief Byun treats Hojeong terribly, making him shine his shoes. So Yeong han took him with them so he could translate English for him. However, when they get to the scene, they discover that the Korean and American soldiers are in a gun standoff and the American military police are yet to arrive. Yeong han and Sam sun recognize the Americans as the smugglers from the warehouse. They aren’t prepared for this but Hojeong comes up with a plan saying he had read it from a book. Although they are reluctant, they go ahead with it.

Hojeong and Gyeong Hwan pretend to be chefs and enter through the building’s back gate saying they want an American to taste their dishes. They also hyped them up, causing the leader to lose guard. Seeing this, Yeong han and Sam sun sneaked in and attacked. Soon enough, they are subdued and the American military police arrive to arrest the Americans. Steve Jackson, the Korean soldier who was in the stand off, thanks them for their help and after he leaves, Hojeong admits this was a plan he thought of. It didn’t come from any book. Yeong han is impressed. He then asks Hojeong if they’ve met before and he replies that they met at the library. Yeong han then asks Hojeong to join his unit. Sam sun isn’t sure what good Hojeong would be to the team but Yeong han responds they need a genius like him. The episode ends with the four men entering their car and driving away.
