Episode 5 opens with a flash back of Jae-jin and Young-won celebrating their anniversary, enjoying each other’s company while constantly being observed by Sa-gang.
The focus now turns to Young-won and Se na s they discover Jae-jin’s sunken car. Luckily, or unluckily, they don’t discover a dead body with it. The police break the news to the two women and tell them that Jae-jin’s vehicle was spotted at the port.
While following the trail of Jae-jin and Se-na, they come across the apartment the duo had rented for a month in advance. They find a suicide note in the room from Jae-Jin, where he apologizes for his extreme choice.
Despite the police’s belief that Jae-jin took his own life, Sa-gang insists that she has a strong sense that her son is not dead. Yeong-min, his aunt too, reaches the police station in a state of hysteria upon hearing about Jae-jin’s suicide. The police and the family examine Jae-jin’s actions on CCTV, but they find no success.
Sa-gang chooses to spend the night looking for her son, while Young-won goes back to her son, feeling deceived and disenchanted by her supposed “family.”
When she calls Do hyun, Mun Tae-o answers instead and appears to be behaving suspiciously.
The following day, she leaves Do-hyun at school and briefly sees his crush, who sarcastically smiles at her.
Yeong-won recalls seeing the number 6 next to Do-hyun’s image in their family photo and is concerned that Do-hyun might become the next victim. Afterwards, she goes to see Dr. Oh in order to gather more information on Jae-jin. Dr. Oh admits she is unaware of any information about Jae-jin, but reveals she did follow him to the vacation home that evening. She was hit in the head by Lee Se-na, who whispered that everyone would perish.
Meanwhile, Sa-gang suggests that if Jae-jin never departed from the port, there’s a possibility that he could have journeyed further past it. Sa-gang and Kang-sung start their inquiry and later encounter a boatman who asserts he transported Jae-jin and Se-na. She gives him money, and together they agree to follow the couple’s path.
In the meantime, Young-won starts investigating to learn more about her husband. She examines surgery documents and CCTV recordings. Realizing that all the information was erased, she recovers the CCTV recordings and learns that Jae-jin did not perform his surgeries himself. He simply remained standing or sitting to the side with headphones on. Meanwhile, she breaks down when she receives a picture of Jae-jin’s watch, which she gave him on their anniversary.
The following day, she discovers through a phone call from the bank that someone withdrew their money at another branch. Simultaneously, reports emerge regarding Young-won’s difficult family situation and her involvement in the suicide of a man named Mr. Choi.
Afterwards, in her office, Young-won concludes that Jae-jin seemed too happy to have passed away in the CCTV clip. It appeared that he was putting on a performance. She is questioning whether he and Se na ran away with the money. This is the moment she gets a video of Jae-jin pushing his rented car into the water at the port, telling her, “Se-na, I believe I can be truly happy now.” It’s evident that Jae-jin’s death was a planned occurrence.
After news broke of Young-won being involved in a suicide case, journalists swarm her office and her home. On her way back, she also stumbles upon a viral video of Sa-gang defending her son’s death rumors. Sa-gang and Kang-sung discovered Se-na and Jae-jin on the CCTV footage after they arrived at their destination following the ferry ride.
Sa-gang meets with Young-won and she states that Jae-jin is like a non-existent person in her life, indicating she will no longer participate in his case. At a different location, Se-na is annoyed as she watches Sa-gang’s viral video at a hotel, while Jae-jin is swimming. She gives him a call and instead of assisting him to stand up, she pushes him into the water and attempts to drown him.
