The second episode starts with Lee Gun confessing to Ju-yeon that she is his first love. The doctors think the trial was successful because the new Gun is overly charming, confident, and narcissistic with everyone complimenting his own looks. Even his parents and Shin are surprised.
However, Ju-yeon is concerned as she remembers the moment when she touched Gun’s face and he briefly woke up after the surgery. She speculates that his memory of his first love was not deleted, but altered to make him believe she is the same person. However, she does question why his initial affection has transformed into a negative recollection that he desires to eliminate.
Meanwhile, Gun’s final recollection is his last tennis game as a child prior to the incident where he threw his racket. However, when questioned about Gun jumping in the river, Shin quickly interjects and insists that Gun actually tripped on the stairs.
Afterward, Dr. Han suggests that the family continue withholding information from Gun regarding his past and the trial. He will be separated and monitored for the next 100 days. The family experiences guilt when Han reveals that Gun only recollects his last game because everything since then must have been negative for him. It is also revealed that Shin is the one who registered Gun for the experiment and is now acting as his caretaker.
Gun later encounters Ju-yeon and guides her into a storage room. He thinks she has been looking for him and becomes annoyed when she denies knowing him. They catch a nurse chatting with her boyfriend and Ju-yeon attempts to leave unnoticed. However, when Gun produces a sound, the nurse summons Dr. Tae-oh to inspect the storage area.
Ju-yeon, who has a crush on Tae-oh, unexpectedly prevents Gun from opening the door, which amuses him. However, she observes that he is gripping the doorknob with his left hand because his right hand appears to still be experiencing discomfort. Outside, as doctors contact security to investigate the storage room and Gun declines to hide, Ju-yeon suggests playing rock, paper, scissors. She emerges victorious and exits, feigning a phone conversation as Gun is compelled to conceal himself inside the laundry basket.
Once he vanishes, the hospital enters a state of panic. The Lee family comes home and discovers Gun in Shin’s bathroom, dressed in Shin’s clothes, and occupying Shin’s bedroom. Shin doesn’t point out his mistake, pretending everything belongs to him but they are amazed by Gun’s newfound self-centered attitude. While the mother is frustrated, the father allows his son to continue because he sympathizes with him.
In the hospital, Ju-yeon thinks the experiment was unsuccessful, however Han prevents her from removing Gun as a participant. He argues that Gun is significantly happier and it is their responsibility to address any potential adverse effects. In the meantime, Gun goes back to the hospital where the staff is very busy. The nurse scolds him and informs him that Ju-yeon has been taking care of him every day and he should heed her advice.
As for Ju-yeon, she gets a call from her mom, nagging her for working overtime and being messy. Gun walks in on her and teases her before handing her a drink to thank her for taking care of him. She ends up dreaming about him and the board scolding her for ruining his memories and she feels guilty.
In another place, Shin is occupied shooting a commercial alongside Cha Shi-on and at the same time, ignoring his agent. Shi-on is curious about Gun’s whereabouts, so the agent informs her about the accident. She arrives at the hospital simultaneously with Shin. Nevertheless, Shin is delayed by an enthusiastic fan. Ju-yeon finds himself stuck in the middle while attempting to dodge the fan, who continues to grasp his hand and shout his name.
When it comes to Shi-on, she encounters Gun, who is amazed to find out she is a fan of his. He is extremely direct when he notices that she is confined to doing commercials, but she appreciates his accurate advice for her knee injury. She presents him with a tennis racket and ponders about his missing medal.
This brings back a few memories – the head injury from his previous game, the first love returning to the water to retrieve his medal, his parents abandoning him, Gun discovering his medal, and the first love reuniting at the event and leaping into the river. He loses consciousness and needs to be taken to the ICU.
His friend, Guk-bong, who is the only one waiting for him informs Ju-yeon that he feels guilty as he pressured Gun into attending the reunion. We finally learn about the events of that crucial night – Gun attends the reunion and locates his medal. The employees direct him towards the girl who dropped the item – she is his first love, she has brunette hair and is wearing a hair accessory.
Chasing her, he discovers her in the parking lot, kissing Shin. Devastated, he phones Guk-bong on the bridge before taking the plunge. He feels he doesn’t deserve the girl’s love and is only relieved that she is still alive. Guk-bong regrets that Gun lost his tennis career, his family, and his first love all because of his brother.
Gun discovers his mom sitting beside him. Mrs. Lee admits to being a poor mother, but clarifies that she wasn’t always that way. Next, we learn about her past – she used to be an athlete and her most recent tears were shed when she had to part ways with Gun in order to bring Shin to Australia. She desires for her sons to be strong, thus she makes the choice to never display any vulnerability to them. She also remembers her final conversation with Gun prior to his accident. After the gathering, he arrives home and angrily eats all of the food meant for Shin.
Even though the father said nothing, she criticized him, accusing him of being self-centered. Gun detonates when he reveals that he has sacrificed all for Shin. Even during his time in school being bullied, he refrained from retaliating in order to maintain Shin’s standing. Mrs. Lee is very angry when she demands that he speak to her with respect and his final words are that she has never been a mother to him. Currently, she is determined to make use of this opportunity to be his mother.
During that time, when Shin is at the gym, a few police officers arrive. Gun wakes up and goes to the hospital grounds to practice tennis. Ju-yeon discovers him crying and surprisingly, he is not being arrogant this time. He thinks he must have experienced emptiness when he stopped playing tennis for such a long time. Ju-yeon claims he can restart any activity he desires, when suddenly, a tennis ball shoots out of the machine.
Gun shockingly uses his right hand to block the ball from hitting Ju-yeon. She is shocked about this, realizing he has finally erased his pain as his hand suddenly seems fine. Gun then contemplates the possibility of recovering his memories. Ju-yeon abruptly makes the choice to pretend to be his ex-girlfriend in order to cope with his pain and bury his negative memories. In the meantime, Gun’s first love who happens to look so much like Ju yeon appears at Ju yeon’s mother’s house.
What a rollercoaster of emotions. I love the part where Gun revealed his true feelings to his mother, making her to reflect. I am also shocked at the reason for Gun wanting to commit suicide. How did Lee shin and his ‘first love’ end up kissing in a car. Are they a couple? And obviously, the first love is related to Ju yeon, possibly her twin because of the uncanny resemblance. Ayway, there’s a ;lot to dissect. Until the next episode.
