Chihiro recalls how his life went downhill after his ex jilted him. He started sleeping around and borrowing money, never caring to have any meaningful relationship until his last lover Matsuki picked him up. However, that ended badly as he later stole his money.
Turns out Keito is close to Matsuki who is aware that Chihiro is living with him. He tells him that although Chihiro is no longer fit to be his pet, he liked him, enjoying hearing him cry while smoking close to the window every night. Matsuki thinks Chihiro is destined to live a miserable life.
Kaji and Chihiro share drinks at the house and Chihiro reveals he got kicked out by Matsuki for cheating too much and gambling away his money. Keito returns home seemingly slighted seeing Kaji and Chihiro alone together. He then sits between them. Keito is peeved after learning that Chihiro’s birthday was last week and he didn’t tell him. But he doesn’t react and just allows Chihiro access to his laptop before leaving with Kaji.
However, Chihiro gets the shock of his life when he recieves a message from his ex Shunichi on his social media asking after him. He panics and doesn’t answer his call. Chihiro ends up falling asleep close to the laptop and that night, Keito returns and sees the messages Shunichi sent but he doesn’t say anything. Instead, he starts behaving roughly to Chihiro, forcing him to have sex with him. He is surprised when Chihiro cries and pushes him away.
Chihiro leaves to go meet Shunichi but Keito sees them while going to have a meal with Kaji. He follows them and spies, watching with jealousy as Shunichi manipulates Chihiro, telling him he now has a child with his wife but she has stopped giving him sex. He wants both of them to go to a hotel, claiming that he genuinely loved Chihiro. Just as Chihiro is about giving in, Keito appears and pours alcohol on his head telling him he is trash who wants to continue being trashy. He leaves and Chihiro comes to his senses and rejects Shunichi. He runs after Keito and catches up with him. Keito, happy he didn’t leave with Shunichi, grabs his hand and the two go home together.
It’s while they are home eating that Keito remembers he left Kaji behind at the restaurant. Chihiro shows Keito the photo he had taken of him along with other weird photos of frogs that were already on the camera. Keito realises this is the work of his old boss Maya and after discovering their trash being vandalized the next morning, he tells Keito that they’ll be moving from that area soon. They move to another apartment that same day which surprises Chihiro. He asks why they suddenly moved and Keito replies it’s because he doesn’t want to be found by someone from his old job.
Keito recalls his pitiful past. How he was abused as a child and his mother abandoned him for a man. As a teenager struggling with poverty, he met Kaji and pleaded for his assistance. Kaji introduced him to pedophile adults and never got in touch again. It’s how Keito met Matsuki who offered to take care of him as long as he became his pet but Keito refused as he was in high demand at a club.
Unfortunately he was constantly being physical assaulted by his boss Omoigawa who dealt in child prostitution. He endured, dealing with crazy clients till he became older. In his last job, he ended up totally beaten up and had to be bandaged from head to toe unable to move.
He finally escaped from Maya’s home barefooted. He was lying on the roadside exhausted when Kaji, whom he hadn’t seen in a long time crosses paths with him. He asked Kaji to help him find work. He also asked him to change his name and that’s how his name was changed to Keito.
From then, his job was to use his charms to lure women into prostitution. One day, he sees a random woman on the streets and calls her his mother. She denies knowing him but accepts as soon as he gives her money.
Keito stops thinking of his life as soon as Chihiro wakes up. The two then buy bread together and afterwards talk on the bridge. Chihiro asks him the meaning of his name Haoren. Keito doesn’t know but Chihiro looked it up and it means a big calm lake. Keito smiles at Chihiro feeling touched. He asks Chihiro if he knows the meaning of his own name but he doesn’t and he promises to look it up for him. Chihiro gets shy.
They are returning home when the two see a crowd of people gathered. They are shocked to discover Chihiro’s mom dead on the streets with blood spilling from her head.
