Good Partner Episode 8 Recap

Episode 8 begins with Eun-kyung and Ji-sang on the battleground with a family investigator responsible for handling the custody war between the former couple. Ji-sang, acting on the advice of his lawyer, emphasizes Eun-kyung being an absent parent even going as far as to lie that Eun Kyung never attended any of her daughter’s graduations. Eun-kyung defends herself and tries to justify the career she built for the sake of providing a good life for their daughter but Ji sang angrily rebutts her, claiming she only cares about her career. His judgment of her leads her to cry bitterly. She reaches into the motherly side of the investigator who is also a working mom and admits her faults but promises from henceforth to care for her daughter and groom her into a well raised woman. However, Ji sang has no intention of giving in.

After the meeting, Woo jin slights Ji Sang as he offers to drive Eun kyung back to the office. As they leave, Eun kyung expresses her annoyance over Ji sang still wanting custody of their daughter after his affair but Woo jin advises her to consider it as him wanting to still be a father to his daughter.

Yu ri advises Eun kyung to shower her daughter with love and affection instead of gifts. In the meantime, Yu-ri, Eun-kyung, and Woo-jin decide to close a long-standing custody battle where the son wants to live with his father.

However, just when it seems the case is about to come to an end, Woo-jin finds during the hearing that his client is not the biological father of the child. The mother had kept the truth about the paternity of her son from her husband. Woo jin informs his client and this is a huge shock to the father, who has loved his son just as much as the child has loved him. He can’t bear to reveal this news to his son but to be certain, he decides to conduct a paternity test and retrieves a DNA sample when his 18-year-old son visits him.

Meanwhile, Woo jin and Eun kyung feel for the man for raising a son that isn’t his own. They hope he can get a huge amount of alimony money even though that may not entirely compensate for his heartbreak.

Choi so ra invites Ji sang to her house. While Ji-sang is keen on cutting off his relationship with Choi Sa-ra, as advised by his lawyer, she suddenly throws him the bombshell that she is pregnant.

The next day, Eun kyung is sad as Jae hui is picked up by Ji sang. Eun kyung and the team have a meeting on how to solve the custody issue. Elsewhere, Ji-sang spends time with Jae-hui at an amusement park where they often went when she was a child. Jae-hui spends the night at Ji-sang’s and comes across Sa-ra’s ultrasound picture in one of the drawers in her room at Ji-sang’s place, which is obviously one of Sa-ra’s antics.

While Jae-hui is extremely hurt, she doesn’t tell the investigator. All she says is that when the adults get honest with her, she will say what she really thinks.

That night, Eun kyung misses her daughter, regretting all the times she wasn’t able to be with her. Ji sang also feels worried about the future outcome. As for Jae hui, she secretly cries to herself, releasing all her pent up anguish and pain.

Jae hui returns home to find that her mom has removed the family picture on the wall. However, she doesn’t react to it. Meanwhile, Choi Sa-ra is as persistent as ever. She visits Ji sang without his permission and asks him to accompany her to the doctor, which he obviously refuses. He makes it clear that as long as he gets Jae-hui’s custody, Sa-ra is not his priority. Determined, Sa-ra decides that the only answer for her in this situation is to prevent Ji-sang from getting Jae-hui’s custody.

Elsewhere, Woo-jin’s client decides to drop the child custody case as he wants to remain his son’s legal guardian and father even at a disadvantage knowing he may have to pay child support and leave his properties to him after his death. However, the man insists that the boy is his son no matter what. Both Woo-jin and Eun-ho, who are supporting him in the case, feel bad for how things have turned out for their client. On the other hand, Choi Sa-ra meets with Jae-hui and tells her she is pregnant. She then blatantly asks her to choose her mother instead of her father. Jae-hui leaves angry at Sa-ra’s persistent disregard and yells that she should apologize to her mother. Jae hui goes to Eun kyung’s office but ends up running into Woo jin. She tells him she was only passing by. Woo jin escorts her to the bus stop and as they sit together to wait for the bus, she expresses her confusion on which home to go to. However, Woo jin tells her of his own complicated family issue and advise her that hers would soon be over just like his was.

Woo-jin later meets up with his client for drinks and tries to persuade him once again to follow through with the paternity case but when the man passes out drunk and his son comes for him, even carrying him home on his back, Woo jin experiences how much his son also loves his client and wants to live with him. However, that night, Woo jin returns to his home and drinks, recalling a bad experience in his life.

Eun ho and Yu ri have a drink together that night and talk about the complexities of being a divorce lawyer and how children seem to be affected by it.

At the court mediation, the client is able to retain his legal guardianship over his son and also gets unrestricted access to meet with him. He plans to never let his son know he isn’t his real father. Later, when the case has been wrapped up, Woo-jin informs Eun kyung of the outcome and encourages her that everything will work out. Eun ho is sad and Yu ri taps him to comfort him. Meanwhile, Woo-jin remembers his own complicated parental history.

Later that day, the family investigator visits Eun-kyung’s house. Even though the results are undeclared, Eun-kyung feels that Jae-hui has decided to live with her and discloses this news to Yu-ri. She later meets with the family investigator to find out more and is shocked to learn that Jae-hui had known about Ji-sang’s affair longer than she did.

In a flashback, it’s revealed that Jae-hui found out about her father’s affair when she was staying at Sa-ra’s house and has been anxious ever since. Jae-hui even discloses to the investigator that she had given multiple chances to her father, to be honest with her, but he hadn’t. She’s also aware that her mother’s lies are meant to protect her rather than hurt her.

All hell breaks loose when Eun-kyung discovers Ji-sang’s unborn child and that Jae-hui knows about it too. It’s a shocking and emotionally laden scene as Yu-ri overhears the conversation in shock outside the room. Suddenly, in the next scene, we see a wet and angry Eun Kyung attacking Sa ra in her home. The episode ends as we discover that the law firm’s CEO, who is also Woo-jin’s uncle, is actually his biological father!

Good partner is truly a masterpiece. The story telling hits at your core and makes you feel things. No wonder why it keeps soaring in ratings. I can’t wait to find out what happens next.
