I Hear The Sun Spot Episodes 1-2 Recaps

Two boys Taichi and Kouhei are taking shelter from the rain as they talk. Kouhei is sad that he won’t be able to hear Taichi’s voice anymore. Suddenly, his ears hurt from a loud nose. Taichi comforts him as Kouhei tells him something we don’t know.

The scene jumps to Taichi being made fun of by his friends after he got fired for hitting his manager while trying to get a cheating customer to pay up. Due to being broke, he is unable to eat with his friends. Instead he buys a can drink with the coins he has left but the can ends up rolling from his hand. While trying to get it, he falls down a bushy path. When he looks up, he sees a young man watching him from a building. That is Kouhei.

Taichi immediately gets excited when he sees Kouhei with food and goes over to him. Kouhei gives him permission and he immediately starts eating, complimenting the meal but Kouhei suddenly leaves without talking to him which confuses Taichi.

Later, he asks his friends about Kouhei and they tell him he is popular but deaf in the ears. Despite that, girls still like him because he’s handsome which makes his seniors give him a hard time.

Meanwhile, during lecture, Kouhei can’t hear in class. Afterwards, he goes to his special place to eat but ends up meeting Taichi zgainy who returns his lunch box from before. To thank him, he offers to be his note taker at class but Kouhei clarifies he can hear if he speaks slowly. Kouhei is taken aback by Taichi’s straight forwardness. Taichi introduces himself to him, telling him his name and that he’s a first year. Once again, he gets drawn to Kouhei’s meal and Kouhei decides to share it with him.

Kouhei tells Taichi he needs to be trained before becoming a note taker which leaves Taichi worried. Kouhei then strikes a deal with Taichi to help take notes during classes in exchange for a packed meal. Taichi is very happy and eagerly agrees.

That night, while eating with his mom, Kouhei asks her if she can prepare two lunch boxes for him tomorrow to which his mother agrees. Meanwhile, that night, Taichi and his father complain of her less than appetizing meal.

The next day, the staff at the student affairs is surprised that Taichi won’t be doing the training for note takers as he explains that he will simply be helping Kouhei with his work.

Taichi does his best to jot down everything in class, even letting Kouhei know of the joke he didn’t hear. But later while leaving, he admits the note taking is quite hard as he wasn’t able to complete everything. Just then, they come across two girls who uses sign language to talk with Kouhei. They invite him to their club but he ignores them and walks away.

Taichi asks about them and Kouhei replies that one of them goes to the same sign language school. Kouhei says he finds sign language a hassle, preferring to lip read. But he tells Taichi he wouldn’t need to do that with him since his voice is very loud. He tells him it’s easy to talk to him. Taichi feels the same but is curious to know why he’s always alone, asking if that is what he prefers but Kouhei admits he really doesn’t like being alone. Taichi then tells him not to formally call his name so Kouhei calls his first name which makes Taichi smile sheepishly.

After eating, the two bask in the serenity of the nature around them.

The next day, Taichi falls asleep in class due to overworking the previous night. His friend wakes him up and he apologizes to Kouhei who in turn tells him he forgot to bring lunch boxes this time.

Taichi suggests eating at the cafeteria because it’s cheaper. Kouhei is hesitant but goes with him. Kouhei goes to buy meal tickets while Taichi is contemplating which food to buy. But Kouhei ends up running into the girls from before who invite him to join their club. However, they are joined by some group of boys who start to bully Kouhei. Taichi sees them and gets angry. He punches the leader on the face leading to a huge fight.

Afterwards, Kouhei treat’s Taichi’s wounds. Then as they are leaving, he asks him why he stepped in and hit his bullies when it wasn’t his business, especially considering he didn’t hear them. However, Taichi retorts that although he can’t hear, it doesn’t give anyone the right to say mean things to him. He should stick up for himself since it isn’t his fault he is deaf. The episode ends as the two stare at each other.

The second episode begins with a flashback of Kouhei suffering a high fever after his high school graduation but after he recovered, he suddenly realized he couldn’t hear well. He and his mother went to a doctor who told them he would have to start wearing hearing aid as it would be difficult for his hearing loss to recover.

Ever since then, he suffered loneliness from his peers as he wasn’t able to hear their conversation. From then on, he decided to stay away from his old friends.

Now in the present, Taichi meets him as soon as he enters school. He had been calling him for a while and Kouhei explains he can’t hear sounds from behind him. He wants to eat Kouhei’s lunch box since he is very hungry. Kouhei promises to give him after class. That day, Taichi is very serious while taking notes so much so that he tells the professor to slow down while talking.

As Taichi eats, Kouhei can’t seem to understand some of the things he wrote. He realizes that Taichi isn’t perfect being a note taker but can’t get mad as he is so funny while eating. He laughs so hard when Taichi talks about getting punished for eating such a delicious meal. Taichi immediately notes that it’s the first time he has seen Kouhei smile and compliments him, adding that he looks much better when he smiles. This make Kouhei surprised but he smiles to himself.

But that day, Kouhei feels disillusioned when playing basketball ball with his mates. They don’t play seriously with him thinking he will get hurt after noticing his hearing aid falling off one time. He decides not to play again and sits on his own. Suddenly, he hears Taichi’s voice and sees him playing with his friends. He leaves ignoring Taichi when he calls out to him. Kouhei doesn’t want to get too close thinking he and Taichi are from opposite worlds.

The next day, Kouhei’s mom is unable to make him breakfast because she drank too much at a concert last night so he isn’t able to bring a packed lunch.

After his class, Kouhei sees Taichi and is about to approach him when his friends suddenly appears, talking to Taichi about a movie script they are writing. Kouhei then walks past Taichi ignoring his greeting. Taichi wonders about his behavior.

Meanwhile, Kouhei believes Taichi is only with him because of what he can gain. If not, he had no reason to hang with him. Suddenly, Taichi runs up to him upset that he has being ignoring him since the previous day. Taichi tells him he didn’t bring a lunch box to which Taichi responds that he isn’t talking to him just to get lunch but at that precise moment, his stomach suddenly starts rumbling creating an amusing situation. Kouhei then offers to eat lunch with him and Taichi suggests ramen.

On their way, Taichi notices Kouhei is suddenly happy and asks about it but Taichi doesn’t mention the reason. Later, he ends up playing basketball with Taichi and his nice friends who play with him fair and square without judgement. After that, Taichi and Kouhei end up playing with water at the tap. Now, Kouhei feels more confident thanks to Taichi who has made him realize he could finally belong at the other side.
