Red Swan Episodes 3-4 Recaps

Episode 3 begins with Do Yoon meeting Wan Soo. She wants him gone because he makes her uncomfortable but Do Yoon insists on staying beside her to protect her convinced that her attack wasn’t caused by terrorists. He tells her about his friend’s death believing it’s the same people who killed him that are after her. Wan Soo refuses to believe him and when she’s about leaving, Do Yoon tries to stop her but she shakes away his hand.

By himself, Do Yoon recalls how the commissioner general of police assigned him and his late friend Juhyuk secret missions to spy on the president and report only to him about the secret funds of wealthy conglomerates but when Juhyuk ended up dying, he closed the case. Do Yoon pleaded with him to investigate it again so his friend’s death wouldn’t be in vain but the commissioner general refused citing that there were no leads.

Now, in the present time, Do Yoon escorts Wan Soo to her office. There, she tells her brother about her husband’s affair but he is already aware of it. She intends for NOW to become an international organization so that her mother in law wouldn’t be able to use her charity to launder money. Her brother is highly against it and asks if she had informed her mother in law. Wan Soo’s silence unsettles him and he asks if she was attacked after she refused to help her mother in law. When she admits it, her brother simply says that the Chairwoman wouldn’t hurt her. He then refuses to give Wan Soo the account books.

From there, Wan Soo meets with Jang Tae Ra. Both women confront each other about the affair and Tae Ra admits that her son Jung hee belongs to Yong Kook. Wang Soo already knows that but still refuses to divorce her husband. Annoyed, Tae Ra then reveals that Yong Kook didn’t marry her out of love but to cover up his scandal where his former celebrity girlfriend was found dead when he woke up beside her. Her death was due to a drug overdose. Yong Kook was afraid of a backlash and so married Wang Soo who had a good image in order to save his reputation. Wang Soo appears shaken by this but still refuses to divorce her husband telling Tae Ra she would remain a concubine forever.

She returns home in a foul mood only for her mother in law chairwoman Park to tell her she wants Yong Kook’s illegitimate son Jung hee to move into their house to which Wang Soo vehemently disagrees. That night, Yong Kook speaks with her hurt by her nonchalance after finding out about his son and his affair. Wang Soo asks why he married her and he says it’s because he fell in love with her at first sight. He refuses to divorce her, determined to be by her side. Wang Soo decides to give him a chance as long as he takes Tae Ra and her son to Switzerland. Yong Kook wants to ask permission from his mother but Wang Soo insists he can do this by himself. But Yong Kook can’t citing that he has never been responsible for anything in his life and that’s how it has always been. He leaves Wan Soo feeling disappointed.

The next day, Wan Soo is shocked to find that Chairwoman Park wants to take a family portrait with Jung hee. She immediately confronts her mother in law about this and she tells her to raise Jung hee as her own son. After all, she never publicized the news of her son Chan hee’s death so everyone would think Jung hee was hers. If she doesn’t like it, she can bear another child. But Wan Soo is fine with Jung hee being the family’s heir but she can never bring herself to have him replace her real son. In the end, Wan Soo has no choice but to agree to the charade and the family photo is taken.

Afterwards at work, Wan Soo learns from her secretary Ms Yoon that a reporter is looking into her son’s skiing incident suspecting he is actually dead. She requests that Ms Yoon ensure the reporter is stopped. But on getting home, she’s astounded to discover from the housekeeper Ms Byeon that Jung hee’s things are being moved to her son’s room. Wan Soo is devastated and leaves the house telling Ms Byeon she wouldn’t be receiving calls for a while. Ms Byeon calls Do Yoon requesting him to look after Wan Soo.

Do Yoon finds Wang Soo outside the gate in her car where she almost hits an incoming truck. Without seeking permission, he enters Wan Soo’s car much to her surprise. She wants him out because she wants to be alone but Do Yoon is worried about her and insists on staying, saying she can pretend he isn’t with her. So she drives to a beach where she looks out onto the sea as Do Yoon watches a few meters away from her.

As they return to the car, Do Yoon cleans her feet and helps wear her shoes for her. Wan Soo is quite frozen by his action. She then tells him she doesn’t trust people. She doesn’t trust him and if he wants her to believe what he said about an attack on her life, he should bring evidence. Do Yoon promises to do so in time. She also tells him not to cross the line and simply do his duty as her bodyguard. Do Yoon agrees to that.

They drive to the vacation home in an uncomfortable silence only to find Yong Kook waiting, knowing Wan soo would come there. He wants them to have another child but Wan Soo refuses stressing that he only married her to cover up his scandal. But Yong Kook replies that it’s what his mother thinks but that he really loves her. He then proceeds to force himself on her. Her screams attract Do Yoon who notices the tussle between the couple from the glass window. He rushes inside and stops Yong Kook, while grabbing him tightly. Angry, Wan Soo leaves with him. However, Yong Kook watches them go feeling suspicious of their relationship.

The next morning, Wan Soo’s secretary tells her that her husband just returned that morning and is heading to work but that isn’t true. He is actually with a woman in a hotel. Tae Ra enters his hotel room with Mr Park’s permission and chases the naked woman away while Yong Kook is asleep. When he awakens, she asks him if Wan Soo agreed to have another child with him but he is grumpy and doesn’t answer her.

Meanwhile, the other bodyguard, Jin hee shows Do Yoon around Hwain company building before bringing him to the basement where a sparring session between body guards are taking place. Mr Park is supervising the session. He introduces Do Yoon to the guards and then has him face against the strongest body guard in a fight. Do Yoon easily beats him which makes the other guards happy but the other embarrassed. He wants a rematch. This time, they box each other and Do Yoon beats him again displaying skills that impresses everyone including Mr Park.

After the fight, Mr Park congratulates him but then gets uncomfortable when Do Yoon starts asking questions about Yong Kook and Jun hee. He also asks about Wan Soo’s son but Mr Park replies that he’s studying in Switzerland and that he should act as if he doesn’t know anything. He then asks why he wants to know all these. Do Yoon replies that someone in the intelligence bureau wants to know. Mr Park gets on edge and tells him to tell that person to find the information from news articles online.

Before leaving, Do Yoon gets surveillance footage from the company’s staff.  At home, he checks out the footage and discovers that the late chairman didn’t die at the Grand palace (The house) as claimed. He was murdered somewhere else. Do Yoon realises that his friend Juhyuk died while uncovering the truth about his father

In Episode 4 body guard Jin hee catches Do Yoon leaving the cctv room where he had secretly gone to get some footage. He lies that he was looking for the butler. She tells him Yong Kook is asking for him but as he leaves, she seems suspicious. Upon meeting Yong Kook, he asks him if it’s proper as a body guard to meddle in his clients affairs and hold them violently but Do Yoon apologizes citing he only tried to protect both of them. Yong Kook prides himself over not being a bully and begs Do Yoon to go easy on him next time.

That night, Do yoon checks through the footage when he finally comes across a video of Yong kook in his office giving Mr Park large bundles of cash. Do yoon wonder what that huge amount of money is for? Meanwhile, Wan soo is unhappy with the Housekeeper Byeon for storing her son’s things in another room. She wants everything locked up. When Chairwoman Park learns of this, she is furious but doesn’t make a force instead with the help of her lawyer Mr Han, she tries to make Wan soo resign from being the director of NOW organization, determined to make her second son Yongmin take over the position but with her brother’s help, Wan Soo retaliates by leaking news about her husband’s affair and illegitimate son to the public. This shocks the entire family and the paparazzi hounds them.

Tae ra and her mother come to complain about the rumor to Wan soo at her office but she acts unbothered telling them they must be happy about the news leak. They try to hide it, suggesting to Wan soo to do an interview where she clarifies the truth. Later, Tae ra and Wan soo enter the family meeting. Chairwoman Park sends Tae ra out but then she tells the others to be silent on the matter. Their stock prices have plummeted due to the scandal as everyone thinks that Wan soo might actually divorce her husband. She wants Wan Soo to stay out of the public eye. However, Wan soo wants her to stop the resignation process to which she refuses, ordering her to stay home.

Wan soo orders her secretary Ms Yoon to schedule a press conference. Ms Yoon wants to inform the chairwoman first but Wan soo threatens she would get someone else.

The next day, the press conference is already set except that Chairwoman Park is wasting Wan Soo’s time by having them speak with a female minister. But Wan soo manages to excuse herself to go to the bathroom but then with Do Yoon’s help, they sneak away. At the press conference, she denies the affair but shocks everyone by announcing that the rumored illegitimate child actually belongs to her late father in law. Chairwoman Park is stunned by this but lawyer Han seems impressed as he can’t help but smile secretly while Chairwoman is in disbelief. Tae ra and her mother are in shock whereas Yong min and his wife find the news amusing. Yong min especially as he laughs hard at the situation while Yong Kook laughs hysterically.

Wan soo returns home to meet a furious Chairwoman Park who asks her what her deal is. When she replies that she wants to change the world having learned from living a life of poverty, Chairwoman Park ridicules her pointing out that she is a parasite leaving off her money but Wan soo reminds her that she does more work for the business than her own son and that she is the face of Hwain group. Chairwoman Park insists that Hwain belongs to her. She orders her to resign and never to take part in Hwain’s business again but Wan soo threatens that she would hold another conference where she will expose her illegal activities through the organization. She warns her to stop sullying her life’s work. Chairwoman Park realizes she is threatening to expose the secret slush fund. Chairwoman Park warns her of the consequences but Wan soo is willing to take the risk for the sake of her foundation.

Meanwhile, Mr Park scolds Do yoon for letting Wan soo hold the press conference. Do yoon apologizes but then requests permission to oversee the CCTV in order to protect Yong kook. Mr Park suspects that he might be aiming for his position but Do yoon assures him that isn’t the case. Do yoon then runs into lawyer Han who congratulates him for taking care of Wan soo.

In the next few days, Jung hee and Tae ra arrive at the mansion. Upon meeting Wan soo and Chairwoman Park, things are tense. Chairwoman Park tells Wan Soo to take them to their rooms. Before leaving, Wan soo calls Tae ra a mistress which angers her after finding out from her mother that it’s another word for concubine. She argues with Wan soo in front of Jung hee making him uncomfortable. Wan Soo has Jung hee leave but then puts Tae ra in her place warning her not to join the family for meals and that she never wants to see her around the house. Tae ra agrees, intimidated by her.

That night, Wan soo meets Do yoon to join her for a run. They stop at a park and she asks if he thinks she is pathetic for letting her husband’s mistress and their son live in her house. Do yoon is disappointed that she didn’t use the press conference as an opportunity to end her unhappy marriage. He asks her what she wants to protect by hanging on to the marriage. She recalls when her father in law had taken her handprint for a bank account promising she would know what it is for when the time is right. He had urged her not to divorce even though what happened to her son is enough reason to.

However, she only tells Do yoon it is to protect the foundation even at the risk of losing her life. But Do yoon eventually loses his cool yelling as he asks her if she wants to die. He then reveals that her father in law didn’t die in the grand palace as claimed and that someone in her house wants her dead. His friend was killed while investigating his death and he has videos to prove it. Wan Soo is surprised.

The next day, Ms Yoon brings Wan soo a bottle of expensive wine which Chairwoman Park wants her to personally take to her second son Yongmin. She is reluctant so Do yoon grabs it from Ms yoon suggesting they go despite her hesitance. Upon arriving at the house, Wan soo decides to take the wine from Do yoon, her fingers brushing past his hand for a second. She leaves him outside and goes inside the house where she meets Yongmin’s arrogant wife. She purposely causes the wine to break claiming it’s due to her slippery fingers and shows off to Wan soo by making her white butler Daniel get the exact same type from their cellar.

Both families have dinner and Yongmin’s wife gets irritated at the praises conferred on Wan soo by even her own parents. However, they are stunned when they learn that Wan soo has not finalized the business deal with china to make the family of Yong min’s wife do business there. In private, Chairwoman Park confronts her for this. However, Wan soo agrees to speed up the deal as long as she stops interfering with her foundation.

Meanwhile, the maids at the mansion gossip about how the house keeper Ms Byeon was a graduate from Seoul national university yet only attends to Chairwoman Park because her father sponsored her education. Ms Byeon catches them gossiping but isn’t offended as they ask her why she chose to live her life like this. She simply responds that the people in the house need her services. They ask how they should address Tae ra and she responds that they should call her mistress like how Wan soo does. This causes the maids to laugh. Just then, Tae ra enters acting rude to Ms Byeon as she tells her she wants to pick out a new private tutor for her son. Ms Byeon clarifies that it’s her job to do that because she can’t let just anyone into the house and that she should find something to do for herself. As she leaves, Tae ra is in disbelief especially when called mistress by one of the maids.

(Hate her or not but Tae ra is cute. No denying that.)

At the opening ceremony of an orphanage, the press is shocked to find that both Wan soo and her mother in law are wearing the same dress made by Stephanie, a fashion designer. Chairwoman Park is shocked by this. They are forced to take pictures together and act sweet to the cameras. After this, Chairwoman Park takes her anger out on the guards by dueling with them during Judo. She isn’t able to release her stress since she beats all of them. She then turns to Do yoon and he ends up defeating her but she clings to him seemingly attracted to his nice scent. The scene makes the rest of the body guards uncomfortable. Chairwoman Park says she can tell a person from their scent but he has a sweet scent unlike that of a poor person but Do yoon insists he came from an ordinary family and was an ordinary cop. Chairwoman Park doesn’t seem to believe him but likes that he didn’t let her win like the others. She feels better now and orders her bodyguard to give them all a nice dinner tonight.

She orders Lee Jin to have Wan soo meet with her and walks to her room rejuvenated as she smells Do yoon’s scent still left on her. Later that day, Chairwoman Park cringes at the awkward photo she took with Wan soo which is on the internet. Wan soo meets with her and she gives her a shocking revelation, that her mother whom she hasn’t spoken to in ten years is locked up in a psychiatric hospital and that she would soon die. If the news about her were revealed, it would damage Wan Soo’s reputation. Wan Soo knows it’s her mother in law’s doing but she has no proof of that.

Do yoon drives Wan soo and her brother to the psychiatric hospital which looks more like a prison. She wants to see her mother alone so her brother waits in the car. She goes inside to see her but a few minutes later, Do yoon rushes over when he hears Wan soo scream. Her mother is about to die.

A lot has happened but the pivot of the episodes is the obvious discord between mother and daughter in law, both trying to outdo each other. Wan Soo won the first round by announcing to the world that her husband’s illegitimate son actually belonged to her father in law (That’s hilariously smart) thereby turning things around but then Chairwoman Park delivers her hidden scheme, Wan Soo’s mother whom she abandoned for ten years. I know the woman was horrible but how can you not care what happens to your own mother for ten whole years. When you find out she’s been in hell all these while, you suddenly feel sorry? I don’t pity Wan Soo here. She should take whatever punishment she gets from this.

As for our bodyguard, do you think his background is a mystery considering Chairwoman Park’s suspicion. We have no idea who his family is so that might be another reveal that will shock everyone. Wan Soo is trying so hard not to fall for him but she will inevitably lose and I hope she leaves her shabby marriage of convenience and pursues her true happiness. Whatever her father in law had planned for her should appear soon so that our heroine would finally know her fate.
