The Midnight Romance In Hagwon Episode 5 Recap

Director Choi is surprised to hear that Hye Jin and Jun ho taught only one student, Si woo. She is curious to hear from Si woo how it went when she meets him next week.

Hye Jin’s friend So young tells her husband she notices that Hye Jin acts like her old self when ever she’s around Jun ho but her husband thinks it’s normal.

After seeing Cheong mi off, Hye Jin and Jun ho talk at a park. She tells Jun ho that things would get difficult for her at the academy and that should such happen, she would handle it herself but Jun ho refuses to let her take the fall on her own.

Unsurprisingly the next day, her boss and the vice president deals her a harsh blow. They are giving her class over to Choi and Jun ho for them to teach. Choi is not okay with this since she wanted her own class not to steal Hye Jin’s.

Jun ho is confused thinking it’s because of the failed lecture. However, Hye Jin assures him that isn’t the case. They have been looking for an opportunity to kick her out of the academy long ago because they are threatened by her influence, afraid that if she decides to leave one day, she would take many of their students with her. This was just an excuse for them. Hye Jin tries to act tough but in her private time, she’s actually scared.

Mr Pyo is still hell bent on his after class and giving students questions from the text books, making it easy so they don’t go to the academies. But the other teachers try to convince him against such because the children’s educational standards wouldn’t be well evaluated. Director Choi have held a special seminar with parents from Chanyoung high to convince them to send their kids over. Unfortunately, her strategy seems to be working.

Hye Jin hands over her material to Cheong mi and Jun ho. Cheong mi is unhappy with the situation and advices her to launch a complaint against the management for trying to destroy her career.

Si woo gives Director Choi’s assistant Mr Park his notes from Hye Jin’s lectures and she doesn’t like what she sees. She has Mr Park call him and when he arrives, asks him what he liked about Hye Jin’s lecture. Si woo gets honest with her and responds that he really doesn’t like Korean and only forces himself to learn it. However, Hye Jin’s lecture made it easier for him to understand and now, he feels he could learn easily and can can challenge himself to write a literature critic. Director Choi suddenly gets brutal reminding him that he’s to become a doctor and so shouldn’t get sentimental and focus on grades. Si woo gets a bit scared and tells her he would be switching academies. Director Choi is upset at this and asks if he has told other students. We don’t get an answer and we see Si woo leaving the building whispering to himself that Director Choi is scary.

Director Choi then calls Hye Jin to meet with her at her academy that night. Without telling anyone, Hye Jin meets her. After exchanging awkward pleasantries, Director Choi takes Hye jin to an empty room and starts rambling on and on about how she worked as a teacher before setting up her own academy because she wanted power and authority. Hye Jin asks her why she brought her to the room and Director Choi tells her it’s the office of the vice president. She has been looking for someone to fill that position and now, she wants Hye Jin to take it. Not only that, since she has no husband or child, she would like to leave the academy to her after she retires. Hye Jin can sense this is because Si woo wants to leave her academy. Director Choi doesn’t deny it and asks if she would like to sign a contract with her promising her enough money thah she could get at Daechi chase. Hye Jin tells her she would think about it.

While the others leave for a team dinner, Jun ho remains at the academy when he suddenly recieves a call from Hye Jin. They meet at the office and she tells him Si woo and his friends would be transferring to their academy. This excites Jun ho. But then, he asks where she learned that from. That’s when Hye Jin tells him about Director Choi’s offer. Jun ho asks her if she was overjoyed to get such a proposal. Hye Jin doesn’t respond right away.

She gives Jun ho an answer when she is dropping him off at his apartment. She admits she wasn’t that excited since she felt someone of her caliber deserved such an offer. They part ways with Jun ho asking Hye Jin to text him. However, both feel slightly saddened. Hye Jin goes home and finds herself staring at her picture with Jun ho. Jun ho waits for her text but in the end, neither of them communicate with each other.

The next morning, So Young gets the contract from Director Choi. However, she gives it to her friend So Young who is a lawyer. Her friend encourages her to take the offer but Hye Jin doesn’t understand why she feels reluctant to leave despite the fact that her academy wants to kick her out. If it were before, she would have long abandoned them without any remorse but now she couldn’t explain her feelings. So young is perplexed but decides to support her in whatever she chooses to do.

Jun ho is upset to see his poster with Hye Jin get removed from the bill board. He calls Hye Jin and they both take a stroll. He doesn’t want her to leave and is willing to recruit many students not for himself but for her. Hye Jin is surprised at the length he would go to keep her but Jun ho seems quite serious.

Boss, vice president and Ms Kim are surprised when Lee Si woo arrives for a consultation. A staff informs Hye Jin and Jun ho. They are excited but to Jun ho’s surprise, Hye Jin allows him to be in charge of Lee Si woo. Everyone waits in anticipation for the outcome. Hye jin even has to take a break from her class to find out if Lee Si woo is actually transferring. After a while, Jun ho escorts Lee Si woo out and after he leaves, announces to everyone that Si woo would be transferring and attending their new class with his friends. Everyone is delighted and thanks Hye Jin and Jun ho.

However, as they disperse, The boss and Hye Jin lock eyes. While the Boss looks regretful, Hye Jin has a triumphant smile on her face.

The series is getting better and better. Instead of focusing on the romance earlier on, they are trying to build a nice comradeship between the two first and it’s really nice to see. For now, I have zero complaints on the show. It’s realistic and straight forward.
