Chief Detective Episode 6 Recap

In the future, Yeonghan’s grandson Jun seo comes to him at his store. He asks him for advice in capturing a criminal who killed his family but always ends up escaping police custody. Yeonghan tells him that he has to be more tenacious than the criminal.

Back to the past in 1961, Yeonghan and his team capture a group of criminals mixing saw dust with Corn flour to sell to people. But upon returning to the station with them, he sees Namin arguing with detective Oh who tries to force her to become his slave. Namin tells Yeonghan that the office has been in an uproar for sometime. When they enter, Chief Byun yells at them for focusing on idle things instead of catching the rebels who are against the present government. He tells them to keep the criminals they caught else where since the cells are full. Chief Byun is now a senior inspector while inspector Hwang is now a Police chief no doubt due to their corruptive ways.

Chief Yu comes to the station to tell his men that a group of criminals, the thugs leaders have been sentenced to death. Meanwhile, superintendent Chief Choi meets with Commander Baek and tells him that he would make him the senior superintendent of Jongnam police station once he’s promoted to deputy director of the national police as long as Commander Baek helps Sinkwang society, the secret club he belongs to take care of a big problem.

That’s how Chief Yu gets stabbed in that dark narrow hallway. Yeonghan is at home with Hyeju when Hojeong bangs at his door to tell him what happened. They two rush to the hospital where they meet with the rest who are waiting in front of the operation room. In shock, Yeonghan barges into the theater and sees Chief Yu unconscious, his body covered in blood. Yeonghan is sent out by the nurse. A few moments later, the operating doctor comes out to tell them Chief Yu survived but is still unconscious and that he will no longer be able to walk properly. This leaves the team disillusioned.

They ponder over how they would break the sad news to Chief Yu’s daughter whose mother died barely three years ago

They plan to interrogate Lee Jungjae’s gang ignoring Chief Byun’s orders. On their way, they come across Detective Oh who excitedly tells them that Chief Choi is now the deputy director of the national police but the group could care less. They raid Lee Jung jae’s thugs den but get nothing. They claim innocence, insisting that they don’t stab, they only fight with their fist. They even arrest Rattle snake who has retired from gangster life. He insists that he wasn’t responsible and tells them that someone who can stab so precisely without causing death could only be someone from special forces or the military. This gives Yeonghan a new scoop.

He holds a meeting with the others and while they are discussing, detective Oh calls them for a meeting. There, Chief Byun announces that a new senior superintendent would be resuming office the next day. He tells them to prepare well for it. However, Yeonghan calls them all out for getting excited without caring about Chief Yu’s welfare since not one of them had visited him in the hospital. He tells them to stick to their dirty game. He would take care of things by himself.

Yeonghan meets Hyeju at the hospital and thanks fury her looking after Chief Yu. Hyeju doesn’t mind at all. Chief Yu is still unconscious so she assures him he will wake up.

An exaggerated parade welcome is set up for the new senior superintendent by Chief Byun, Hwang and unit three Chief. This totally amuses Sang sun who sees the three as clowns. When Yeong Han sees Commander Baek, he is shocked, recognizing him immediately of being the military driller who used to force him to kill innocent people when he was still a student soldier.

Commander Baek settles into his new office thinking of how he got the position by following Chief Choi’s orders. However, Yeonghan suddenly enters and his presence triggers Commander Baek who immediately recognizes him. However, Yeonghan openly shows his animosity towards him and Commander Baek tries to belittle him. But it’s clear they will never see eye to eye.

Yeong han relays what happened to the others and they are surprised that someone like that ended up being their boss. No doubt, because of Captain Choi. They get shocked when Namin who has been locking herself at the drawer joins their conversation. She tells them that she noticed something odd with Chief Yu, which is that whenever they went out on a mission, he would post a letter to somewhere and Captain three’s chief would follow him.

The group waste no time and immediately cramp unit Three’s chief threatening to expose evidence of his bribes if he refuses to tell them the truth about why he kept following Chief Yu. Finally, he tells them to meet him in secret that night. At the appointed time, he relays the truth to them. Determined to stop Chief Choi from becoming deputy director, Chief Yu had secretly been sending letters to the Supreme council for national reconstruction, telling that Chief Choi was a pro Japanese supporter in a pro Japanese group called Sinkwang embedded in the national police. This was the reason why Chief Choi decided to get rid of him.

Meanwhile at a club, Chief Choi is getting himself acquainted with the rude children of influential figures in other to curry favor from their parents.

The next day, unbeknownst to the rest of the team, Yeonghan pays Chief Choi a visit shocking him by arresting him for the attempted murder of Chief Yu. Back at the station, Sang sun fights with a detective who tries to bully Namin. However, the man is a tough opponent so Gyeong Hwan uses his strength to pummel him until Commander Baek comes to separate them, no doubt taking the other detective’s side because he’s his supporter.

Later, Commander Baek goes to see Chief Yu at the hospital and secretly whispers to him that he should have killed him. Due to him, he got to enjoy a high position once again. He encounters Hyeju who introduces herself as Yeonghan’s wife. He shamelessly tries to flirt with her but she subtly Insults him. Just then, Chief Byun returns to tell him that Yeonghan has done something to cause a commotion.

Turns out that Chief Choi’s arrest didn’t go well. Yeonghan is the one who gets arrested. Chief Choi and Commander Baek barrage Yeonghan for having no evidence to prove Chief Choi ordered Chief Yu’s murderer but everyone is shocked when Chief Yu enters at that moment with Hyeju by his side.
