After getting stabbed, Sang Soo fidgets, unable to deliver the killing blow. The king’s eunuch decides to finish him off himself when Gap seok thankfully arrives just in time and saves him. The Eunuchs flee and Lee Gun begs Gap Seok to take him out of the palace despite the fact that he’s bleeding fast. He refuses to see a physician because he can’t trust anyone. Gap Seok unwillingly does as he says and sneaks out with him.
They meet with Myung Yoon who’s waiting outside and Lee Gun is surprised she turned out to be there. Fearful for his wounds, Myung hoon suggest they take him to a physician but Gap Seok refuses due to Lee Gun’s instructions but when the prince finally looses consciousness, he’s left with no other choice.
The king barges into the Queen dowager’s room demanding to know Lee Gun’s whereabouts. She acts clueless, asking if he has chosen to protect the crown prince. The King’s answer is obvious as he expresses his repulsion of her trying so to keep her ugly secret that it makes him sick. He tells her he is prepared for her and leaves, ordering his workers to begin a state of emergency, a tactic used for really dangerous times.
The alarm worries everyone in the Kingdom. The officials all gather in the palace. After hearing what happened, some like the magistrate believe Lee Gun had just gone to the gisaeng house again and his father is only trying to cover up for it. The queen’s father requests an audience with the king and meets him in Lee Gun’s room along with other officials where he longs for him, praying he’s safe and determined to protect him. They ask the reason for the state of emergency and the King pleads with them to trust his judgement. But they plead with him to call off the state of emergency because it’s mostly used in dire situations and the king gets angry with them that they do not think the kidnapping of the crown prince is a national emergency. He dismisses them immediately.
The queen who is uncomfortable and anxious is about to eat her meal but the taster who tastes her food suddenly dies from poisoning leaving the queen horrified. When the king learns of the poisoning incident, he rushes to the queen to comfort her. The Queen Dowager arrives as well claiming to arrive to take care of the queen. The king asks her how Lee Gun is. She subtly warns the king that what just happened to the queen would happen to each and everyone of the people he loves. So if he doesn’t want anyone to die, he should take back the state of emergency. The queen is confused by their conversation and the Queen Dowager simply tells her it’s best she remain in the dark. The king reluctantly pulls back the order, making the officials think he was pulling a prank on them.
The King speaks with prince Dosung privately and orders him to go to Lord Choi’s house and ask him to find the owner of the needle canister so that they could get the queen’s weakness. Dosung does as he says and leaves that night. But when he arrives at Lord Choi’s house, he meets Myung Yoon who is about to leave to attend to Lee Gun. He knows her but is surprised to discover she’s Lord Choi’s daughter. Myung Yoon excuses herself because she has someplace to be. However, Dosung is happy to know where she lives because he has been in love with her ever since she saved him from a poisonous snake. He had chased her ever since then and witnessed all her good and bad experiences while working at the clinic.
Myung Yoon returns to take care of Lee Gun at the gisaeng house she put him in because there was no available physician. She believes her father must have been responsible for his present state. Lee Gun finally awakes from unconsciousness. He is surprised that a maid like her has medical skills. Myung Yoon leaves him with Gap seok and he reveals that his eunuch Sang Soo had told him of the murder attempt before hand so that he could save him. He purposely didn’t stab at a fatal place and it’s the reason he didn’t die. They understand he may have been blackmailed and the two decide to keep their whereabouts a secret.
Dosung finally meets with Lord Choi and after exchanging pleasantries, he asks if he knows the owner of the needle canister. Lord Choi responds that it belongs to physician Heo Jin soo who is in charge of the queen’s quarters, the one who had the autopsy done on the two maids. However, when Dosung visits him the next morning, he’s shocked to find that Heo Jin Soo had committed suicide by hanging.
The news apparently upset the queen dowager very much as she can be seen wailing. Dosung reports to the king of Heo Jin soo’s suicide. They both believe that he must have taken his own life to protect the queen dowager. The king wonders what she would do after this. Dosung visits his mother and she’s still in shock over the poisoning incident but becomes excited when Dosung informs her that he has a girl he intends to marry and promises to tell her about her once they are finished with the queen dowager problem. The queen understands, saying the crown prince would have to marry before him. She then wonders how he’s doing.
Lee Gun is nearly recovered and as usual, teases Myung Yoon, asking her how it’s possible she can remain so calm while dressing up the wounds of a man like him. She responds that she only sees him as her patient but he tells her he’s different because he’s her husband. She refuses to tell him her name so he makes up a name for her Baek gu which leaves Myung Yoon fuming and laughing at the same time. He tells her he has to go somewhere important and when Myung Yoon expresses her refusal due to his wounds, he offers that she come with him to meet Lord Choi. She becomes even more sensitive and Lee Gun feels she’s hiding something important from him.
The seer maintains to Lord Choi that either the crown prince or Myung Yoon would die if they get married so Lord Choi makes a drastic decision, to replace the crown prince. Myung Yoon and Lee Gun bid each other farewell. Lee Gun hopes to see her again but she insists that would never happen because this would be their last meeting. When she leaves, Lee Gun is hurt that she didn’t look back once, unaware that she’s just waiting for him to go so that she can hurry back home. Meanwhile, Gap seok warns Lee Gun against falling for a mere maid.
Myung Yoon manages to reach home before her father and tells Oh wol to dress up as her and meet with Lee Gun. When they meet Oh wol disguised as Lord Choi’s daughter, Gap seok is less than impressed with her looks and clumsy manners considering she would be marrying the prince but Lee Gun tells him not the judge. The three sit down to talk and Oh wol’s lack of refinement is obvious although she tries to hide it, worried that he would recognize that they were the ones who kidnapped him.
When Lord Choi arrives, Oh wol quickly meets with him before he enters the house and he’s angry she’s wearing his daughter’s clothes. But Oh wol explains that the man they abducted is at the house. Lord Choi then meets with Lee Gun and he asks him if he has found out the man who owned the needle canister and Lord Choi responds it’s Heo Jin soo but he has already committed suicide. Lee Gun is unhappy with the news.
When Lee Gun and Gap seok leave, Oh wol notice Ma Beom following them. Lord Choi tells Myung Yoon that he plans to kill the Crown Prince so she can live. Myung Yoon is dissapointed to hear this and doesn’t trust the seer but Lord Choi responds that a father can do anything for his child and that she shouldn’t think he wasn’t aware that she helped Lee Gun escape the house. He warns her listen to what he says.
Myung Yoon comes back that night to tell Lord Choi that he has Lee Gun and Gap seok tied up while Oh wol tells Myung Yoon she knows where they are. Meanwhile, Lee Gun and Gap seok try to figure out who must have kidnapped them this time. The queen Dowager visits her lover at her usual spot and finally, we are shown his face. It’s Lord Choi (I wasn’t so surprised) He tells her he plans to kill the crown prince. The queen dowager prefers him to be kept hidden as she fears the king’s rage if anything were to happen to Lee Gun but Lord Choi reminds her of the reason they wanted to make Myung Yoon Queen in the first place. For that to happen, Lee Gun must die.
That night, Myung Yoon dresses in all black, covering her face with a black scarf and attacks the men keeping Lee Gun hostage. She then enters the room where he’s in and loosens the rope tying him and Gap seok. Lee Gun, surprised asks who it is that’s saving him and when Myung Yoon reveals her face, he is taken aback, demanding to know who she really is.
