Episode 14 kicks off with Woo-jae feeling anxious about the video of Eun-sae being stabbed. He confronts Pan-ho about the incident and a flashback reveals Eun-sae’s pregnancy news to Pan-ho. Despite knowing about Na-ri, she still wants to be with Woo-jae.
Pan-ho confesses to ordering Eun-sae’s murder and also reveals his involvement in Ba-reun’s death. Woo-jae questions him about Jung-won’s father, leading to a tense meeting request. Pan-ho then instructs Secretary Gong to handle the situation discreetly.
Secretary Gong informs Woo-jae and Jung-won about a meeting with Chairman Jang for the resort project, but they decline due to Jung-won’s health issues.
Tae-heon recognizes Gong’s knife from a past incident and arranges to meet him for dinner. Jung-won expresses her determination to find the killer, while Tae-heon reminisces about his positive memories with Gong.
Assemblyman Mo suspects Pan-ho’s advantage and believes Tae-heon’s investigation could uncover crucial information. Woo-jae receives a call from his father, and Tae-heon discovers the date of Jung-won’s father’s death coinciding with a meal he had with Gong.
Secretary Gong cancels his dinner plans with Tae-heon, raising suspicions about his involvement in the past events.
Woo-jae arrives at his father’s place and pleads with him to confirm that he didn’t order the death of Jung won’s father, Seo Sang-gyeon. Pan-ho explains that Sang-gyeon had mistaken Woo-jae’s car for his and filmed a hit-and-run, blackmailing Pan-ho in the process. This led to Pan-ho ordering Sang-gyeon’s death. Woo-jae is devastated and regrets marrying Jung-won. Pan-ho warns him not to tell Jung-won the truth.
Myung-soo and Tae-heon have a drink and discuss the possibility of Gong Joon-ho being the culprit. Tae-heon is deeply hurt by the betrayal of someone he admired. The next day at the news station, Jung-won packs up Ba-reun’s belongings. Both the team and Jung-won are determined to find his killer.
Tae-heon receives the autopsy report for Lee Na-ri and connects it with Woo-jae’s account of the car accident. He and Myung-soo deduce that Pan-ho would have instructed Gong Joon-ho to cover up Na-ri’s death. Tae-heon knows that Gong needed money because of his sister’s rare illness.
Tae-heon visits Gong’s sister at the hospital, pretending it’s a coincidence. She reveals that she was diagnosed in 2009 and Gong was in debt. She was on the verge of suicide when Gong claimed to have found a sponsor, a chairman of a construction company.
Tae-heon updates Myung-soo on the situation. Just then, Jung-won arrives at the police station seeking more information, but Tae-heon chooses not to disclose what he knows. Suddenly, Tae-heon advises her to leave Woo-jae and his family, promising to help her escape from that situation.
As per Jung-won’s request, Myung-soo sends her pictures of Ba-reun’s notebook. She discovers something about her father in it. She then meets her boss, In-han, who had known her father in the past. She asks if he knows whether her father was investigating Bongto factory. In-han reveals that Sang-gyeon was looking into Mujin construction.
He also discloses that the Bongto fire greatly benefited Mujin company’s growth. Jung-won ponders whether either Pan-ho or Assemblyman Mo could have been involved in Sang-gyeon’s murder, considering their connections to the project
She returns home and starts going through her father’s belongings. Among them, she discovers a notebook with the words Mueon Cartel written in it, leading her to believe it’s related to Pan-ho and Mo Hyung-taek. Just then, Pan-ho contacts Jung-won to arrange a meeting.
In a flashback to three years ago, Woo-jae assists Jung-won in a case against a director from Mujin company. During that time, he mentioned that his father prefers paper documents over digital ones.
In the present, Pan-ho informs Jung-won that he will continue pressuring her with articles and threats until she moves back in with Woo-jae. Despite Woo-jae’s objections, Jung-won agrees to return. She surprises everyone by saying she’ll come the next day, all part of her plan to gather evidence against Pan-ho.
As they depart, Jung-won expresses to Woo-jae her preference for staying in that house due to the memories of her abduction in the other one. Woo-jae reveals he has already put that house up for sale. Meanwhile, Myung-soo and Tae-heon tail Gong Joon-ho, discussing the need to find his knife.
Later on, In-han introduces Jung-won to another reporter investigating corruption at Mujin. The reporter shares details about a truck accident that obstructed fire trucks from reaching a burning factory. The only lead was a burner phone used by the truck driver. The reporter agrees to connect Jung-won with the imprisoned driver.
Tae-heon observes Jung-won moving her belongings into Pan-ho’s residence. Inside, she is greeted by Gong Joon-ho. Shortly after, the reporter informs Jung-won that the truck driver died by suicide in prison a decade ago. Outside, Tae-heon trails Gong as he leaves.
A staff member warns Jung-won about a locked room adjacent to Pan-ho’s study. Under the guise of delivering flowers to the chairman’s study, Jung-won heads upstairs and notices the locked door. She then searches the study and finds locked drawers. Pan-ho arrives and cryptically mentions he knows the reason behind her appearance.
He cautions her about any funny business. Later, the reporter who had called earlier contacts Jung-won and informs her that she has obtained information about the truck driver’s mother. The woman expresses her desire to meet, and Jung-won agrees to the meeting.
While Tae-heon is keeping an eye on Gong, he receives a call from Myung-soo. Myung-soo informs him that a man has arrived at the police station and confessed to Lee Ba-reun’s murder. Tae-heon decides to directly confront Gong, accusing him of all the murders. He pleads with Gong to surrender himself, but Gong refuses. As Tae-heon attempts to search him for the knife, a fight ensues between them. Despite finding the knife, the fight continues, and unfortunately, Tae-heon ends up being stabbed.
