Midnight Studio Episode 5 Recap

After confirming she sees ghosts by seeing Seung ho and Baek Nam ku, Han Bom becomes confident of herself. She feels she’ll be be protected given that she has the safe zone protection guarding her. Despite that, Ki Joo is worried gives her a protection kit and his cell phone number instructing her not to call him unless it’s for an emergency but of course, Han Bom calls him every chance that she gets.

She wants to know everything about ghosts almost to the extent Ki joo gets frustrated and enlists the help of Seung ho and Baek Nam ku to search every records they have in their study and discover if such an occurrence which has happened to Han Bom had taken place before. At first, Seung ho refuses, upset that Han Bom doesn’t remember him but Ki joo promises to burn a nice jersey so he can wear.

Meanwhile, Ki Joo has stopped answering Han Bom’s calls leaving her frustrated. Just then, she gets a call from her friend Attorney Kang mi to visit a client in the hospital who got duped of money.

Meanwhile, Ki Joo and the other two discuss. He still can’t understand why Han Bom is so different from others. Seung ho responds that she sees ghosts like him. It could be why Ki Joo’s giving her preferential treatment and taking care of her, even giving her the protective kit. But Ki Joo denies giving her preferential treatment, claiming he was only worried. He and Baek Nam ku leave to take care of a job while Seung ho still feels bitter working because he suffered a heart attack due to overworking which eventually led to his death. He wasn’t even able to meet with his chatting buddy that night. He wonders who his real chatting buddy is  since Han Bom keeps denying it.

Meanwhile, Han Bom’s friend Kim Ji won is at the hospital. She is shocked to find that all the money in her bank account was wiped away. She is even more surprised when she learns that her cancer has been miraculously cured. Instead of being happy, Kim Ji won nearly runs mad with anger because she had sold everything she had to travel the world. How would she be able to start all over again?

Han Bom heads to the hospital to see the client who was duped. She sees the woman on her hospital bed and talks to her. However, she gets the shock of her life when a nurse tells her that the woman has already died. The woman’s ghosts and a bunch of others start chasing her. Han Bom, horrified, runs away, screaming Ki Joo’s name.

Thinking she has lost them, Han Bom stops for a breather and a handsome man approaches her to ask for her number but soon enough just as Han Bom is about to give him her number, he changes to his ghostly appearance and Han Bom runs away in fear. Ji won visits Han Bom but her fear of ghosts is apparent as she had poured salt and other anti ghosts items in front of her door leaving Ji won laughing at her. This makes Han Bom empathize with Ki Joo when just like Ji won, she had mocked Ki Joo.

Ki Joo comes with good news. She doesn’t tell Han Bom about her cancer or how she miraculously got cured. Instead, she tells her she has gotten a new job. Han Bom is so happy for her and doesn’t mind when Ji won asks to live with her. She even suggests they share a room together. Ki Joo later tells Han Bom that when she fell sick because of her grandmother, it was Ki Joo who took care of her.

Meanwhile, Ki Joo is humiliated at a burial ceremony by the family of the deceased after he tells them that their late mother wanted to reunite with her husband. Her children physically assault him and demand he leave. They cannot believe what he’s saying because their father was a useless drunk and a gambler. When Ki Joo returns home, Han Bom meets him to complain about him not returning her calls but stops herself after seeing how he looks. Instead she comforts him and when Ki Joo apologises to her, saying it’s his fault that she now sees ghosts, Han Bom tells him not to feel that way. Perharps, she is seeing ghosts now so that he can have at least one person who understands, someone who will compliment him. She also thanks him for taking care of her while she was sick and pats his head, making Ki Joo feel strange.

After she leaves, Han Bom is suddenly reminded of the female ghost child he knew so many years ago who had comforted him just like Han Bom had.

It turns out that Ji Won’s work place happens to be Seung ho’s former job. Her new boss is extremely strict and demanding, causing her new colleagues to wonder how long she will last especially after Seungho’s ghosts keep hovering around the office. Just then, Seungo spooks them. Ji won, unaware of what’s going on, is determined to prove herself; however, Seung ho is even more determined to drive her out in a week.

Meanwhile, Baek Nam ku visits his mourning wife and his former cop partner.  It looks like he is helping his partner track down a criminal.

Seungho finally tells Ki Joo he has found out a way to turn Han Bom normal again. However, the journal he gives him happens to be one he had written years ago about the female child ghost who had stayed longer than three days in the land of the living. If the girl was alive, she would have been able to see ghosts just like Han Bom after taking pictures with the camera but she was dead.

Meanwhile, Han Bom goes out on a stroll that night but gets attacked by ghosts. She desperately calls Ki Joo and he appears soon after, getting rid of the fire ghost that nearly kills her. She grows angry saying the safe zone doesn’t work. Ki Joo tells her he thought she was okay seeing ghosts but Han Bom replies she had only said that to comfort him. Ki Joo tells her she should have stayed home but Han Bom cries that she sees her grandmother everywhere. She cries that she can’t handle this anymore and that he should stop her from seeing ghosts. Ki Joo who is innerly disappointed promises her just that.

Before now, Ki Joo had visited the elevator ghost who had attacked him  before and promised to solve all his problems so he can enter the netherworld. Ki joo did this because he wanted to bring the ghost to take a picture with Han Bom, hoping that by this method, she would stop seeing ghosts. He had learned this from an ancient journal. But the consequences to opening the gate of the dead is severe. Still, Ki Joo decides to take that risk.

He brings Han Bom to the studio and she stares at the pictures of all his male ancestors placed on the wall. Ki Joo tells them they all died at thirty five causing Han Bom to be confused. She gets scared when she sees the elevator ghost and sits down with him to take a picture. However, she’s still bothered over something and continuously asks Ki Joo about why he didn’t extend his rent but Ki joo simply replies that he is traveling somewhere, unable to tell her the truth that he’s dying.

After taking the picture, Ki Joo opens the gate of the dead for the elevator ghost and he disappears. Then he escorts Han Bom out apologizing for putting her in such a situation. But to her surprise, he tells her that he would like for them to live their own lives now because he would be packing out soon. Han Bom isn’t happy to hear this. That night, Ki Joo collapses.

However, the next day Han Bom is happy when she doesn’t see any ghosts, thinking that she has finally been cured. But she gets momentarily sad when she thinks of Ki Joo. However, she quickly shakes off the feeling and goes about her day.

A young man who works at a delivery agency celebrates with his colleague after finally graduating from university. He goes about his day and leaves to deliver some goods but a ghost appears inside his truck causing him to fall asleep but when he wakes, he’s too late. The bus swerves and causes a terrible accident.

Han Bom who happens to be at the scene, notices the tragic occurrence and tries to help but nearly everyone involved in the accident is dead. Just then, the victims’ ghosts start to appear one by one. Han Bom is shocked beyond belief that she can still see them. They all rush towards her when they notice she can see them but from nowhere Ki Joo appears holding her as he covers her eyes with his hands.

The safe zone in the form of a circle suddenly appears around them. We are taken to a scene where Ki Joo protected the female child ghost by drawing a circle around the both of them. No doubt, Han Bom was the female child ghost.
